    The cafe food at Costco is actually high quality. It's a loss in terms of profitability, but it has become expected as part of the store, and so they keep it (with the prices frozen from decades ago). The full pizza is $10, and it's 6 of those slices. Also, the drink with the hotdog is bottomless, and so you get infinite refills.
    The food they sell at the cafe can largely be bought in the store too. So you can buy a hug pack of those hotdogs (their own brand) for cheap, and it will take care of your entire cookout.

    • @Nostripe361
      @Nostripe361 Před 7 měsíci +9

      It’s called a lead loss I believe. The idea is you sell some things so cheap you actually loss money on it but people will come for the value and buy other things that get you a profit. A lot of stores usually do this with groceries

      Yeah. They are relying on the reciprocity of goodwill and buying other things. It's a gentleman's agreement if you will. I love this sort of thing. It's kind of the same as buying items from a small business and getting a small gift doodad from them as a thank you in return. Commerce can be really fun if you allow it to be.

      You can get a whole cooked chicken for $5.00. Same deal, they lose on it but it's calculated.
      BTW, they used to use (maybe still do) Hebrew National. but because they were advertising that without permission, HN made them remove the adverts or pay to use them. It still tastes like the same dogs, (they actually be still using them but without the name)

    Honestly this video was less about Costco and more about Zach. They didn't really show you around Costco. It is a membership club that you pay a yearly fee. Most of the items are in bulk and you do get great prices for them. They have everything from TVs to Groceries. They have subcontractors there too that have an Optician, Home Contractors, Tires, & discounts on cars etc. I am single so it would seem this would not be ideal for me since it is in bulk, but I shop there weekly or every other week. I would watch an actual Costco video to see what it is all about. Walmart has their own version of this type of membership club called "Sam's Club", which I also belong.

    Pumpkin pie, or at least the filling, tends to have a consistency similar to a pudding, but much denser. The flavor tends to be bright. The crust is a usually a standard pie crust.
    Definitely recommend trying some if you have the opportunity. While homemade will almost always be better (as with most foods), those bought premade at the grocery store in autumn tend to still be pretty good. If you're ever in the USA during the fall, give it a try.

    * House goods such as coffee makers, blenders, electric tooth brushes, pots/pans.....

    * Prescription eyewear
    * Shampoos and the like
    * Pharmacy
    * Can you still get photos developed/printed there?

    I know you’re curious about the hotdogs at Costco. They are all beef hotdogs. They’re actually pretty good. They are not gourmet like you might find at some fancy restaurant that sells fancy hotdogs. But they are a heck of a lot better than what you typically get at a grocery store. They basically sell them at cost. When you consider the typical cup of pop cost them eight cents and the hotdog and bun Is really sold at cost. They actually do make a little bit of money but the idea is it’s at the end of the shopping and that is not the main point of coming to Costco. But it’s a nice way to relieve oneself as they walk through the entire warehouse. I do also like the fact that the average employee makes about 25 bucks an hour. A lot better than what your Sam’s Club would pay

Great tasting pizza for a reasonable price. It is a store that you go to for certain bulk items like toilet paper and other things that you want to stock up on. I do most of my regular shopping at a grocery store. Also, Costco is a good place to pick up something quick for dinner like the pizza or premade dinners that you just have to heat up. I shop at Costco about once a month and I am a household of 1. I buy their Unsalted Butter there, vitamins and household things like paper towels, toilet paper, and some cheeses. Food stuff I share with my cousin’s family and some stuff I share with my aunt. We all share in the costs and we all save money. You need to know what the prices are in the regular grocery stores so you know if you are saving money.
    My Mom loved their hotdogs and drink and always had to get one each time we went.
    Also, if you go to a Costco liquor store (which was a separate entrance building attached to the regular Costco building), the prices are insane. They only sell hard liquor but alcohol is incredibly cheap. It is the only time that I’ve seem Johnny Walker in a jug. A JUG! But not every Costco has a liquor store. They all do sell wines in the regular portions of the store.

      I've never seen the liquor through a different entrance. The ones I've been have it right out in the middle between the seasonal outdoor stuff an the food. Where I am now it's just beer/wine. We have ABC stores here so hard alcohol can only be sold through those. Sounds like state liquor laws likely drive how the store is set up and what they're allowed to sell.

They used to sell the hot dogs and pizza under a canopy outside. But some people just came for the cheap grub which is probably a loss leader. So now you have to go inside...and to do that you need an annual membership card. That perk is for members only. 😂

    I just went to Costco yesterday to have 4 new tires installed and while I was waiting, guess what I did? Got a hot dog, a slice of cheese pizza and a slice of pepperoni! LOL!! Exactly what Josh said! One thing I'll say, however, is the Costco pepperoni pizza is greasy--it has been in So Cal where I live as well as other Costcos I've been to (SF Bat area for example). You NEED to pat it down with a napkin before you eat it. Trust me haha. Everything at Costco is usually high quality, gasoline is usually the cheapest around but THE best part is no-questions-asked returns. You don't even need a receipt! That's why I buy almost everything there if I have the option.

    Great quote from a Costco CEO about the hot dog prices:
    “I came to (Jim Sinegal, the founder) once and I said, ‘Jim, we can’t sell this hot dog for a buck fifty. We are losing our rear ends.’ And he said, ‘If you raise the effing hot dog, I will kill you. Figure it out.’ That’s all I really needed. By the way, if you raised (the price) to $1.75, it would not be that big of a deal. People would still buy (it). But it’s the mindset that when you think of Costco, you think of the $1.50 hot dog (and soda).
    “What we figured out we could do is build our own hot dog-manufacturing plant (in Los Angeles) and make our own Kirkland Signature hot dogs. Now we are doing so much hot dog business that we’ve opened up another plant in Chicago.

    the multiple head technique is super simple its his head but filmed each separately, then stitched into a cohesive short film. The no head is a black mask that is also separately filmed. every frame is slowly stitched together to create that ghostly effect. it took weeks of painstaking work to get something worth showing.

    The story behind Costco's cheap food is that one day a higher up told the owner, "hey we should probably raise the cost of food" and the owner said something roughly along the lines of "If you raise the price, I will kill you", so the price stayed the same low price.

    Talking about the size of the pizza 🍕. Pizzas that sell by the slice 🍕 are much larger than normal pizza.
    A typical large pizza might max out at 16 inches (40 cm) but national chains like Dominos are normally 14 inches (35 cm).
    Pizza by the slice 🍕 is typically sourced from a whole pizza that is 18", 20", or even 24 inches! 5:06

    Costco is cheap at the food court because they wanted employees to have the best option for food without leaving for someone else's take out. And then they decided to open it up to all customers not just the employees. The cost is barely high enough to cover costs of supplies (that they get in whole sale mass quantities) staff pay and utilities (Negligable compared to refrigeration or the bakery). Two years ago it was a bit better than it is now but its still great deals.

    Costco loses money on their hotdogs and pizza, but they refuse to raise the price because he keeps the customer coming back. Also, the reason why it is so cheap, is that its basically a sampler of their own Kirkland Brand foods. Anything you buy at the cafe, you can purchase in bulk inside Costco. They sell a delicious rotisserie chicken for a loss on each sale, just to ensure you go back by the meat section and maybe buy even more stuff.

    "Why's it so cheap?" 9:24
    You remember the segment at the beginning when they walk in and suddenly they have a bunch of chips and stuff and one of them has a massive TV?
    They are not the only ones!
    The snack bar is at the back of the store. It's not an accident.
    To get to the snack bar, you must walk through the store. Big ticket items like TV's, sound equipment and so forth are crammed into the entry so that anyone coming into the store must go past them.
    The snack bar is what retail experts call a "loss leader". They sell their snacks at a loss to get customers in the door. They know that enough customers will buy other things just because they and the things are in the same building to make back the loss many times over. 9:24

    Disneyland has a range of food options. From fast food style burgers and fries, to nicer sit down restaurants like Ariel's Grotto or the Blue Bayou that's in the Pirates of the Carribean ride. It all tastes pretty good, but unfortunately, has become outragously expensive. These days a burger, fries and drink will cost between $15 - $20. That's up from about $8 - $9 for the same meal back in 2008. $15 was about what an entree at the nicer sit down restaurants cost back then. I imagine it's easily at least double that now. Back in the 70's and 80's everything at Disneyland/World used to be really affordable. I remember when I was a kid in the late 70's and Disneyland first introduced the option of the single unlimited ride pass (instead of using individual ride tickets), it only cost $9.99 for the pass and park admission. Now it's over $100.

    I think that I have been to that very Costco. They all have the same food, and the best food at the Costco eateria is the pepperoni pizza. Unfortunately, they switched over to Pepsi drinks about 10-15 years ago or so, and I hate Pepsi. But their pizza is really good. Also, their pumpkin pie is the best of all pumpkin pies, but it is available only around the holidays from early Nov - end of Dec. My wife insists on getting ONLY Costco pumpkin pie, and no one else's. The charo's at Disneyland are great! As for Costco, they sell a lot of food stuffs - prepackaged (in boxes) and fresh, and a lot of meat. Their steaks are always great. The also have a large pharmacy (both over-the 0vounter, and prescriptions), clothes, automotive related products (including tires), electronics (TVs, laptop computers, phones), some tools, booze, wine, and on and on! The stores are huge.
