    These two characters are two of the nicest guys in hi-end audio. They have such a wealth of experience and they're really not gear snobs like some reviewers. These guys were around when I was just a kid (back when dinosaurs ruled the earth) and they were really fun to listen to, but most of all, they really understand the joy of listening to the music itself and not just the joy of listening to the gear. These two guys listen to FAR more different kinds of music than just about any reviewers in the industry. Based on their recommendations, I have heard more music I never would have listened to on my own and many of those have become favorites that I still listen to.

    Loved this conversation, guys. It’s always a great pleasure to hear the wonderful duo of Steve and Herb talk shop, and the conversation always seems to go deeper than just surface level.
    It’s interesting how so many of us are such music lovers to such a huge degree, that we go out of our way and buy equipment to get closer to that music. Whether your main source is analog or digital, we’re so much more similar than different. We should celebrate that.
    Thanks again, Steve and Herb. Appreciate you guys a ton.

  • @jamesschneider3828
    @jamesschneider3828 Před měsícem +3

    Young people's music is not audiophile music. They grew up listening to compressed mp3's on systems that have no tone controls so most have never heard a great sounding system. They pick up a pair of $30 ear buds which make most music sound the same. I live in an area where good stereo shops are far and few between. Best buy has no listening rooms unless they are a Magnolia dealer and their listening rooms are intimidating for the newcomer. Where you live in the big city there is such a rich environment of stores to listen to different systems. Most music here in the middle of the country in the middle of Iowa a majority of music, especially younger people, is consumed in their cars, which nearly everybody has one because of the lack of public transportation.
    Just the other day my fairly new neighbors that live in the apartment below me were sitting outside listening to a cheap Bluetooth speaker so I invited them in to listen to my modest system and it blew them away. They has never listened to a true stereo with left and right speakers and a soundfield that was deeper and wider than what a all in one cheap system put out. Fun to watch their reaction to how good music can sound.

    Great stuff guys! I was fortunate enough to be an audio salesperson back in the late 80's. It allowed me to listen to a lot of different stuff. When you get that opportunity, you really hone in on what type of sound you like for yourself. Now I have a system that I really enjoy. It isn't super expensive, but I was able to piece it together to my taste. That is where the joy is for an audiophile. Now I just want to listen to all the music I can and just enjoy the artists and not worry about trying to make it sound any better. It already sounds great! Just give me more to listen to!

    Beyond Jay, most younger utubers who have gained clout seem to be reviewing in the headphone specific space. The reasons are obvious. Be it at the LA region cam jam or going to a place like the soon to be no more, Schiiter in Valencia, you see lots of younger sound nerds and audiophiles. The top utuber bridge between the 2 happens once in a while so perhaps more of that crossover is needed? I know it would help those like me, who are into both and/or who lean more into one area. Thanks for the vid!

    Here's to Steve and Herb for their integrity. Never do I feel like there is an agenda in equipment reviews or "audiophilic" observations in general. Contrast this with others who might say something to the effect of, "Don't waste your money paying the big bucks for a piece of gear in this category" and then turn around and push a piece of gear of the same type they are selling that's every bit as expensive and classify it is a "steal" or, perhaps something less overt, like a "sleeper." Both of you guys maintain genuine enthusiasm for this hobby and the industry after so much time in as hobbyists and professionals. You've earned your credibility. When Steve and Herb converse on Steve's channel, it's very popular. They review some very exclusive equipment, but Steve especially always makes a point of telling people that their systems are just great if they make us happy. Their banter(not blather) is very open and not trying to exclude people from the hobby. Many "audiophiles" tend to be very wealthy and very exclusive, and I appreciate this type of situation where they welcome newcomers that normally would be looked down upon. The only person your system has to make happy is YOU.
