  • Sky News Darwin Bureau Chief Matt Cunningham says there has been a serious increase in levels of property crime in Alice Springs.
Data shows house break-ins across Alice Springs are up 260 per cent between October 2016 and October 2023.
With commercial break-ins up by about 160 per cent and property damage is up by almost 100 per cent.
However, Mr Cunningham said since the Albanese government reinstated Alcohol bans in early 2023, the number of alcohol-fueled hospital presentations, and the number of domestic violence of alcohol-related assaults have fallen quite significantly.
"They're still at levels that really represent a national crisis but they're lower than they were 12 months ago," Mr Cunningham told Sky News host Andrew Bolt.

Politicians and the judiciary are responsible. Do the crime. Do the time. Build bigger jails and youth detention centres. Move courts to the capital cities and use video links to detention centres. No need for court appearances by the criminals.albanese has a lot to answer for. His phoney behaviour has empowered people to think that they are above the law and that changing the constitution will fix everything. No Albanese. Addressing the issues at the coal face. Putting alcohol bans in communities to protect women and children. Boot camp for offenders etc.

3:00 min. What? the alcohol ban meant the drinkers move to Darwin, where the crime rate has exploded.

I'd ask where the fathers are, but perhaps I should be asking where the Tribal Elders are. Asking where a corrupt government bureaucrat is and why we haven't heard from her isn't very much help in a situation like this after all.

Exactly, funny how it’s only indigenous who act as if there’s any other problem aside from indigenous crime! You go into their homes and their parents are drunk all the time, collecting centrelink and letting their kids do whatever they want whenever they want. Terrible parents surprised when their kids turn out to be hoodlums and call for the government to fix it! Haha.

Gee so little progress, how could that be, Albo said he'd fix it, he did ban their alcohol, of course, that did mean that the burglars do their work sober, and more efficiently.

I lived in Alice in the 90s and 00s. Great outback town that had its occasional issues. Todd Mall was a thriving tourist hub and there were no roller shutters. Territorians voting Labor for 21 out of the last 24 years has had its consequences.

Take away crime from Alice Springs and a few suburbs in Western Sydney and Melbourne and Australia’s crime rate would be among the world’s lowest. I’m not embarrassed to say I’d be scared to visit Alice, let alone live there.

Coober Pedy is not far behind.... it looks more like a zombie apocalypse movie set set ever before. Homes boarded up, bars on windows. Abandoned homes broken into. Half the town up for sale. Why? Same as Alice
Problem is someone needs to foot the bill for the prosecution and court proceedings when an arrest is pursued. And who exactly is going to do that? It would be the government trying to reclaim costs from a situation itself has enabled, that has precipitated now for decades.

this is not due to the Voice. it is not what the no voters wanted. if you want to fix something, you try and fix it. but Labour is in power now, and not doing anything. nothing but crying over Albos. bruised ego instead of actually trying to find a solution, which should be bipartisan. Andrew Bolt doesn't need a reality check. he and many, many others clocked the racists, scammers, virtue signalers and oppressor/oppressed believers amongst the yes side long ago. love to hear if Noel Pearson has got any constructive input into this, but alas he probably agrees with you. a one trick pony.
