No need to disassemble the airbag cover - just remove the 10 mm bolt at each end (the larger screws) and pull the panel down a little to unseat the clips holding the panel in place. There are also a couple tabs at the front of this panel by the firewall holding the panel and airbag in place. After disconnecting the wire to the 12V power outlet there should be enough slack in the other wires so you don't need to disconnect the airbag. You'll be able to maneuver the airbag assembly enough to access the airbox cover and replace the filters. Be sure to engage the tabs on the airbox cover into the slots on the airbox (near the firewall) before reattaching the four screws securing the cover. This will hold the forward edge of the cover while you contort your body to get the four screws back in. It's pretty hard to see the two screws near the firewall without using a mirror. Be careful not to overtighten; the holes can strip if you overdo it. All that is needed is enough torque to snug the gasket and seal the airbox so it drains properly through the tube. The procedure for replacing these filters seems abnormally complicated, but it does get a little easier after doing it a couple times. The video here is quite good and shows you what you can expect. Removing the console cover trim makes it much easier to remove and replace the airbag cover; don't skip this step thinking it will save you time.

Great video 👏🏼❤ Tysm!! I purchased a 2011 535i 4 days ago. I took it to a bmw dealership to see if there was any codes that was wrong with the vehicle that my scanner couldn’t detect I also noticed the passenger side heating system blew cold air and took several minutes to be warm. BMW dealership has had it for two days and they are unable to locate the problem. They said I needed my air filter replaced could the air filter needing replaced be a factor in the passenger side blowing cold air?

Probably not. Has to do with the tempetature sensor or the compressor.

You don’t need to disconnect air bags. No need to unscrew two Two 20x screws that are😢 connected to the airbags. Just need to remove two T25x screws. The whole assembly come out.
