- Hosts Lee Smith and Jane Johnston do their best to push the most durable piece of equipment to failure, by any means necessary.
Special thanks to Wanstalls for giving us a good deal on the ammo to review the buckler with.
There is a certain irony in the fact that, out of the entire range of Cold Steel synthetics, their best product is a shield.
I really wish their synthetic weapons were better quality, they're the most affordable things out there but even then there's no point in buying any of their products.
Their synthetic swords are good.
Even though a bit light and perhaps slightly oversized I really enjoy using their synthetic parry/ring dagger.
What? I could normally just club someone to death with my coldsteel practice sword!
There is a certain irony in the fact that, out of the entire range of Cold Steel weapons, their best product is a plastic shield.
We tried carbine and it stopped it...
Then we tried 9mm and it stopped it...
Then we tried shotguns and it stopped it...
Then we put explosives and it survived....
Then we brought a lvl 99 Warlock to cast meteor storm on it and it actually reflected part of the damage and the Warlock died...
Then we summoned motherfucking Cthulu and he gave it a couple of strikes, he then said "NOPE!" and went crawling back into the ocean for another 1000years.....
Then we brought yo mama to sit on it and it held together, this is when we realized it was indestructible
MAN, talk about abusive testing
melchaios hmm... it did ok...
Playing Witcher 3 while drunk, saw that the Bloody Baron has a buckler at his belt at all times, remembered that I don't have a buckler, watched this video, now I might need to buy a buckler. Just in case sword fighting comes back in style. It's important to be prepared.
So, they are made out of Nokia phones.
So basically cold steel could make body pieces that are bullet proof.
Saw a review where someone claimed it would stop bullets and assumed they were joking, but now I see what they were talking about, lol
Transparent polycarbonates are used to make bullet-proof "glass", so the resistance of these bucklers to gunfire shouldn't be very surprising.
Bucklers, no matter steel or synthetic, seem to mix well with any weapon material. Our club has at least a dozen steel bucklers and they do not damage the synthetic swords that we use at all.
This review went above and beyond
Thank you for the extreme testing!
cheers for FANTASTIC review, u REALLY put it through its passes, u showed off its durability and I am impressed
Thanks for the review! Based on this I have just bought one!
Tough stuff, I'd be a buyer if they did a Cold Steel codpiece. :)
So I guess that the Cold Steel's new motto of "Anytime, Anywhere" was about these.
Ok, you guys sold me on getting a cold steel buckler, probably the only cold steel product i will ever surive, and the only one that lives up to their boasting of indestructable.
One thing I'd like to see is an Indian version with the knobs and straps for handle. Still like it as is though.
I added a few modifications to mine. A few tread plate pieces and wrapped it in chain
first skallagrim shoots swords, now you shoot bucklets. what's next? :D
I guess the next logical progression would probably be to rig up some air cannon to shoot a buckler at a sword. ;)
Midknight The Knight cutting guns with swords?
Maybe you could collaborate with Jörg Sprave to create a slingshot that launches a sword at a buckler or vice versa :D
Shoot a pommel at a buckler
When I heard about this video I thought they were kidding, this is awesome.
I have one just cause I did decor with it & some of the CS plastic training swords. I’m gonna do the same with the new CS targe
Yes the Captain America SHIELD.
Thanks for the video guys, I bought one and I like it but I'm thinking of adding texture to the handle, possibly thin it out a lil, its pretty thick! And Loud its really loud when it gets hit, its basically a speaker in your hand pointing back at you..:)
Your taste in Firearms gets my approval.
Id like to know your opinions on the waister, Hand and a Half, and gladius trainers
so the boss on the buckler is The Boss!
It would appear.
If you take off the handle, you can wear it like a kettle helm
Holy cow, you've just given a new definition to durable. Bloody explosion survivor.
Does that bucker have "not for use with metal weapons" (or something to that effect) embossed on the inside of it?
yes, but as u can see thats more just a warning label is all.
Cold Steel's best product.
My only complaint is the handle shape. It has oval shaped cross section with the longer diameter being perpendicular to the flat of the buckler so it forces you to hold it like a basket hilt rather than an iron age round shield. This is not a big problem but it does make half shielding feel a little awkward
I'm freakin sold
Cold Steel should make a battle ready steel buckler.
Do other shield get beat up as well? It kinda seems to me that if they somehow had only this polymer molding technology, but no additional technology like ARs, then people in the past probably would have used this stuff to make shields
it is for treining staff. like plastic (or rubber ) knives and swords. but from some attack can defend. read description of cold steel about it.
There's one thing I'd like to change with the buckler, and that's making the handle more flag so that you can hold something else in the same hand more comfortably. Like the classic sixth play of Liegniczer's buckler where you grab your own blade and then snatch the opponent's buckler would be much easier with a flat grip, or just holding a dagger in the buckler hand in the Sikh fashion.
I don't practice sword and buckler but does weight have any effect on it's handling compared to a steel buckler?
Capten These guys weigh 2 lbs, so they may be a little lighter. Not by much though, we have both and they're comparable.
They should have made this shield out of vibranium.
It STOPPED A FREAKING 7.62? Bro, that thing is ready for war
"People who don't like these bucklers have a skill issue" fantastic lmao
@1:47 , I love the VZ58!
Blue lock tight should help with the bolts. No more loose bolts! That's what I do anyhoo...
¿Donde los venden?
Are these stronger than 14G steel?
They should make the whole thing as the domw
Are you sure about the material? It says polypropylene, not polycarbonate on their website. The former is a much harder plastic. (I was surprised polycarbonate could withstand so much, so I went to check)
Hmm, different websites state different materials. Odd. I'll take a look into it
Do you get any profit for your reviews? Not refering to this specific, but you seem to never have a bad sord to say about any product. Nice seeing this buckler get blasted though. But I would still like you to comment on stuff like the handle, how do you find the grip, couse thats its weekness I think..
Cold Steel 🛡's are "BOSS"
If it was larger in width would it have been better??
They make one. It's called the Targe. ;-)
Are they heavy compared to metal bucklers? You sold me on it!
These are basically the same weight compared to metal ones the same size that I've handled.
Thanks! one more question. Would you find it dificult to bolt on a thinner flat handle?
Theoretically, yes. It's held together by nuts and bolts, so providing you can take those out and drill same sized holes on a new handle, it should fit. However that being said, we've never tried to take one apart like that so we can't guarantee that there isn't some other system in place to hold it together. Even when half of it was blown off it was still strong enough for sparring so maybe disassembly would be difficult.
If you do try though, please let us know how it went!
funny enough one of the only historical weight bucklers on the market, epscially with a closer in handle design that isnt over 100$
coolest people ever...please be my friend
Like 80 on Amazon in Canada god damn
That's not cheap aha
how much do you want to bet it was Skallagrim's idea to shoot them?
Mr. Macabre Nope, we like to shoot things too ;)
you forgot to cut it with sharps
I've tried destroying some of these a couple years ago with sharps out of curiosity. Stopped my longsword and viking sword, barely stopped my messer, and was annihilated by my cold steel norse hawk. On top of that the rim couldn't handle any kind of blade and the shields just split there (A strong enough hit from a bowie knife could split them). I didn't try with my claymore but judging from what the other things did it wouldn't stop a claymore. Kind of wish I had filmed it.
A knightly vz58
Usually like your stuff pretty well but you really need to go back and recheck you methodology and possibly your eyes on this video. I have some of the cold steel practice swords and the material is freakin tough. I also have AK's, AR's, winchesters....ect and have shot them threw and against various thickness steel plates. The rifles (7.62x39) will shoot threw any part of this and more than likely the handle bit too. I will also almost George Forman guarantee that the 9mm will smoke threw it as well.
You should really have used some kind of backing (piece of paper) changed each time to identify any pass threws. It can be hards to identify the exit holes in some targets ie. self healing plastic targets .
The single projectile rounds should have been marked to tell them apart and the pellets (yeh this bit is just real picky) should have been done last.
The two best things from cold steel that aren’t shit are the buckler and the Indian War Club
Kung Lao Hat Shield
Wouldn't a steel one be better though?
They said in the video that one of the good things about having the synthetic buckler is that it won't wear the blades it's clashing with as much while still being durable enough. A well made metal buckler would probably be more durable, but would damage the blades it comes in contact with more.
@adamputt But would you want that though? Damaging the blades it comes into contact with…the enemy’s blades?
@@chadam917 I would think damaging the enemy's blade would be a good thing.
@@genev193 if you're using it for practice swings and what not, having your blades go dull quicker isn't ideal
So... if someone brings a gun to a swordfight...
Dark souls shield
The cold steel video they threw it into a watermelon aha
Have you tried shooting a nokia phone?
oh... you could've donate them ;_;
lol nevermind ubdestructible
Look good? Do they look good enough to wear them as a hat?
let's go in the nature, let's shoot a buckler.. USA USA
Anyone get the new soldiers targe?
Wow why don't they make body armor out of this shit?
