Exactly, I'm not from that generation either, but my parents always love to listen to these old tunes and I have grown to love them too. TPOK Jazz has to be one of the greatest bands of the 20th century.
I especially like from 7:05 to7:20 when one of the horn players is trying to get the attention of the conductor and trying to let him know that the pace of the guitars and the singing is off beat. He later flashes a smile and nods his head when the sound comes together. That's what i call "music concious".This is so good for good music lovers.
Okay everyone I just discovered that all this great sound is available here and I swear that if I don't control myself I will get fired. Anyway remember Tupac's quote about jewels being handed to an innocent child, well, I think that the people present in the studio didn't know that they were in the midst of a miracle or at least something that almost all of us would go to any length to attend. I bet that if anyone of you was there then you would be breaking it down like there was no kesho
i have fallen in love with song mouzi eventhough i do not understand what he is saying but the guy singing makes it so easy going and so charming that my ass wouid have been up dancing right infront of him to show him that he is good . great son thanks for posting . we cannot stop enjoying them.
ah oui, comme c,est beau de voir la belle de belle M,PONGO-LOVE apprecier la voix et le rythme regarder a partir de 4,30 ,de YA NTESA j,admire nos vieux de leur travail, respect
The biggest band that our fathers enjoyed Zambia is rocked oh nice music by the grand master Franco he reminds me of dad RIP DAD AND TP OK JAZZ BAND FALLEN STARS
for along time i thot the singer was Josky. till i saw this video. TPOK still rocks @dpisceslady...the Congolese (audience) aren't bored .this is African rhumba and it is enjoyable if you just sit back and listen. the much you can do is nod in appreciation
The Franco music will remain fresh I love the music....makiadi Franco.. ..dalienst Ntesa.. .rest in peace gentlemen goodbye luambo,,,goodbye Ntesa....but the music remain fresh...
@edithfotoh Ntesa Nzitani (Daniel) "Dalienst" was a one of greatest vocalists from Zaire. It is worth checking out his solo recordings and prior to that his work with the bands Vox Africa and Festival des Maquisards. Dalienst's solo record "Belalo" made Number Four on prestigious Rock critic Robert Christgau's Dean's List for 1990. Quite an honor given the fact that most American critics don't pay much attention to Congolese Rumba.
Yes, I undestand Lingala, have hundreds of Franco & Tabu Ley songs; have had time to do side-by-side comparisons. As I said, the TPOK band was phenomenal- look at Ntesa Dalienst, Simaro, Josky, Pepe Ndombe, Madilu; they were a study in great Music. Everytime I have made a similar comment about Franco, his fans go mad. Fact is, the guy was a spoiler in the band, I wish he stayed on the guitars and shut up as his boys did what they knew best. That is my considered opinion, and I stand by it. Best
Our son heart surgery at age 3 months old. He is now an exhuberant 5 year old, but the song holds this double meaning that brings tears to my eyes every time.
@computertechlive La chanson c'est NKOTELA, compositeur Rickos KINZUNGA, Orchestre LIPWA LIPWA. On youtube just enter ORCHESTRE LIPWA LIPWA NKOTELA. J' aime beacoup cette chanson. YOKA PE OSEPELA
Kowino, you have a very good point...Tabu Ley is great maybe better but franco had charisma, and most of all was very funny on stage. Once you like him like that...
Hi all TPOK fans. Anybody can tell me the song " ILUNGA YA CHERRY" if not mistaken was a big hit in ealry 80, what is the tittle? I'm badly looking for it. Thanx in advance.
Hi Rahndi You are right - there is an even hotter version of this on one of those "En Colere" CDs - but nevertheless this is probably the best Franco video clip I've seen. Ya Ntesa Dalienst - wonderful!
This is a 1982 television performance. I don't believe that it was a remote transmission from Un-Deux-Trois, Franco's entertainment complex. At 4:15 into the piece you see some very heavy television camera equipment. "Mouzi" must have directly preceded Franco's spotlight rendition of "Kinshasa Mboka Ya Makambo," which is why Franco does not appear in this song. I believe Simaro is the gentleman standing and conducting the orchestra.
You are right apart from a few people the audience is STUPID!! But hey the guys are good. This is not my generation, my dad plays them all the time and we dance ... gives me goose pimples
Very good Rhumba- however the sound is a live version, not studio quality. Very good effort by Ntessa Dalienst (RIP)and his team on this song, as always. Somebody must have forced this audience not to dance- It would be impossible to stay seated through such a great experience! K'Owino
The audience is made up of a bunch of over fed rich people who know nothing about life. They could afford the concert but they do not respect the talent of the artists.
Tabu Ley is much better, his music has style and variation, and very dancable, I must admit. Franco (RIP) was domineering in his music, rhythm was monotonous and songs too long. Howeever, whenever Franco was absent in a set, the TPOK music was superb, like "Mouzi" here. K'Owino
My dad loved this song,it reminds me of him,mr lano meleki,in chililbombwe Zambia, 1987
Mouzi 2023

It takes me back to 1980s in Lusaka, Zambia when we had proper live music from Zairean band called MATKASI BAND and Kwelekwe band
Even maman Mpongo Love was enjoying the song? Has anyone else noticed her?

words have meaning and weight
in this case its only a personal opinion or view etc
just remove the word ' considered ' and everything you said is ok
Franco was a great leader IMO and led these great musicians to higher heights.
du tres lourd! Rabbi Garcimore de Brazzaville!
Ya Ntesa Dalienst singing. Wonderful.
Mouzi - wah! Never thought I'd see a clip of this.
Congolese enjoy their rumba seated, particularly live performances
The best of the oldies
That would be a very good idea A Franco Day, I am sure many fans would love that

splendid i love this
Ok, No problem. Just stated my preference, that's all. As you may have guessed, I really like TPOK music, just wanted to provoke discussion! Good day
Franco did very BIG MISTAKE. This song was supposed to be around 1988 and recorded in very nice studio. Real very nice song.
souvenir
great
Hi Rahndi

No way! Dalienst is far too good looking!!

Interesting
am a luo, does tangawizi mean ginger like tangausi yawa
Yeah, its about a woman who seduced a man with a ginger laced tea and he cannot leave the house
the conducter has to hear things that those playing cant hear so that he may direct them in how high, low, fast, slow they should be playing.
Great music, Madilu RIP. I believe one of the backing guys was Zimbabwean,a Musekiwa Isaac. Is he in this video? Merci Rahndi & everyone.
