  • In this episode of the Video 8 Vlogs I explain how I built my tapeless retro camcorder setup using my android phone, an AV to HDMI converter, and HDMI capture card and a power bank. I tested my rig with a short, light session at wick retail park - this was my first session since before my surgery so didn't do much more than a couple of ollies.
    Parts used:
    AV to HDMI converter amzn.to/3dNbfv8
    HDMI capture card amzn.to/3dOuyEz
(alternative option USB-C to HDMI capture card) amzn.to/3PGGmFW
    USB-A to USB-C Adapter amzn.to/3AfASfI

Ive been down many routes to try and record tapeless but this is a amazing option! Thank you for putting this out

Glad I could help! I'd seen plenty of tapeless builds but none that record directly into a smartphone, when there's a will there's a way 😎👌

Rad build dude, and an awesome spot looks like there’s some nice banks there n you get horses running about behind ya!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Cheers bud, yeah it's a cool spot even if a bit crusty, will need to go back again! The horses were getting a bit agitated with the noise so didn't stay too long!

Nice video! I love the retro feel to it. That sloping skatespot looks cool 😎

Thanks dude! Yeah it's still a work in progress but once I get everything working the way I want it, it'll be good for some retro skate edits 😁 and yeah that spot is real nice but super crusty!

Cool video bro. Interesting how you set that up. I wonder why the colour washes out. But it looks nice and raw.

Cheers bud. Yeah it was a fun little project! I think it might be the analog converter, but yeah I'm beginning to warm up to it a bit. Gives it the old VHS look 😁

How do I prevent the camera from suddenly turning off in the middle of recording?

Honestly I'm not sure without knowing what model of camera you're using. Most tape camcorders shut off after 5 mins to save battery, there might be a setting to turn it off or adjust the time.
Google your model number and "auto shut off" or something like that, and hopefully someone will have an answer for you 😊

I have a Sony TRV67 and it doesn’t record sound any fixes?? Or would I have to get an external mic??

I don't know much about that model, but if it has a jack for an external mic it might be worth buying a cheap mic from Ebay to test it. You can get wired clip on mics pretty cheap, £2-3 last I checked. Good luck!
