  • A quick guide video to operating the tapeless device SONY HVR-DR60 brought to you by TIPTAPES.
    SONY HVR-DR60 is HDD (Hard Disk Drive) Recorder with 60GB memory inside, so you don't need to add Compact Flash Memory like SONY HVR-MRC1 even though the essential operation is pretty much the same, the only difference is DR60 doesn't have individual clips delete menu option, so you have to delete last clips, all, or format clips. I've been using SONY HVR-DR60 for about 3 years and have no issues.
    Units can also be used for type Mini DV/VHS/Hi-8 or all type retro camcorder that has Firewire port.

    Nice rig. I was worried the horizon was going to be off a few degrees because of the increased weight to the operator’s side of the camera. Luckily it looks like you have a technique to countering that weight. How does it feel ergonomics wise?

    I was advised on a video forum that instead of using the outdated and expensive SONY HVR-MRC1, I could opt for a more cost-effective solution. The suggestion is to use an S-Video to HDMI converter along with devices like an Atomos Ninja or BMD Video Assist to record the incoming video stream. I am curious if anyone has experience with this setup or has any input on its effectiveness. Thank you.

      It's definitely going to get you a far poorer end result. These Sony HVR devices capture the same DV stream that would usually be recorded to the tape, so the quality is exactly what you'd get from a tape, and it remains digital the entire way through. Going S-Video -> HDMI means your digital signal gets converted to analog, then back to digital, which introduces quality loss.

    Hey, I'm about to go tapeless but was wondering if having the hvr-dr60 bypasses the auto shutoff during standby mode.

    Yo what kind of camera bag is that at the end? Also deciding between the MRC1 and DR60. Not sure which one to get. You have any experience using the MRC1? Thanks for making this video! Very helpful!

    • @tiptapes
      @tiptapes  Před 4 měsíci +1

      This was local made camera bag. Yea i had experience using MRC1,but tbh DR60 more simple and compact than MRC1,also they had 60gig on DR60 so,i would rather choose dr than mrc,thanks anyway

    Do you know if this recorder works with other firewire cameras, or is it only for Sony branded ones?

    • @tiptapes
      @tiptapes  Před měsícem

      As long as the cemara has Firewire port,this device can work properly for other brand such as Panasonic,canon or etc.

    • @Iglum
      @Iglum Před 10 měsíci +1

      You can always Scale the footage using ffmpeg? i just got 2 x HVR-DR60 but did not test them yet.

    • @tiptapes
      @tiptapes  Před 9 měsíci +2

      In DR-60 setting,make sure raw file type setting is in RAW DV,and you can adjust the rest of the quality in adobe premeire pro.

    • @marksy99
      @marksy99 Před 9 měsíci +1

      If you want crisp better to set it on AVI, therefore it will not crop(do weird things with the export aspectratio). Atleast from my experience.
