    Hey Steve, love your vids. If you dig the ATC 50s, should give the Ocean Way HR 3.5's a try as a point of comparison to the ATCs. They're (also) studio-oriented but the low end is unbelievably tight and satisfying for any listener. I love ATCs, but I must say Ocean Way is something else entirely. Just my opinion! Thanks for the content!

    We all love and miss Charlie dearly, but the fact that he chose his own replacement shorty before his passing, and the surviving active members sanctioned that choice is a clear signal that the band should continue. I haven’t even mentioned the obvious as well: the public obviously want the Stones to continue, not only for the music, but the fact that there is a sense of security that in this fast-paced world of constant change, the steady drumbeat of the stones playing in some corner of the world, gives people a sense of security and solidarity that they may not admit to needing. 🎶❤️🎶

    I tried to replicate this using the 321C driver. Unfortunately, the eBay seller had no idea what they had and I ended up buying the JBL 2152H drivers. They refunded most of my money but now I have two coax drivers that can't be disassembled and have completely different specs than either the 321 or the 328. I guess I'll peter around with them and see what I can make. I would be curious to hear a set of Artbooks with upgraded crossovers. They really didn't put much money into the crossover components but I suppose the effect might be negligible.

  • @bobsmoot8454

    I think what you are describing as your response to “near field” listening may be the result of a couple of things. First, when you double the distance from the speaker its output drops 6dB, which is significant. So, you need to put more power into the speaker, which increase distortion because now the drivers have to physically move a lot further to achieve the same loudness. Secondly, by having the speakers so close and perhaps best if basically in the middle of the room, drastically decreases the arrival of reflective sound. When I had original Beveridge speakers (one way electrostatics) Roger Modjecki told me to make sure I had a minimum of 6 feet from the edge of cabinet to the “back” wall so the reflected sounds arrived late enough that my brain could differentiate between primary vs secondary sounds. I agree I’ve listened to my 755as about 3 feet away and at least 10 feet from any wall resulted in incredible sense of depth and specificity of the sound stage was nuts, plus the speaker didn’t move much and little real power was required, just have to understand that 8 watts was their max, and that’s really the peak limit for clarity, and should be a whole lot less.

    Hahaha! I Just *GOT* Thomas&Stereo's title for his review of the Musical Paradise MP701mk2 tube and capacitor rolling preamp: "It's like 5 preamps in one"😅 Actually in the review he expands that to 100+ preamps in one. So many ways to roll your own sound... Loving mine! But it is single-ended🤔 So, as a reference point I've added the DENAFRIPS Hestia12th balanced preamp between the Ares12th and Bryston amp. All balanced. Honestly, i could live with the above Clear, open, full bodied & snappy presentation..... But then theres the allure of what Anthony Michaelson (Musical Fidelity) called: "The ineffable Magic of valves"... Its good to have both options. Good idea Schït. Just got there by a different route (and avoided that awful name;-) 🎵🎶😁🎶🎵

    A few years ago I bought a Project RS2 T and coupled it with a high-quality DAC (AudioOptimum NOS-DAC). For 14 years I listened to ripped CDs on a high-quality solution, but I had long been gnawing at doubts as to whether this was the end of the line. I started with an Audiolab CDT 6000, which, with the right environment and high-quality cabling, was able to top my previous solution. For comparison, I had a Bluray player that sounded terrible under the same conditions. Then the opportunity arose for a used RS2 T and even cold out of the box, the differences were immense. A new power supply followed, a different puck, a few attempts with feet and fuses in the power supply. Although I have been doing this hobby for almost 50 years, I am always amazed at my system. Last year I had the opportunity to listen to much more expensive systems with record players and streaming in a private setting. For me, I'll stick with CD. With vinyl, the crackling bothers me and I have to turn the record over every 20 minutes. Streaming is OK, but to me it sounds much less organic than CD. You'd probably have to put in a lot more effort to get the sound close to the good old CD. Fascinating video, thank you Steve.

    • @SteveGuttenbergAudiophiliac
      @SteveGuttenbergAudiophiliac Před dnem

      You're making this more complicated than it actually is. Does the amplifier that you have, have a 4 ohm power rating? If it does that means it can supply the additional current to drive lower impedance speakers. Either the receiver in question can supply the additional current, or it cannot. Check with the manufacturer or look around on the Internet to see if it has that current capability. Thank you for watching

    To play CDs I have 2 options hooked up. First is the a cheap Phillips blu ray player that outputs digital to Yamaha receiver. Only downfall is the TV has to be on to make it work. Second option is to play my old Luxman cd player from early 90s (I believe) which is made by Teac I believe. Bought it because of the extended warranty of something like 5 years. It's still going. I was only getting a few years out of my Yamaha CD players at the time. It sounds fine to me.

    I have only recently been listening to a really nice system on a day when my friend wanted to change and test power cabled. The changes were not subtle. My jaw hit tue flor on one swap specifically. His system went from clear bright to muttled, slightly muted to clearer then the middle cable but with snappy bass. I was convinced he was changing more than the power cables. Same colume same everthing, huge differences. It really depends on the system. The difference is REAL.

    For heaven's sake, Guttenberg, not only are you costing me a fortune, but you are risking marital disharmony in my home! So, I had to get one of these transformers, and you are absolutely correct - the difference is amazing. I tried with both a Quintet Bronze and the SPU #1E cart that I also bought on your recommendation, and both sound absolutely superb. Given the incredible difference they make, I am surprised that these transformers have such a relatively low profile in the audiophile world. So, another point for the Audiophiliac - thank you! The only thing I haven't been able to make work for me, that I can hear, is high-end cables. I tried again when I was rewiring for the transformer, and I just can't hear any difference between some fairly pricey phono to amp cables and some mid-range ones. My poor hearing may just save my marriage!

Expensive as hell but it's got the same polished/lacquered machined block of aluminum floating frame/suspension system as the Delphi MKVII turntable (got one of those too), separate polished/lacquered control system/DAC (DAC can be bypassed if using an external unit), CD vibration damping/clamp system and a huge/heavy separate power supply. SDIF outputs plus balanced analog out puts. Not only beautiful sounding but also, as usual with Oracle Audio, visually absolutely stunning. There's nothing in the world like this piece of art work.
