- Found a killer deal on some brand new seats so it was the right time to get the seat mounts installed. I debated on a few options for how to mount them and I'm thrilled with the direction I went. I am so glad that I found this video. I have been wondering how to mount some new seats to my boat, and now, thanks to you I have found the way.
I'm giving this a thumbs up right away because I see all your crescent kayaks
Looks great brother!
Nicely Done Bro👍
Thanks man, loving these seat mounts. Only thing I've had to change was moving the rear seat more centered.
good enough vid man thanks i mostly just needed to know what parts were exactly what was needed. nice boat, I like the gas up to disperse weight to front, I'm too scared to keep my batt that close tho.
Yeah it really helped for weight distribution. I ended up switching to a lithium battery to save weight and it was so light you could put it anywhere in the boat.
I have these same mounts in one of my boats and I really like them 😊
I really like them! Very good quality
Thanks
These video will come in handy when I build my jon boat
Glad to hear it! CZcams was essential for coming up with ideas and build plans when figuring this out myself.
@@mvboutdoors I type in painting Jon boat white to match my vehicle and bam!! yours was at the top ..clicking on bell to b up to date on your video .. check out my vids too if u like lol
@@WeOutChea Sure thing I'll check it out!
Theese seem way easier nicer and swivel better then the ones I got definitely trying them for my next project
They've worked out great so far, nice and easy to pull seats if needed and swivel like butter. Make sure to grease the seat pins!
Thanks for your videos man. Very helpful 👌.... type of lube did you use for the seats?
Thanks man, I used Quicksilver Marine Grease amzn.to/3H73F7P
Great video. Love the Jon boat. Do you know if the 3/4" pin seat mount will accomodate a 5" x 5" seat? Thanks...
If its the lock n pin seat mount it should fit, I haven't seen different sizes on that.
Hi. I bought an OLD Jon Boat - from 1975. It is acrylic and has 2 bench seats. But the seats have no way to get under them, so if I put screws in to secure a seat, I cannot get under the seats to secure the screws. Can I safely cut out an area on the top of the seat? Or should I cut out an area, then put a board over the top of the seat? I bought a Adjustable Boat Seat Pedestal,Adjustable Height 11 ½-17 ½ Inches, Adjustable Pedestal For Boat Seat to attach to a swivel. Also - another question - where are the batteries for your electric motor? My batteries are set up to be all the way in the back, between the back seat and the back of the boat, then there are two flaps, covered with carpet, that lay down over the batteries. So, when I turn around to that area, my knees are up to my chin. I would love to cut the top of the back bench off, replace it with wood, cut a door flap on top and be able to get to that area under the seat and then be able to put my feet on the floor in that back area . Could I safely do that? thanks
What size hole saw?
you may want to invest in a tape measure and a square . I get to eyeballing thing I do it quite often good video
whats your thoughts on cutting into a bench for extra storage, its an old boat that i got from a friend and it spent most of its life outside so im assuming the foam inside isnt doing much help anyways
I gutted both of my bench lids for that exact reason. The foam was completely waterlogged and useless. I added foam back to benches in the form of foam flooring and other places around the boat to make up for it as best I could but I love the extra storage it provided. I've got a couple videos on it if you wanted to check it out:
- czcams.com/video/zCA-WTRBw9k/video.html
- czcams.com/video/_xkn-MpW200/video.html
The foam most of them use is water logged and useless, I pulled out 300lbs of bay water logged that was literally eating the boat. I wanted to keep some emergency floatation, I used the owens corning formular 250, does not absorb water literally at all, it will not take chemicals like gas and battery acid so you may want to bag it if its near that but I literally put it in a bucket for a bit and pulled it up and no water trapped in it, dried in a day. supposedly a sheet of the 2" thick is like 300lbs of emergency floatation.
Got to be aware that the foam is used in the calculations for how much weight the boat can legally carry. Might be an issue if your boat sinks and you put in an insurance claim.
Is that marine grade carpet or homdepot? I'm looking to recarpet mine
It's "Automarine" from Menards, similar to outdoor carpet from home Depot.
These still working well for you? Wondered if not having the "post" in there would make a difference or are these made to be used both with how you installed and with a post as well?
These are "Lock N' Pin" bases, not the screw in bases usually used with the seat poles, so they are meant for this type of swivel base.
Did it throw off the balance of the boat offsetting the driver seat ? Also is the tiller hand in the outboard movable? I only have a trolling motor right now and don’t want to mount my seat on the wrong side if the handles can’t be switched
For a boat this size yes it affected the balance. I ended up moving it to the center position because it leaned too much for me.
Typically the handles are not moveable.
@@mvboutdoors okay thanks I’ll mount mine in the center also might make it a bit harder to drive but is what it is. Thank you for all your responses they are much appreciated !
@@joshuaswanson3068 Yeah you basically sit sideways to steer but in a chair it was plenty comfortable. You're welcome!
Just about ready to hit the water
How did you mount the plywood to the bench seat?? Thanks
Stainless screws
Great video, where did you buy the seats from ?
Thanks! I actually found them off Facebook Marketplace but they sell them on Amazon as well. amzn.to/3iHQGzw
What size did you drill the whole for the mount to sit in. The size of the large hole hole I listen several times and you never mentioned what size hole you drilled in for the mount to sit in.
I didn't keep track of it, it was about 2 sizes down from the original hole size
Niiice ..
Can you please tell me the size and sku number of those mounts and base

What size hole saw on 2nd seat?
@@stephancordell697 I’d like to know too
so what size hole did you drill?
I'm also interested
one thing you should be careful love is when you are sitting in your pedestal seat up high and you get waves from the side your center of gravity has been risen and you have a very narrow boat which means it can get quite Rocky back and forth
Very true, I ended up moving the mount to the center of the bench for better stability.
What kind of rivet gun is that?
They were purchased locally but here are links to similar ones:

Have you been out in the boat yet bubba?
Yeah man, some of the newer videos have footage. Fun little boat!
First of all I hate you with a passion!...you may not believe this but you have almost built to the letter the boat I have been designing on paper for almost a month now (even the color)...If I sent you the drawings you would think I stole them from you. The problem I am having right now is anyone with a Jon Boat for sale, thinks they are made out of gold and wants to sell it for what a new one would cost...it's crazy. Anyway, I hope you enjoy your boat and I hope to see you on the water one day with my matching boat!
Haha! Great minds and all that! -- You're not joking though, I check the marketplace daily for new listings and it's nuts what people not only list things for but then people are buying them! Good luck on your search, best advice is if you see something you like, act swiftly.
In my area bare bones 12 foot jon boats are a dime a dozen....14 footers are gold and anything above 14 foot or anything on a trailer is more them bran new tracker grizzly package deal prices
