And gotta say, it ain't just LA. I live in eastern Washington state, and in this town there are a lot of said-same weirdos. Either wacked out on meth, or nutso, or both, and not getting the help they need. And hardly a police force to speak of since (presumably due to budget and $ issues) a lot of police were let go a few years back. They sometimes have to *leave* a call to tend to *another* one. That's how few officers we have. Anyway, I think it's an all over the US thing...from what I've seen and heard. It's a blight either way.

Awesome Adam! I was having SO MANY flashbacks watching this video. I remember Lion Country Safari & Wild Rivers. I spent my childhood going to Wild Rivers, & I was a camper in the late 80's at the summer day camp called Camp Frasier. I was also a employee in my later teens at the camp. The concrete at the end of the video is what was a outdoor amphitheater, later used to cross a small stream. We would cross the stream to get to the top of Frasier Hill on the left, or on the right hill there was a cross on the hill where that old Lion was buried. Frasier's grave was a frequently visited spot by most campers daily. Straight through the ticket booths going straight was the storage for Wild Rivers & EVERYTHING left over from Lion Country Safari. In the early 90's there were still old ride vehicles including the boats from the old Zambezi River Boat Ride. I was allowed to take whatever I wanted from the LCS storage. I still have many signs & other items, & are hanging in my garage including a old LCS parking sign. I spent many days walking on the old Safari roads, & even spent time on the old Monkey Island. Camp Frasier also utilized the old Treetops Restaurant that used to serve the people who attended the Safari. I worked at Camp Frasier in my late teens from 1992-1994. Many mornings spent in those ticket booths directing campers parents to the camp entrance. The bonus was Camp Frasier got a hour in Wild Rivers everyday before the waterpark opened to the public. ANYONE WITH QUESTIONS FEEL FTEE TO ASK! This was a awesome time in my life, & this vlog helped those memories come flooding back!🦁

My father was a prison guard, so I grew up watching him psychoanalyze everyone he saw on the spot. While I'm honestly not as good at it as he is, I'm good enough at it to clearly say that man was clearly planning something, and clearly up to no good. He also looked like half the meth heads that lived in the town I went to HS in, so I wouldn't doubt that he was possibly screwed up by some sort of hard drugs.
I could tell by the tone of his voice when he first said that the road you were on was not the main road. It solidified my thoughts and opinions after he threw his little tantrum about the camera. He reacted in a way someone who's honestly up to no good would react to a camera being in their face.

“It is especially important to introduce geopolitical disorder into internal American activity, encouraging all kinds of separatism and ethnic, social and racial conflicts, actively supporting all dissident movements-extremist, racist, and sectarian groups, thus destabilizing internal political processes in the US. It would also make sense simultaneously to support isolationist tendencies in American politics.” -- Russian military strategist, Crowleyan occultists, chaos magician extraordinaire (and vocal Trump supporter) Aleksandr Dugin, from his 1997 book Foundations of Geopolitics (required reading at the General Staff Academy for every Russian military officer above the rank of colonel).

I know this is from awhile ago, but the big concrete and stream you saw at the end I remember when I went to camp James. We would walk that way to the stream and pass on a boat then walk up the hill to Frasier's tree. Which was the lion mentioned that had a lot of cubs. Also the thing with Bubbles the hippo was she escaped to a pond where she drowned in the water because she was tranquilized and ran into the water.

Back in the mid-seventies we were visiting LA and my uncle took us here in his pick-up. HE had a tonnue cover over the bed that we had to take off because they said the lions would shred it. While driving around the park a lion actually jumped into the bed of the truck and was eyeing us through the window, we were immediately surround by employees in zebra painted jeeps who chase the lion off. Somewhere, I think my mom has them, are some pictures we took of the lion inches away from us, just separated by the window glass.

I took a similar trek in 1994 to the Atlanta Lion Country Safari park (1972-1978) and I'll confess, it was creepy. I found wooden coops (some small mammals?) and lots of rusted chains graphed into the dirt. Lucky for me at the time, the park was still in its abandoned state. I saw a few snakes crawling around in their natural habitat as I explored the remains. Today, the park is home to a mega subdivision. I visited again in 2016, sad to learn that the giant welcoming tusks and tiki hut ticket booths were demolished about 15 years prior. The park had an Intamin Gyro Tower which was removed at the end of 1978 and sold to Aquarena Springs in TX. The pit of the ride was still unfilled when I visited in 1994. I recall the turn-style counter queue was damaged, but amazingly still on site at that time. Aside from a few kiddies and flat rides, this was the park's only major ride though it was the lions and beasts that people really came to experience. Thank you for posting this. I really enjoyed it. You might like my book "Hang on Tight! A Retrospective Look at the 2nd Generation of Amusement Rides (1950s-1980s)"

crazy guy was a homeless person who lives in the bushes. The company that bought Irvine Meadows which had the Ampitheater and old Lion country Safari was the Irvine Company a Land Developer. They were going to tear everything down and start building Right away. During tearing down, the 2008 Recession hit, and Home prices plummeted. They didn’t want to start building new homes as you spend millions and years to build, and they wouldn’t have survived it. The Irvine company hadn’t yet started tearing the Wild Rivers park yet, so they told the owner he could remain there on a one year lease. The Irvine company needed the rent money until the economy turned around. One year later, they extended one more year. By this time The water park deteriorated , and the owner couldn’t spend any money fixing or refurbishing as it would be torn down soon which would have been really stupid. He is an incredibly nice man and all of us season pass holders knew him. It ended ok for him a few years later he got the OK to build a world class Water park in Irvine at the Former El Toro. Marine base, which President Clinton closed down. The crazy guy was one of about 20 or 30 transients who camped in the Bushes. Do you remember when he said I know your face to Adam? A bunch of comments came out saying they must have internet in there. Well Adam is very well know to Orange County folks as he lived in Orange Ca about 20 or 30 minutes up the freeway from this . Even though Adam wasn’t born here we kinda adopted him as an honorary Orange Countian. If you mention Adam the Woo to many Orang County residences they’ll respoNd “I Love That Guy”. By the way Adam, I can’t even Believe that you didn’t encounter any rattlers while in that kind of area. We have so many rattlers that when I open my front door, I don’t step out until I look down to see if any
rattlers are hanging out. Just this week a guy just wearing a robe opened his front door to get his newspaper, stepped down and a rattler bit his foot, he had already started to bend down to get the paper, and was bit in the hand really quickly. If you surprise a rattler, they don’t have time to rattle to warn you. As an extra added feature, he couldn’t get back enough quickly and it bit him below the Knee! 3 Bites in less than 10 seconds from a Western diamond Back Ouch Now that’s a bad day!

Sorta reminds me of when I was exploring a old abandoned zoo in Austin, Tx from the 50's I think it was. Took a while to find it, but now I know where it is, it's easier to take return trips. I also had to watch out for homeless since the main barn was still there and from the distance I thought I saw homeless sleeping in it so I had to avoid it.

I remember Lion Country Safari... a very cool place to visit. I was but a wee lad when my parents took me there, perhaps 8 or 9 years old, but I still recall it. A great idea that I guess never made enough money to stay afloat.

Up on the hill where Lion Country Safari was painted there small white cross next to it on the top right, that is where Samson the lion is buried. He fathered 30+ lion cubs during his time at the park. you could see it from the 405 freeway.

What a looney tune. Kind of sad though. Looked homeless but he sure hasn't missed many meals.

The days of starving homeless are gone. Worked a homeless event where we handed out shirts and jackets. The lady who organized event told us to only bring XL &XXL sizes

We had a Lion Country Safari in Virginia but it’s Kings Dominion today. You use to be able to drive through in the seventies. It’s still there but you ride through in one of their vehicles. It’s part of Kings-dominion today..

Irvine Meadows was built around that time too. Lion Country Safari was built when Irvine was still unincorporated. That whole area was pretty desolate... there are a few vids on YT that show it. Theres NOTHING there in the early 1970s

Whoa...!!! That would have me a heart attach when that man came out of no where . I would have thought the same thing , that he was going to help at first . Lordy , be careful out there doing these things . I know this was a long time ago when this happened , but have you ever experienced that again after this vlog ? I sure hope not !! Anyway ...... That was interesting , I've never even heard of this place before . It's always ashame when they teardown something like that , but it sounded like it wasn't real safe far as driving the throw a bunch of wild animals . I hate when they teardown the water parks or the water slides . Those are always so much fun . Thanks for sharing Adam and again .....BE CARFUL OUT THERE !!!

@adamthewoo - if u type in Lion safari California there are old movies that people posted on CZcams of the original CA safari! I saw one of those big boulder rocks (with the little rocks in it) with the lions! I watched the one that said it was from 1971 and 1976. Very cool!
