Hey everyone!
Thank you for tuning in again! During our vlog today, we will be having our first ever experience at an Indian movie theater! Our travel philosophy is to fully engrain ourselves within the culture, and what better what to do that then check out the local cinemas! You can learn so much!
For this experience, we saw Premalu, a Malayalam rom com that is sweeping India. We watched this towards the beginning of our time traveling in a city called Thodpuzha. There were some mishaps in this however, hope you find them funny! A couple months later in Kozhikode, we ventured to another Malayalam film called Manjummel Boys. This is a story about a group of friends from Kerala travel to Tamil Nadu for a getaway, but one took a fatal trip down a cave...
Both films were a must watch! Unfortunately, Premalu did not have English subtitles so we were slightly confused. It's all part of the experience.
Lessons Learned:
- If you are in Kerala, you MUST check out a Mollywood film, you will be blown away
- Make sure the film is being offered in English Subtitles
-Try the Caramel Popcorn
- Movie intermissions should happen everywhere!

ഈ അനുഭവത്തിന്, ഇന്ത്യയെ ചുരുങ്ങുന്ന ഒരു മലയാളം റോം കോം ആയ പ്രേമാലു എന്ന സിനിമയെ ഞങ്ങൾ കണ്ടു. ഞങ്ങൾ ഞങ്ങളുടെ യാത്രയുടെ തുടക്കത്തിൽ തന്നെയായിരുന്നു ടോഡുപുഴ എന്ന സ്ഥലത്ത് ഇത് കണ്ടത്. ഇതിൽ ചില പിഴവുകൾ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു, നിങ്ങള്ക്ക് അവ രസകരമായി തോന്നും എന്നു കരുതുന്നു! ഏതാനും മാസങ്ങൾ കഴിഞ്ഞ്, കോഴിക്കോട് ഞങ്ങൾ മറ്റൊരു മലയാളം സിനിമയായ മഞ്ജുമ്മൽ ബോയ്സ് കാണാൻ പോയി. ഇത് തമിഴ്നാടിലേക്ക് ഒരു ഗേറ്റ് വേയ് ക്കായി കേരളയിൽ നിന്നുള്ള ഒരു കൂട്ടം സുഹൃത്തുക്കളുടെ കഥയാണ്, പക്ഷേ ഒരാൾ ഒരു ഗുഹയിൽ മാരകമായി യാത്ര ചെയ്തു...
ഇരുവരും കണ്ടിരിക്കേണ്ട ചിത്രങ്ങളായിരുന്നു! ദുരന്തവശാൽ, പ്രേമാലിന് ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് സബ്ടൈറ്റിൽസ് ഇല്ലാതിരുന്നുവെന്ന് ഞങ്ങൾക്ക് ചില ആശയക്കുഴപ്പങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ടാക്കി. എങ്കിലും ഇത് അനുഭവത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗമാണ്.

Premalu, Manjummel Boys, Aavesham, Bramayugam etc. Kalki ayit engane compare cheyunu man ee paranja low budget movies oke. Content oriented movies ishtalangie kanade irunude mass movies oke vereyum Kure industries purath vidunile. As far as content and story telling goes no one can compare to Mollywood other than Bengali and Marathi film industries.

Actually, the scene from movie "Guna" was shown during the beginning credits. But you guys most probably missed it since you were late. It was also mentioned later in the movie while deciding to visit there. Also, lyrics used roughly translates to "This is not mortal love, but a love more divine than that". Also most of us have grown listening to this song. So it didn't felt weird to us but kind of elevated our emotions. But I'm kind of amazed by how Keenan catches small nuances of our culture. And Mac was able to pronounce Manjummal boys correctly after tge guy said it. Great job guys!

Feel very proud of Malayalam films. You guys have watched one of the recent best films. As someone explained in detail the meaning of the song, placing it at that specific moment was the beauty amd magic by the Director! the song in the climax scene has lot more to it than a misplacement, As you guys said yes the song is from an old movie but it was a love song and in this movie the exact lyrics of the song is placed in such a way that it represents the friendship.

The first place Thodupuzha you went to see Premalu is my mother's place. I was there this May, I had visited that theatre but couldn't see film there as the times were wrong. The website times are wrong.

Only some theatres provide subtitles. In rest of yhe country movies are dubbed into various languages depending on the states. If its pan india the hindi dubbed version gets distributed more across the country

Wrto intervals, Hollywood producers do not allow exhibitors to have an interval.. Movie theatres hate it as they dont have a shot to sell popcorn et al.

I loved Premalu, culturally it doesn't depend too much on Kerala/Indian culture, and Naslen is just top notch with his acting, along with Mamtha Baiju and everyone else.
Manjummel Boys though, I thought they were a bunch of dumbasses, which threw me off from the experience, I couldn't watch it fully. Though I couldn't catch it in the theatres.

I'm always looking for some top places in the city, maybe we could go for a food tour together, I'd say 1) urban paratha which is a North Indian restaurant 2) ifthars shawarma which is similar to the og shawarma us kochi folks used to eat 5-8 years ago. 3) jaya bakery for kerala based savory baked and fried stuff. Jaya bakery is probably the best there is.
