When they say "spiced" you are immediately thinking savory spice like chili, etc. Spice in this sense refers to nutmeg, cinnamon, etc. All spices but very different.

@@kikibigbangfan3540 They do use them. They invented "curry powder" which has all kinds of spices in it. Indians don't use curry powder--they blend freshly ground spices in a unique mixture for most dishes or they sometimes cheat with some standard "masalas" (spice mixtures) but what we know as "curry powder" isn't one of them. But what is a bit shocking is that, having invented the stuff in India, they brought it home.

The English language/slang in America can be confusing if one thinks literally all the time. But we commonly use the term “spicy” to refer to something that is hot (but technically it doesn’t necessarily have to be hot but we normally do link “spicy” to hot/heat). We do say the term “spiced” to refer to something that is flavored with spices that are not hot. So when Josh says something is “heavily spiced” it may have a strong flavor of cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla or other spices commonly found in desserts.

And the Beignet from Louisiana, my Grandma taught me when I was little to make these, poor man's style without the alcohol of course😅. It was a treat! Just get some canned biscuits, get out the dough, roll in to small balls & deep fry til they float, take out, drain on paper towels. While they are frying, put powdered sugar in a brown paper bag, after frying dough balls,& draining(get excess grease off) on paper towels. Then place them in the bag of powdered sugar hold bag close & shake until the fried dough balls are covered thoroughly with the powdered sugar & eat while still hot! So delicious & cheap! And Southern Iced tea(tea with ice cubes in it) is the best! Very sugary though. About 2cups sugar to a gallon of tea. Unhealthy but Yummy in moderation😊! Hope ya get to visit USA as my life's dream is to visit the UK! I enjoy your videos,ya make me giggle.

And everyone who does live in a mobile home is NOT trailer trash or poor & redneck like. TV gets that very wrong. Blessings to you & I really mean that in a nice way!❤

In the US, especially in the South, people are polite, friendly, and a bit sarcastic in their humor but not in a nasty way. Just a bantering way. Americans have a bad reputation for being rude and uncouth, but that’s the exception. We really are genuinely happy to interact with everyone and welcome them to our communities. It’s probably off putting to some the extent to which we are just so happy to see you and share our local foods, entertainment, etc. I grew up in South Louisiana where it’s not uncommon to get invited to someone’s home for a good meal and conversation. You should definitely plan on coming over and spending time in all the different parts of the country because we have many cultures to experience. And for the most part our food is amazing, especially in the South.

Beignet top is powdered confectioner's sugar (what is used to make cake frosting). Beignet is pronounced "ben-yayz" ("t" is not pronounced as is common with French words).
Flambé means "to cover with liquor & then set it on fire briefly." In background when he is feeding about to cameraman, they are preparing bananas foster in a nearby table so it is standard practice.
Classic banana split is 3 scoops of ice cream (vanilla, chocolate, & strawberry) in a long dish. On either side of ice cream scoops is banana sliced lengthwise & ice cream is covered with pineapple sauce, chocolate sauce, & strawberry sauce (1 sauce per scoop) & then it is topped with whipped cream, nuts, & maraschino cherries. (Different toppings & ice cream flavors can be chosen.)
Bread pudding is made with cinnamon & nutmeg spices & frequently bourbon-infused raisins. They are using word "spicy" to mean it has flavors from spices, not from chili flavoring that most people think of as spicy. Apparently American food has a lot more flavor than British food.

Since you like banana deserts, a banana split is a split banana with vanilla and strawberry and chocolate ice cream in the middle with glazed walnuts layered on top then whip cream and a cherry tops it all off. Amazing combination that tastes awesome. Then there is banana pudding in which you layer sliced bananas and vanilla wafers a couple times then pour a hot freshly prepared pudding (custard) over the bananas and the wafers , refrigerate for an hour and then you can enjoy.

    Bananas Foster...
Flambé means to light on fire 🔥
It is sooo good!!! No special treatment that I know of.
A Traditional Banana Split is usually served in a longish oval dish. A banana is placed on either side of the ice cream. One scoop each of strawberry, vanilla & chocolate. Topped with strawberry syrup over the Strawberry ice cream, Chocolate syrup over the chocolate & pineapple syrup over the Vanilla. The whole thing is then covered in whipped cream and sprinkled with peanuts while all 3 scoops get a maraschino cherry on top. (The fruit syrups have chunks of fruit in them.)
There are different kind of spicy.
    SPICY=peppers, chili powders. Think Tex-Mex.
SPICED=Cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, allspice, ginger & etc. Basically, what you would put in cookies & cakes.
Banana Pudding, just good now matter where you get it. I will admit that the south has it down though. I personally love a good Banana Cream Pie with Meringue on top!

The jovial service that Christan gave Josh & Ollie is called "We're so happy you're here." type of hospitality. It's more prevalent in the South, but you can find it almost anywhere. However there are indeed places that would rather hang themselves than to serve you, and you'll find those in the posh restaurants of like New York, L.A. and other uppity cities. But any regular city or small town even, the servers are usually very happy and glad you're there to enjoy their service and food. Does the Tipping Culture have something to do with it? Oh for sure, but really, it's just in America's nature to be like thus, especially if they know they're going to be filmed for segments like this.

Then there is a scoop of strawberry ice cream covered in strawberry sauce. Of course you have to have round it off with a scoop of chocolate ice cream covered in chocolate sauce or hot fudge. My aunt made the best banana pudding I've ever had once either Thanksgiving or Christmas years ago. She baked it with meringue on top and the bananas were warm. The basic banana pudding. You take three or four bananas that are VERY ripe, we're talking black spotted (that's actually how bananas are meant to be eaten, we just haven't developed the tasted for it like the South Americans have.) You buy a box of instant banana pudding mix, make it like the directions on the box as a pie filling. You can try to slice the very ripe bananas into chips, or you can mash them and mix then with the instant banana pudding/pie filling. The biscuits they're referring to are vanilla wafers. Vanilla wafers are a very simple cookie you buy in a box. You take a casserole dish and line the bottom and sides with vanilla wafers, then pour in the banana mixture. You can mix in whipped topping if you want to. Then you cover the pudding with sliced bananas (not so ripe) and vanilla wafers and then cover that with whipped topping. Some people like to put a maraschino cherry on top, which the grand kids usually fight over. :)
Baked banana pudding is made the same way, except you don't mix in whipped topping into the banana pudding mixture and you definitely mash in the very ripe bananas into the pudding mix. You can mix sweetened condensed milk into the pudding mix if you want to make it firmer. (Aunt Linda didn't do that, btw). You line the dish with vanilla wafers, pour the mixture on top, cover it with sliced bananas and vanilla wafers, pour your meringue (or marshmallows or marshmallow cream) on top, and bake it in the oven at 350F for a few minutes until the meringue or marshmallows get toasty brown.
Kids help make this stuff, anyone can do it, if you have the ingredients. Some make their pie filling from scratch, we ain't got time for that. :)

The beignets they are eating in Cafe du Monde in New Orleans right at the beginning are pronounced "ben-YAYS" and for the past at least 20 years they are nothing like they were originally. Now they make them and literally just dump a ton of powdered sugar on top (also called confectioner's sugar, I'm sure you can find it in the baking aisle of your supermarket). When I was a child they were more delicate, and were dusted all the way around with the powdered sugar, not buried under a heap of it. Bananas Foster was my Dad's signature dessert to make for dessert at dinner parties. Two New Orleans' after-dinner treats are both flambéd (flaming) - Bananas Foster and Café Brulot, which is a chicory coffee prepared with citrus & spices. Both are prepared tableside in a chafing dish, and the café brulot also has a special ladle for service which strains the spices & citrus peel and it is served in special tall slender footed cups. The restaurants' cups are heavier ceramic due to the use they get (you can find them online, they are frequently called café brulot diablot cups and have an image of a devil over flames which originated with the Faust opera "The Devil on Fire") but in your home you would serve it in ones made of fine china. If you've never had bread pudding, Lewis, you're missing a treat. It's divine.
