  • 6/11/2017 - Part 2 of 3 - In the second installment of the IRM series, we spend some time with SLSF (Frisco) 2-10-0 #1630! No. 1630 was built in 1918 by Baldwin Locomotive Works and was originally intended to be sold to the Russian railroad, but stayed here in America due to finance problems on Russia's end. Converted to Standard Guage, it went to work for numerous American railroads before retiring to IRM in 1967.
On another interesting note, today (6/11/2017) was Railway Post Office Days at IRM and 1630 and her coach train ran demonstrations where the mail baggage car would drop off and pick up mailbags on the run! It was very neat!

1630 is a 2-10-0 Decapod build by Baldwin in 1918.

I was there on June 10th. It was my first time seeing 1630 run and that was probably her best performance yet! A fine tuned whistle and a good engineer who knows how to highball.

What? The museum has older trains. They have a horse car from 1859 and operating equipment as old as 1899.

This was one of the locomotives we built for the Russian Tsar for WW1 until the revolution left them stranded here in the states.

Do you Americans really need to play with bells all the time? It's annoying :/

Jeran Petersen-Clarke It's the law, the bell or whistle must be used when the train approaches a crossing.
