Hi Kale, I've been watching your vids for about 8 months now. I made it out to the brand new Skudin Wave pool at American Dream Mall in NJ. Between the Surfskating tips (yes I bought a Filipe Toledo Smooth Star and had it sent to New Jersey) my neighbor and I have improved dramatically. The wave pool yesterday brought it all together when I hit three turns on my best ride of the day. Can't thank you enough for all the content! Keep cranking the tips and knowledge out and know that you've helped two middle aged New Jersey Kooks out a bunch. Cheers!
FYG, If you're reading this and are not Kale go get a surf skate NOW and swing over to the surfer's roadmap to snag the surf skate tutorial cuz it's life changing.

@@chelseapatton3684 been surfing on and off since I was in my 20’s but never had the right board or the time to really dig in to surfing as I wanted. With Covid I don’t commute any longer and I’m now in the water at least twice a week since the start of last summer. Hitting the Wave pool was more for training since it’s the same wave every time. Amazingly fun though. Great for beginners to build some consistency and confidence which I needed.

@@richscoza4362 that's awesome dude, I'm happy to hear you never lost the itch, and got the opportunity to come back to it later in life. I don't live anywhere near waves but I hope I do one day so I can try it out for real. I'll have to just stick with the wheels for now, but there's not a lot of comfortable ways to smash on concrete, I need more practice 😎

Practicing with a surfskate on flat ground helped me a little bit. But when I started practicing my surfskate in a bowl is when things really started clicking for me with speed generation, turns, and using my lower body more effectively. Really easy to film yourself skating in the bowl and it feels much more like surfing than flat ground skating.

I‘ve been skateboarding for over 10 Years now but can rarely go surf. I still find that the movements are pretty similar and skateboarding on ramps feels like surfing but on concrete and you have much more control. Same with snowboarding. I wish I had a wavepool or the ocean near by :(

Well done! I particularly need to work on my top turns and cutbacks.
My back knee compresses well on bottom turns but has a weak spot on sideways pressure on turns where the back knee gets sideways pressure during compression.
Like you mentioned, I am always in performance mode because I have a solid CZcams following and board sales around the world depend on the 73 year old performing properly 🤗
Anyway... I greatly appreciate the clear explanations.
I have been working on a video that explains how putting a rhythm (Flow) into my surfing helps smooth out the "old man stutters" that happen in dead spots on the wave.

Are you actively moving your rear foot when it comes to pumping down the line and then when setting up for a bottom turn do you shift your foot back as far as possible to achieve a tight turn back up the face. I’ve just noticed significant changes in terms of speed when I have my rear foot near the rear fin vs. when my foot is right on top of the two front fins.

I'm a big fan of wake surfing. Think about the amount of time you have on even 10 decent waves at your local. Then consider the potential to surf for hours behind a boat. You're going to be able to develop your coordination, especially gaining muscle memory and control of surfboards at generally high speeds. Then, when well coordinated at speed, wave pools are going to be your best friend to rapid progression. I didn't have access to either when I was first learning, but I did get a Carver skateboard, and created my own drills and system for practice. In one month on the Carver, I went from middle-intermediate to early advanced surfer. These tricks will take you to the next level. Great video Kale.
