This video shows you how he did it, as opposed to how to do it - no real details given.
So a few extra tips for those considering this swap-out that weren't in the video.
First, there's a long screw that's kind of at the base of the motor assembly near the lower left corner. It's sort of hidden so if you're trying to remove the old motor you might have missed this one.
There's also a silicone seal that holds the inducer motor to the back of the furnace, You'll be breaking this seal on removal, removal shouldn't go as easily as the video shows, but there will be some pulling needed to break the seal. Even though you've pulled all the screws (I believe there are four), it might still feel like it's screwed down somewhere due to this seal.
The old seal should be scraped out of the groove and then re-built using a high temp RTV silicone sealer/gasket maker. My local ACE hardware had some rated to 500 F for under $10, way lower than the DOW product Carrier recommends.
If you're replacing a stock inducer motor that's no longer made, like the HC23CE116 with the 340793-762 model now sold, note that if you still also have the stock pressure switches installed these will not mount to your new inducer motor. You can leave the old pressure sensors hanging and still use the furnace with the door panel opened, or rig it somehow. If you want a clean job, you'll have to fork over another $120 for pressure switches that are compatible with the new motor.
For 40k BTUH furnaces, the pressure switch is P/N HK06NB025. For all others, P/N HK06NB023. You'll want to make sure you can remove the bracket that is on this part (screwed on, not riveted). You can then mount the pressure switches to the bracket that came with your new inducer motor.
The small elbow / tube that needs to be disconnected at the front/left can easily tear on removal due to age. If this happens, the part number is 322057-301. If the long hose that goes around the inducer motor and clips to the upper right side needs replacing, that part number is 319873-714.
Hope this helps in your decision making and repair.
Hi Andrew
I have a furnace with three pressure switches. The part number you recommended only comes with two. Is there another part you can recommend that will fit the new assembly? Thanks!
@@hermanng2101 Do you have a Carrier or Bryant furnace? What model number? Are you trying to replace the inducer motor or the pressure switches? What’s broken? Sorry for the delay in response, I was out for the Holiday weekend.
@@andymytys
hi Andrew!
It is a carrier 58mvc. I need a new inducer since the bearing is squealing and about to go. My inducer currently has three pressure switches. Thanks in advance!
@@hermanng2101 I have an almost brand new inducer motor and pressure switch setup I can sell you for cheap. I bought it, installed it, and ran it for a month and then the exhaust from the furnace really started stinking as the secondary heat exchanger went. Once I saw the effort and cost of replacing that I just got a new furnace. These two components new were around $1400, as I’m sure you’re aware of.
@@andymytys
Hi Andrew! as long as it’s the right part, I’m game. How can I contact you directly?
Awesome video! Thank you so much. Anyone who is mechanically inclined can do this. Like some of the comments below, we had no heat and error 42. Mine was a little tricky because of how original installer plumbed the gas line and flow control valve. Two of the bolts could not be accessed straight on and it took some gymnastics to remove the old inducer. Just take lots of pictures so you know how to unhook and re-hook all the components correctly and take your time and do not over -tighten the bolts. 10/10 video :)
Excellent video. My inducer was loud so I found new one online and just installed it. Took less than 15 minutes after watching this video. Thank you for the reference video!
Thanks for taking the time to share these videos.
Nice job...keep them videos rolling. 95 here in AZ today. Calls already stacking up
Thank you so much for showing the installation process. I really appreciate you sir. :)
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Good stuff HeatGuy
Great swap out. Damn expensive inducer motors. Good you swapped it while warranty still valid. Smart man
Cory Desormeaux $900 motor and you have to reuse the rubber plug and feet. Got to love Carrier.
Thank you so much for this video. Bought my first house, lived here for a year when I noticed what sounded like a bad fan bearing. Ignored it for a few months. Then two weeks ago got a code 42 when I came home from work. No heat. Followed your video carefully and it works great. Mine is not as loud as yours in the vid, and much quieter than the old one. Paid $600 for the inducer assembly, heat repair guys wanted $1000 + labor. Ridiculous.
Thank you very much. I'm not exactly wealthy right now and this really helped me. Once things get a little better I'll send some donations/business your way. Again, thank you.
Rage,
Where did you bought the inducer assembly?
thanks
If you don't mind me asking, where did you purchase the inducer motor? $600 is the lowest price point. Looking online, prices vary from ~$750 to ~$1400.
Replaced one on 355MV060080 manufacture recommend replacing pressure switch’s.with Hk06nb023 kit.this unit was a 2004 unit thanks for the video.
Nice work. I like using hand tools instead of an impact.
Great video. I wanted to suggest a light from walmart, stanley lithium magnetic base. I love it.
Great video, switched out a used on today due to 800 back orders from carrier…went perfectly smooth thanks to your video
Very nice video! Can you more pressure switches.
Awesome. Thanks
The 90%+ gas furnaces are not suitable to be installed in spaces where they are subjected to freezong temperature because at freezing temperature the condensate water will turn into ice. Then these ice will cause damage to the inducer motors.
Wow, never changed VS inducer before. Advancing products now a days.. Good Vid,Joe
Mi Guy. What an excellent video.
My furnace inducer fan broke again. This is the second furnace.
The first time we replaced a 6 year old furnace (Carrier at the time had a problem with a heat exchanger that rusted prematurely) and this time we are having the motor replaced for $700 + $600 code upgrades. Furnace is 12 years old. Wish I had one on hand and it was not February.
Hello, thank you so much for this video. It was very helpful. Do you know where I can get this inducer motor? Mine started making a crunching sound and it stopped running today. I am getting error code 42 which says inducer motor isn’t running. Winter just started and I definitely need heat in the house.
Great video dude. This is exactly what I have to do to my Carrier HVAC. Where to shop for inducer motor assembly? I see a very variable price range. Thank you.
Tha is for the video, that was very helpful.
My assembly was discontinued, the new one calls for a new pressure switch. Why wouldn't the old ones work?
The old pressure switch will work, it just won't mount onto the new motor due to the size difference in the casing. So you can either get longer hoses and rig something, keep your furnace panel door open (even worse rigging), or get new pressure switches that will mount onto your motor properly such that you can close the furnace door.
Good morning. Your video is perfect. I am from Toronto, Canada. Where can we get this vent kit?
Where can I get the plug that goes on the top right corner of the new unit?
First time I changed one of those out I forgot the 4 plastic screw spacers. Lol. Took me a while to figure it out.
I think we all have did that LOL
Don't you use silicone like the factory to seal it ?
I find leaks on the the secondary box area the screws leak. Can you help me with this?
changed mine out 3 years ago. with the same replacement motor. Now it the new one burned out. i got more out of the original assembly. Carrier is Full of Krap!!!
Great video I have the old style that you replaced, it just started making noise is this bad? do they eventually fail or just make noise. I have used silicone spray on the motor wheel and its quiet for a while.
They eventually seize up. Complete replacement or new furnace is a year away at most once you start hearing the high pitched noises.
It's not always the motor. The inducer blower wheel inside the plastic housing either cracks and wobbles or sits crooked when the bracket sags and rubs on the housing making a nasty grating sound.
That new model is LOUD! My old-style just blew, (13 year old furnace) wondering which model to replace with. Both would be used
F carrier. Going to Lennox. no more worries for 10 years this way
Just get a goodman They all have 10 year warranty's
@@MiHeatingGuy but my guy works with lennox, ergo wholesale $
I have similar furnace which I have to change out an inducer motor as well. Video is awesome and sure answers a lot of questions except one. The manual mentions priming the drain that runs from the burner box with 1 quart of water before start up.. so my question is do I need to do that?
I'm assuming the inducer motor has a internal P trap. Would that be correct?
No it does not have an internal P trap but I've never primed one just let it run May trip on pressure switch on time but just reset the furnace and it should be fine
Help please. I bought this replacement motor off Amazon but it didn't come with a wiring harness. Where can I get one?
Have an LP unit like this in a horizontal config with a real nasty odor. Thinking it must be a heat exchanger with fresh air in and exhausted out, how else could any odor getup in the ceiling where its mounted? Have you bumped into this problem before?
The heat exchangers plugged it's producing large amounts of carbon monoxide you really need to get the furnace inspected wish you luck thanks for watching
I have seen the installation manual and it states that you need to use low adhesion RTV. I did not see you do that. Was the existing sealant adequate for a tight fit? I obviously don't want a CO2 leak. Thanks for the video. Well done!
He didn't split the inducer housing, he replaced the entire assembly, so no sealant required.
What errors were you getting?? My furnace errors out in every stage of the furnace function. I get error 42. Then it works fine for a cycle then error 42 in a different stage. Stages - blower motor spool up, inducer spool up, igniter, gas, igniter off, then finally second stage heat. The error occurs in each one of these stage all at different times and never the same stage twice. lol. But I do notice the inducer is slight noisier lately. I just can't see paying $1000 for a new inducer when the furnace is 19 years old.
Great video, thanks for walking us through the process on this. I am shocked at how loud the new motor is. You say louder than the original but this new one sounds like a 747. Is that normal for everyone else or did I get a defective unit?
Normal
Wouldn't cha kbow it. 7 hard mn winter months and the new inducer died. Error 42. Is there anyway to limp this while I await a new unit?
I think I’ll keep my old one that new one sounds worse than I think I’ve mentioned to you before but I’ve literally changed every part of my UVB 60-120 in 11 years pretty good ehh?????
I don't build them I just fixed them Thanks for watching
I got a new one from Carrier this morning. It's super quiet, not like this vid. I think their quality control has improved
Anyone have luck ordering one of these? All backordered for months? Is a used one worth the risk? Mine is intermittently making a grinding noise....
i have had my inducer replaced twice and had a factory rep come outthere is a problem with the motor shaft needing oiled i recall or that something is on a bind also carrier has issues with the heat exchangers going bad i had inducer and heat exchanger repaired under warranty luckily only one heat exchanger needed replaced if the top of your furnace gets fairly hot not warm you probably need a new exchanger i will probably never buy carrier again i had one back in the 90s and original inducer motor squeled like a cat was in the basement after 4 years they reolaced it but compressor went out after 2 years and i had to pay labor and also when it gets hot both of my outside ac units groin when they turn on i never heard that from other units well like i said never will buy carrier again
Dear Michigan heating guy!, Very nice video, It would be very helpful. I have a carrier infinity 96 58MVP080 furnace. It is very noisy, high pitch sounds, likely due to worn-out bearings on the inducer motor. I have to replace a inducer motor, and new one will be arrived soon. Hut I have a question as below. Do I have to prime the condensate trap with water? like into the drain that runs from the burner box with 1 quart of water before start up? You answered that you did not. But could you please double check it for me? Thank you
No
I was in front of this particular model the other day. Was giving me code 42 , inducer error. Call for heat wasnt present with the nest tstat the customer installed himself about a year ago so i jumped r and w. Blower wheel starts pushing air but code 42 is still there and the inducer doesnt start at all, no current draw either. Had 120 v going to inducer but the dc volts seemed to drop from 7v dc to 4v on the control side of the inducer connector between the brown, yellow and orange wires. What got me was that it may be the board or the ecm mod for the inducer. Also forgot to mention i tried setting dip switch 6 to test mode and the inducer didnt run but the ignitor started glowing and i had 10.5 v dc measured at the inducer plug between the same brown, yellow and orange wires. You probably have seen more of these then i have, based on the information, what do you think is wrong, the board or inducer ecm module? Another thing i might mention is i had control voltage at all my auxilary switches, so i know power didnt stop short at any of those.
I also made i mistake in saying the dc voltage. It dropped from 7v to 4v to nothing
And last, if its possible, which im sure it is, could the nest tstat have messed up the ecm or control board as well? Had many instances where i found nests incompatable with certain systems, and this is coming straight from the manufacturer
Excellent video, it appears that the 340793-762 Inducer could also be fitted into a Carrier 58UVB080F114? Mine appears to have identical inner parts to the one in your video (later model). Do you know if that’s true? If so, I see the inducer on amazon but does that part number you provide in the video always include the wiring adapter/pigtail and the new mount? I can't tell from what the vendors advertise.
Yes this inducer assembly will work on your furnace. It does comes with the harness and I also think it comes with the pressure switch rack. There is link to Amazon for that motor in my video
Thanks so much for the confirmation I truly appreciate it. This will be my backup plan if a simple replacement of the inducer blower wheel (which was broken) and bearing (if vibration continues) doesn’t do the job. No sense putting in the older & more expensive stuff at that point. BTW I didn’t see the unit under the amazon link to your stuff. However, I did find one here: www.amazon.com/Carrier-340793-762-Inducer-Assembly/dp/B014RHTZN4/ref=sr_1_2?crid=1Z0CD9OKHDIV1&keywords=carrier+340793-762&qid=1580856643&sprefix=carrier+340793-762%2Caps%2C235&sr=8-2@@MiHeatingGuy
So I ended up replacing the squirrel cage alone and it worked fine for the past 9 months since I asked you these questions above. Unfortunately, tonight the motor itself has now died. So I am thinking I want to go this route rather than pay my heating company over 1K to fix it. However, I am still a bit worried if I order the kit (link above) and it doesn't include the wiring adaptor/pigtail... I'll be out $650, because I won't know how to wire it up at that point. Are you 100% confident the kit has the wiring adaptor?
@@jasonhenshaw3719 Did the Kit Have the "Wiring Adapter"??? Can you let me know? Thanks from Ric
I hope you answer this. What's the chances a guy could buy that adapter for the new motor. I have a new motor that did not come with the adapter and Carrier basically told me to stick it and I could not buy one without buying a whole new motor again, going through a dealer. So, out a bunch of money for something I cannot use. Winter is getting closer. Hopefully you can help. I think. I may have found one.
They usually only sell as a whole assembly
My inducer motor is ok, but I'm getting water leaking from it because the silicone around the perimeter of the inducer frame has come out in places. My HVAC guy says get a new inducer. Can I just coat the perimeter with new silicone from the outside? Is it practical to take the inducer apart to put new silicone between the two halves?
Put some silicone on it it's not gonna hurt it
Yes your HVAC guy should be willing to get his hands dirty for a few bucks and not recommend replacing entire assembly at $1000+ cost!
@@stefdriver I had a couple of warm days about a week ago so I did the silicone myself (all around the perimeter). Was able to reach the entire border without removing the inducer (using my finger mostly). It is now running fine and the silicone seems stable and solid.
he did show me how to fix mine, you can see steps, he lays parts on floor, I cant see anything or see the process or how to fix my inducer moter
Hello Mi Heating Guy. Great video very informative and very detailed.
I have a Carrier 58MVP060 and I am trying to replace the HC23CE116 inducer motor just as you have in your video. I have the new 340793-762 inducer, and I got to the point where I need to switch over the pressure sensors and realized I do not have the same pressure sensors. My pressure sensors appear to be much larger in diameter and are riveted to a dedicated bracket, therefore I cannot switch over the pressures sensors like you showed.
If it is an option, I would be willing to replace the pressure sensors so I can still use the new inducer motor. Right now my pressure sensors have a tag with the following detail "Tridelta BA6933 03561W/0142/D. 319893-401".
Can you recommend a set of pressure switches that would be a sufficient replacement for my current pressures switches, but yet have the ability to use bracket supplied with the 340793-762?
You need new pressure switches
@@MiHeatingGuy Great! Thank you, much appreciated!
Hello you beautiful human... I've been replacing these fkers for the past 8 years that i've been living in this house... i'm on my 4th motor and at around 2 years time, the motor will develop this LOUD HIGH PITCHED WHINE... and its driving me nuts bc (a) theres no stock anywhere and (b) its $1200 every 2 years...... Should i just buy a new furnace?
What year is the furnace? Certain furnaces carrier and Bryant carry a trade in credit for new furnace
