- On Saturday during Memorial Day weekend, the Illinois Railway Museum's Frisco 1630 operated its first revenue train for the first time in nine years after a long FRA inspection and rebuild. Here you'll see the Russian Decapod being prepared for the day's activities before heading up the museum's coach train throughout the afternoon.

A great video of a massive piece of machinery that we all took for granted. Good to see it back.
Beautiful loco engine shunting..
Awesome!!!!! Wish there were more steam engines back on mainline rails
Me too but all that matters is that they are being kept alive and running.
I performed service on this engine in early 2000's and of all the machines I have worked on or been apart of in my life, this will always remain my favorite.
+Randy Newell Must of been a ton of fun working on the 1630. Thank you for the feedback and have a good day.
Awesome footage! Once again you have impressed me!
Very nice decayed Ibelieve eagle pitcher co had one also Bill
I meant decapod
Holy steam revival! This steam engine is back up and running!
I love 1630 the bell and whistle, they are just as I remember. Hope they can restore my favourite steam loco, Tuskegee 101.
Unlikely she neeeds basikly everything rebuilt
@@Wawa111_Mainline Oh I know that, sadly. Pretty much any shortline engine from down here in the South is incredibly worn out.
@@jacobwoods8738 it ran year ago but after the Gettysburg incident it’s cost to keep it operation for its problems is a lot it’s a silky like buying a new loco
I would really like to see the Santa Fe 2903 run again even though the 1630 is one of my favorites too
It is a restoration candidate if something were to go wrong catastrophically with the 1630 and the Shay 5.
Awesome video! How did a Lackawanna coach end up in Illinois? That belongs in Pennsylvania (where I live).
They were one of the first cars up here in the early 1960s, my best guess is that they were donated
I think the bell got stuck when it was up by the shop lol This is my favorite loco as well, Prettiest by far. Big ol 1630 on the side. the road number plate on the front too is the coolest
Ethan Collier Thank you very much for the feedback and have a good day.
I know this would never happen but I want 1630 and 1522 to team up one day
Awesome!!! Now if they have a lot more money, they can restore some of their other steamers that operated at their museum at one time, invite visitor steam locomotives, and maybe if they had an even larger chunk of money, buy and restore Frisco #1522 to team up with #1630.
While your enthusiasm is noted, it would be best to keep it down to a realistic stand point without turning these comments into "pipe-dreams," which is not what this video is all about. I would strongly suggest watching our previous documentary, "Full Steam at the Illinois Railway Museum," for a better understanding on the type of work that was needed on the 1630, the type of work required on the other steam locomotives next in line and how to support the steam department as a whole in a realistic view. Thank you and have a good day.
Erich Diebold UP 428 should go next in line!!!!!!
brian falzon According to a good friend of ours who volunteers for the steam department, Shunting J. Neils Lumber Co. Shay #5 is the current restoration project and most likely to be returned to service next. And no, there's no return date at the moment.
MA-JES-TIC!!
I wont watch this the Illionoi RR museum makes me sick its allways a little engine running on a short museum track why they don, have a 4--6-4 that us real fans want to see I there is just to much polisatiion amoung steam fans an trolley fans what Is the reson I am an open mined fans to all interest in our grate hobbby
Because it's history duh. You don't see a Frisco Steam locomotive in just your average joe blow museum. What about a CNW SD40? You ever seen one of those on a museum tour train? UP is already working with 4014 so there's no room to complain about the IRM.
you pay for a full 4-6-4 restoration. and pay for the charter. and then you'll be happy with 1630
David Levine- are you THE superheater?
The Illinois Railway Museum runs small locomotives because it will look silly with a large locomotive pulling a small Coach train going a very short distance.
