    Notice that the narrator wasn't the one who said Meruem was balancing between his ant and human sides...Netero said that. I think the author is subtly expressing that what the narrator says is fact whereas what Netero thinks/says is simply an opinion, subjective and biased. As viewers, we can decide whether to agree or disagree with Netero's perception of Meruem, but we shouldn't take it as an objective truth. Seriously brilliant storytelling imo

    • @rexibhazoboa7097
      @rexibhazoboa7097 Před měsícem +3

      By fact, you mean the authors own opinions? Because the narrator has said some subjective stuff which would mean that was Togashi straight up putting in his opinion on the situation.

      @@rexibhazoboa7097 Yes! I mean how Togashi envisioned his own story and characters! The narrator has totally been subjective (e.g. when he said Knuckle made a mistake when vowing to Shoot that he would punch Youpi for him). What better way than to use an omnipresent narrator which allows Togashi to express how he wants the viewers to understand the scene/situation! Since it's his own creative work, I take Togashi's explanations/opinions (through the narration) as fact within his world of hxh if that makes sense.

    36:33 The line about "the wrath that was unleashed" that "was no stronger than a child throwing a fit" was about Meruem's feeling of anger/frustration expressed through his aura after being hit by Netero's Third Hand. It's just that it was still so threatening that it made Netero momentarily back away from him.
    I've seen other watchers misunderstand this. The subtitles weren't worded in the clearest way.

    • @angrashadow2958
      @angrashadow2958 Před 2 měsíci +3

      Iirc, the metaphor is comparing Meruem's wrath not to a child throwing a fit, but to a parent reacting to said fit, which is even more insulting to Netero because it compares him to a child whom Meruem is disciplining.
      Here are the original fan translations of the Manga for it:
      "The wrath unleased here... to the King, was nothing more than a tiny flame, the level a parent might feel when confronted by a petulant child..."

    • @Greyscale11
      @Greyscale11 Před 2 měsíci

      @@angrashadow2958 In what I believe is an official translation, the translation is:
      "The discharged wrath was like a toddler's stomped foot, a tiny flicker of force, compared to the king's full power. But it was enough to make Netero jump back more than twice his usual distance."
      The meaning remains the same. Insignificant to Meruem, but intimidating to Netero.

    The idea behind Pitou seeing Gon's reaction is that Gon was totally paying attention to the conversation between Pouf and Pitou. Pitou's plan was to explain what happened to Pouf and say the location of the King without making Gon's suspicious. The reason why you didn't notice that Killua said he plans on dying with Gon in the worst case scenario is because the Anime subtitles screwed it up and made it about Gon trading his life for Pitou's.
    The brilliant thing about Netero's proposition to Meruem at the end is that it's a callback to the final phase of the Hunter Exam, since that contest was all about forcing the opponent to admit defeat without killing them, which meant a clash of wills and resolves rather than just pure skill. Gon VS Genthru (The Bomber) was also the same.
    The problem with Meruem's newfound ideals is the inevitable contradiction between his desire for equality and his presence as the "King" in order to enforce that equality, by taking that role he is by necessity above all others, and unlike other leaders his power is not merely symbolic, but physical as well, which would make it impossible to rebel or fight back in case he ever changes his mind and decides to be a pure tyrant, he could never be equal to anyone else no matter how much he may want to be with such a clear advantage. As long as that inequality resides at the core of his ideal world, his approach could never create a utopia. Humanity can't negotiate with him because negotiation only works between two equal parties, anyone who sits in front of Meruem will always be at the risk of dying, their lives always depending on Meruem's mood. No matter how you slice it, Meruem has to die from a global perspective.

      Thankfully Ikalgo says something similar about Killua later but it's more impactful to hear Killua say it out of the blue. And I'm not 100% sure but I think those are good subs and the anime changed the line smh

    • @angrashadow2958
      @angrashadow2958 Před 2 měsíci +6

      @@b_delta9725 Nah the line is the same in the Anime, it's just vague enough that I can see why they mistranslated it, cause he says it without pronouns like "in the worst case it will be a double suicide", but the word he uses for it has the connotation of being between people bound by love, so it makes zero sense for it to be about Gon and Pitou.

    I think King would've eventually totally let go of his "force my way in" prospective, had he met many different people learn about different things, their losses their happiness and all kinds of different emotions, i think in the end he would've come to a point where he'd want his people and humans to coexist without violence, which would obviously be denied by the humans.

    I love the appreciation for Youpi it made me realize even more how unique his development is :
    Pitou changed bc she touched the King's aura when he thought he lost Komugi,
    Pouf will finally understand bc of a similar event so both Pitou and Pouf's changes only happened bc of the King
    but Youpi evolved bc of his own experiences and fights with humans (according to Knuckle's philosophy 'to understand eo we have to exchange blows') and is the only one who chose to spare humans regardless of his feelings and loyalty towards the King... in a way he is the one who can understand the King's journey the most even though he never felt directly his emotions towards Komugi

      Eh, subjective. Netero had an ultimatum, kill this OP dude and leave humanity the way it is right now, OR put his money on this OP dude who wants to create his perfect world through tyranny. And this is assuming the kings coin falls on humanity, if it falls on ant, its 100% over for humanity as we know it.

    • @rakansasas1111
      @rakansasas1111 Před měsícem +2

      Not really. Let's not forget that, even though Meruem might become a righteous ruler (and we are not sure about that), ants still feed and will feed on humans (and he does not plan to change that, he will "select" the humans that deserve to live or die, which is a pretty dangerous and crazy notion).
      Netero knows this, that's why he says that the King have not realized yet that their positions are incompatible, they're meant to fight to death whatever he says. Tough both are in "difficult positions" because there's some righteousness in both sides.

    After watching HxH I recommend Made in Abyss or Jujutsu Kaisen as the next show to watch. They both are "similar" to HxH in different ways:
    Jujutsu Kaisen is more of an action show with interesting themes, powers and characters much like HxH following arcs: Heaven's Arena, Yorknew City, Quimera Ants
    Made in Abyss is more of a wholesome adventure with kids much like HxH following arcs: Hunter's Exam, Greed Island, Quimera Ants.

The King represents the potential good of chimera ants, but Pouf represents the reason why Netero cannot gamble on trusting the ants to change, because Pouf is the most consistent of the main chimera...consistently a pain in everyone's a**, lol.

    I will never stop saying it
    I was SO MAD when Netero chose not to talk. He could have, if he wasnt selfish and arrogant.
    But of course, thats humanity.
    People can get tired looking for excuses such as the King not having a perfect morality.
    Fuck that, hes been alive a month and hes already had the conclusion power is to protect the weak who deserve it.
    You know who has way worse morals? the scumbags the hunters are working for.
    Thats why I find ironic that we are saying Netero cant even gamble the act of trying to talk? But we CAN gamble leaving the world in the hands of this awful people that will never change like the King did, and will keep millions dying of hunger every year (and thats just one of many examples) just to hold their nasty power.
    The king was very open to changing his mind and evolve his own sense of morality from talking, yet humanity chose to throw possible world peace to the trash. Just because the nasty power that tortures the world is the stablished norm.
    And what makes me mad is that its realistic.

      The king is basically a godlike being and even by the end of his fight with Netero, he was still talking about essentially exterminating most of humanity and keeping the rest in a small zone. If you were a human in the HXH world, you’d want Meruem dead. As a viewer from the outside you like him because you’re a little goober, but in reality we’d all be shitting our pants at the prospect of Meruem taking over the world.

    • @robertcampbell8070
      @robertcampbell8070 Před měsícem

      @@buildinasentry1046Exactly, and he's not even a benevolent godlike being. Like you said, he still wants to exterminate MOST of the human race instead of all, which isn't exactly a great improvement. If the argument is that his morality was shifting and he might have decided to coexist peacefully, that's a hell of a chance to take on "maybe." He could just as easily become even more ruthless. If you can kill him now, when the death toll is relatively low, you have to.
