What a beautiful cabinet. ! Ashley is right - the base you built looks original 👍. Your woodworking skills are amazing ❤. You should consider doing more furniture building. .? Doug, you’re so multitalented. 🎉!!!
He’s an artist.
Agree!
What a joy to see a beautiful piece brought back to life.here in the UK they were traditionally used in lawyers offices. Well done Douglas.regards Michael uk care home resident
He needs a workshop first! 😊
I bought some of these , but it's made recently.
Very similar to yours . Not as sturdy
I found mine in the alley in my neighborhood! It was being used on its side as a coffee table before they got rid of it!!! I about had a heart attack when I found it. Wheeled it home in my kids wagon- very carefully!! Now it holds my favorite McCoy pottery and it is one of my favorite pieces of furniture.
Absolutely love McCoy - I have a few pieces, as well ❤
Doug, you give “from trash to treasure” new meaning. Absolutely beautiful!
Happy Thanksgiving!! 🦃🥧🍽️🥛😋 Hope you all have a blessed day today!!
My dad restored furniture and built furniture for people as a sideline job. You bring back such fond memories for me of him working with wood. He would be impressed with your furniture restoration skills. He did not impress easily. The cabinet turned out beautifully.
Wow
Someone seeing only the finished reveal would never know that the base wasn't original.
Doug
You did a fantastic job.
I bet it's going to be nice when you're able to spend a lot more time being creative in your workshop.
My goodness the bookcase is just wonderful! Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
That turned out amazing! Doesn't surprise me though, it seems everything you touch turns to gold LOL
There needs to be a love button instead of a like one! This roadside find turned out beautiful! How fortunate that y’all went on that family bike ride ❤
Magnificent! That is so beautiful. I also love it when the Lord brings to us pieces that we have always had our hearts set on. How often would you find a barristers bookcase laying on the side of the road? My guess would be never.
WOW!!! What a gorgeous Barrister’s bookcase!!! You are SO TALENTED!!! What a treasure!!! 🥰❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏🇨🇦
I love it Doug. You can't tell the base didn't come with the rest
I can't get over the fact that someone just threw that on their curb! What a find! I've ALWAYS wanted a cabinet like that also. The base looks perfect with it. Great job!
My husband is a furniture maker 40+ years. Leave the new finish for awhile it will cure and the shine will drop back a bit. Then decide if it needs any more work. 😁
What a gorgeous find! I only see those in Antique stores and they are very expensive. I’m so happy you saved the cabinet and it looks great in your house. The base you replaced looks original, great job 👏
Another amazing restoration. If the prior owners (that kicked it to the curb) saw this they would be kicking themselves! You nailed it!
Wow that looks fantastic! You should definitely think about making custom furniture in the future, you are a natural craftsman.
Hello beautiful family.
Great job! If you had not reminded us of the missing base, had built it and finished it "off camera", most would have never guessed that it was not the original base. Sticking with the old patina was the right call.
The bookcase turned out beautiful. I have to say I had my doubts in the beginning you did a great job. I like your attention to detail in all the things you do.
Doug, Ashley is a Saint if she knew you were glueing on her rug. I would be so upset with you. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I'm glad you are the one that found it, you restored it perfectly!
It's such a beautiful barrister case! Great job!
That's definitely a treasure. Heres a little historical knowledge about the Barrister Bookcase..
Once standard equipment in the old law offices of England, the original barristers bookcases were designed to be sturdy and portable. They had two purposes - to be able to hold a large number of weighty books and be moved from place to place without damage occurring to their contents.
So glad you saved this piece. You did an awesome job, Doug!
Creating a Simple Base has nothing to do with an easy project. Anything elaborate would distract from the simplistic beauty of the bookcase. Doug's restraint made all the difference! The end-result is perfection.
That’s my favorite piece I’ve seen you work on yet. I absolutely love that, and the base looks great!
Thank you
What a beautiful piece of furniture you have!!! Doug once again you’ve done a great job!
I couldn't believe how well you were able to save that piece, especially the top! Well done :)
I worked for a lady here in NZ , who lived in the USA , she was an antique dealer, she had this beautiful piece, I always admired it! And all her furniture she brought back ❤
That was a humongous blessing for you to receive that!!! As usual you did another wonderful job in restoring the bookshelf!!! You never cease to amaze me, Doug and Ashley.
I have one of those barrister bookcases. It was my great grandfathers. Very useful piece in your home. Mine's from the 1860s. Yours is probably the same age
Highly recommended for a Happy family videos..Happy Thanksgiving to your family..
Looks amazing. Your house is so beautiful. You guys are so talented .
Looks great. Sometimes I use waxpaper under clamps or boards when gluing projects to prevent any glue squeeze-out from accidently gluing a clamping device to the project.
Amazing find! The case base turned out awesome! You two rock
Oh Oh Oh I just love that you are placing it in the dining room. It just belongs there. How nice it is going to be for you? A jewel.
Wow!!! Gorgeous piece of furniture.
The details definitely matter! Beautiful work, Doug. You are a craftsman, extraordinaire.
Honestly Doug? You're good at what you're doing. Great work.
Doug, I want to thank you for saving that old piece of history that some craftsman similar to yourself built with skill and the love of carpentry. Fine job, my friend.
I’m surprised Ashley let you pour glue over her rug. 😊
Hi Ashley and Doug, your bookcase is beautiful. Ashley you are right the base look’s original to the bookcase. So talented Doug. I can’t believe someone put the bookcase on the roadside. I’m glad you found it
WOW....after you found that lawyer's book shelf, i couldnt wait til you had a chance to work on it. I knew you would have it looking so good and you didn't disappoint (as usual). It looks outstanding! The base you made is like it was original to the bookshelf. Perfect addition to your dining room. Amazing find. Proof that one man's trash is another man's treasure. Love it!❤
Beautiful cabinet and you did a fantastic job recreating the base!! I love trash to treasure! It's so rewarding to find stuff along side of the road and redo it to it's glorry!
Gorgeous piece of furniture.
You are so fortunate that you found that and rescued it. The base looks original.
Good job. I love antique salvage and restoration.
That is amazing. If I remember, you brought that home on your bike 🚴.
Looks amazing, the colour of that wood turned out beautifully and I think the top looks great no need to buff away the nice shine!
Another project done right by Doug and Ashley ❤❤
Really well done Doug!!
Happy Thanksgiving! Great job! One man's trash, it another man's treasure!😊
Looks beautiful! You did a great job! Found one of these at the Salvation Army resale store in our town, bought all the the sections for about 75.00. They were in rough shape. Refinished it and had to buy replacement cross closures for raising the glass fronts of the cabinets. It looked beautiful when we were finished and gave it to our youngest daughter and husband for a Christmas present. I think it was originally produced by a company named Globe Wernecke.
Doug you have done a superb job with your cabinet, it was meant to be in your home for sure.
This looks so good!! I'd love to find one like it, especially for free!
Cabinet looks great! I remember one of those in my doctors office. That’s where he kept his jars with cotton and the tongue depressors things like that. I always thought it was such a cool piece of furniture. That was back in the 50s. You are a real master woodworker!
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family! 💛🌻🧡🦃
That bookshelf restore came out just beautiful.
Bravo. Standing ovation.
Thank you, thank you, haha
Gorgeous piece of cabinetry. Fits in your
home perfectly. Happy Thanksgiving to your family.
Love it!!! Doug, you do very fine craftsmanship!!!
You did a fantastic job. I would leave some of the “imperfections “ as it shows it is an antique.
Great video!
It’s wonderful you found those. Or maybe they found you.🌺
Man that looks good. Another amazing job.
Looks amazing. Will you be using it as a hutch for Dish storage? Nice ceramic bowls, plates and glasses?
Thanks! No, we'll put some old antique books and random treasures in there. The only dishes and glasses we own are what we use on a daily basis.
I've seen Barristers bookcases with ornate bases and actually prefer ones like yours, simple yet elegant.
Great job
Thank you, we wanted something we didn't have to clean under so we decided to just make a solid base and it came out nice!
Perfectly done. Your wife is correct, you can’t tell it’s not original. I love it.
Great restoration job!
You did a great job Doug!
Its a gorgeous piece of furniture.
Happy Thanksgiving to you, Ashley and the kids😊

Happy Thanksgiving🦃🙂
Sawdust on his nose? That’s man glitter. 😂 ❤ He is an amazing craftsman. I so enjoy watching you two awesome people and your adorable also talented kiddos.
Turned out great. I was so jealous when you found that I want one just like it
“Does the neighbor have to mow every time we are doing this”? Had me blow coffee out my nose!! lol
haha, it happens almost everytime!!
Perfect color match
Wow!!! You should be so proud of yourself. I love it.❤
Spectacular job Doug. I wouldn’t worry about changing the top. It’s so beautiful.
The subject matter was great and so was the repair. just saying
Ashley is right, the base looks like it was that way from start
You did such a great job fixing this up and adding a matching base. It looks beautiful! What an amazing find!
Super job on that barristers bookcase!
It's a WOWza. Happy Thanksgiving
Wow ,as always,😁👍❤
Your restoration of this beautiful piece of antique furniture makes me so happy! The base perfectly matches and looks totally like it was there from the beginning. 💕💕💕
Doug's like, "i'm gonna build one." as if its no biggie
Looks great, Happy Thanksgiving to your family from ours.
Happy Thanksgiving
from the base doug built, i'd bet he could've built a replica of the bookshelf with much higher quality construction than the original
Great save Mr Doug! Looks great!!
The base is a perfect match on color and fit. Couldn't tell it isn't an original piece if I didn't watch you build it. Perfect location in the dining room too. Awesome job Doug and Ashley.
That base is awesome job
Base looks awesome. I agree with Ashley in that you cannot tell that you made it. Nice work.
Beautiful piece! You really have to go to a high end retailer to find anything or comparable quality. They really don’t make things like they used to. I have a beautiful intricately carved antique dresser I got last year at a large auction that I can’t wait to restore. I’m waiting till I have a house though so I don’t get the finish dusty in storage. Also have an old pine kitchen/dinning table with folding sides. It has small metal casters on the bottom. The wood is very dry. I tested some coconut oil on a leg and a underside a couple years ago and it really made the wood look great.
You have a really kind and tolerant wife that doesn't mind you doing work...including glue...in the Living Room rug....wow...way to go Ashley...lol
What a beautiful job.
Beautiful
Looks fantastic! One would never know that the base wasn't part of the original piece. Great job saving it and restoring it!!
One man’s trash is another man’s treasure
Great fine ! Beautiful job. 👍😀
Beautiful ! Do you ever sleep with all you do? What a good restore.
The cabinet looks great! I know it's for books, but it could be used for dishes.
Doug, you did an excellent job on that base. You do realize that you now have the skills to recreate the entire bookcase so you can make as many as you want for your house!
