I agree. Steph Curry didn't ruin the game. The 3 point shooting game took off courtesy of Mike D'Antoni. He and others did the math. Shooting 3's in quantity vs. 2 point shots of you make them, is better analytically. Why blame Steph? If a player is to blame more so I would say James Harden. Yet again, his game in Houston was the result of Mike D'Antonio.

I can see where Rob and Chris are coming from.
The issue is that coaches and players now put so much stock in the three that it has soured the game to a certain extent.
Curry is an amazing shooter that has seemed to create a culture of being a copycat where other players try to emulate hitting so many threes. And you have the analytics guys that look at that and try to build teams around the three point shot.
The heavy use of the three point shot has eliminated strategy so much so where bigger players don't take advantage of their size but prefer to shoot threes.
Sometimes it's ugly and unappealing at times in my opinion but you have to marvel at how good Steph is.

It’s silly to blame Steph for using the skills he has to play at a high level, and has been immensely successful at, for a bunch of people trying to copycat what he’s doing when they see his success and failing at it. The dude averages around 43% of his three point shots which is immensely above the league average and clearly he’s scored and succeeded as a result of that. And that shooting ability is why he’s still in the game and at a high level. Imagine expecting a guy who is 6”2 and 185 pounds forcing them selves to drive the rim, which they’re unlikely to succeed doing simply considering physical reality, rather than exploiting the skill they have that has led to their long term success because they’re worried about being copied and the television product being less exciting. It’s obviously realistic that a player will tell themself that succeeding doesn’t matter, and driving themself out of the league, because they must ensure that people play a certain way that people find more exciting.
Steph has a far higher ability shooting the 3 than others and if front offices and coaches can’t recognize the reality that they won’t succeed if they force their players who aren’t good 3 shooters to constantly throw up 3 shots. It’s copy cats and analytics people who insist on those things even if they aren’t succeeding at it because the data tells them that it’s the thing to do. That isn’t Steph’s fault. He’s small in stature and wouldn’t be a top player driving the basket but when he takes long range shots and mid range shots he makes a ton - that’s just common sense. And he has Klay who’s just about as good at the 3 as he is. And if you have two of the leagues best 3 shooters in your team obviously you’ll use that and win games. If the rest of the league decides to throw up 3 shots even if they don’t have good shooters like that then it’s on them. It’s not a players job to not use the best of their talents that will allow their success because it might result in people who aren’t as good at it copying what they’re doing.

IMO, if the NBA wants to make the 3 point harder, they should make the rim smaller and smaller, until they get their desired result. A basket ball is around 9.5" in diameter, the Rim is 18". Make the rim 17.5 inches, then 17... etc.
