You asked for it! What do you think? Personally when filming I never go this far and when I have been filming with the Mini 3 Pro the signal has been awesome! Mini 3 Pro Link click.dji.com/ALI_z80OMgXsq_hzL6dT8g?pm=link
Thank you đ signal has been great
Love this drone
I found it useful, but I have had issues under 500m if standing closed to high trees or tree lines I cant move away from. Even in open areas where a line of trees will kill the signal if not going higher. I normally work in the 5-15m height, when filming atletes on bikes, runners ans so on. Going 1500m away is not really something useful, maybe in the mountains.
Antalya
so I'm just curious about... why does the signal to the controller matter for quality of content if you are using a micro sd to record everything on the drone? I didn't think that recorded quality was dependent on signal strength in any way whatsoever. Just asking.
What's good about DJI drones, apart from the signal strength which some peoeple may say are questionable, is how safe they are even if you can't really see them. I've flown drones "dangerously" over the years but I've never lost one due to loss of control. Knowing how to use RTH has done wonders and has saved me thousands of dollars as these things can literally fly by themselves back to you. Who care how far they can fly if they can't come back, amirite?
I agree. I am a beginner and learning. Lost 2 so far but they were like 30 dollars each, just learning muscle memory.
They dont have to RTH since they dont go far anyway!
Yes, the RTH is solid. I will say though the first time I flew my Mini Pro 3 (my first drone ever) out of range my heart rate about doubled until it came back into range on its own.
Darren, such a great video!
I was so tense when I got the same warning, you have made it perfect clear that we must never try to fly beyond the safety limits.
Thanks a lot, for the advice.
By the way Antalya should give the golden key of the city and appoint you as the honorary ambassador đčđ·đŹđ§
I totally agree with you about cinematic video's yet it eould be nice to have a bit more range. My proximity to the Canadian rocky mountains makes you realize that distance is relative, big open spaces and distance becomes an issue. While range isn't always important the strength and stability of the signal is so it depends on where and what you like to document in your video.
A really helpful video mate, it is always good to see real world test to get actual figures not the lab results.
Keep up the good work đ
Glad you enjoyed it, thank you đ€
Thank you so much for giving such great explanation on what to look at and explaining what is happening. I am looking to purchase my first drone and you videos have been so much help to me. I am thinking that the DJI Mini 3 Pro is going to be the purchase I make.
From my experience flying it alongside my brother's Air 2S. My mini 3 performs exactly like my brothers 2S. So maybe mine doesn't have a range issue? I do know both drones struggle in urban areas if I'm flying below 100m height after 600m distance
Great video. I have done some impromptu range tests and got about 1,100 meters with mild obstructions and just over 2 km from a nice viewpoint in the mountains. I'm still impressed by how good this drone is for the price.
me too the drone and its features works perfectly and I got some great footage with it
Oooo been waiting for this !
haha indeed!
1700meters is when it gets bad for me as well. Is it a hardware problem or would it get fixed through firmware updates
I haven't had any range problems from day 1 luckily, been able to go without any signal drop outs over 2.5km in urban areas. I really only go further to film sailing events off shore. Thanks for the video it is a awesome drone. Also I like your solution to hold the props the good old elastic band! I bought one of those fancy prop holders and works great.
yes any work fine, I forgot mine so had to go retro lol
this is because of FCC mode of your RC. the CE RC models are really bad range especially in areas with lot of buildings and mountians and trees. you must hack it to FCC mode if you want to use it without problems.
Itâs really just varies as when I launched it from my house. If I went to the direction when the front of my home was facing I would get to 6250m before the connection drops. While if I go to the direction behind my home I can barely get over 1000m. Iâm curious if the mini 2 is the same way and if it is I wouldnât be complaining.
Great video again mate, Quick one i think you covered it in a old video but whats the mountain icon for? its same button as the auto focus. Cheers mate.
Great test and points and now the signal strength is more than adequate since the recent DJI updates. Look forward to that next cinematic footage đ
thank you Terry :-)
Would like to ask, is the signal get interference by tree and fog ? I found that tree and fog (especially morning) effect the signal quite bad.
Thanks for another great video đ. I have a Mavic 3 with a RC-N1 and the range & connection are brill. I added a Mini 3 Pro with an RC and the range sucks. I'm in an open rural location and it's struggling to stay connected. Do you know anyone who has tried using a RC-N1 with the Mini 3? Oh, and would the Mavic 3 have similar issues if it's paired with a RC?
Thanks for doing this ! Cannot wait to see more
More to come!
It depends on what one is filming going long distance whether it's boring or not. Personally I fly in an area where there all allot of small islands so I enjoy going long distance to capture it all all...but...to each their own. Farthest I've flown the Mini 3 is 5km over a river over these islands (FCC version) as here in Canada we are allowed with sub 250g drones and great reception. Full bars all the way. Cheers
Does this drone have FCC and EC mode? Did you use auto or manual select channels.
Apologies if I missed it in the video, but is part of this due to reduced radio power in the non-US models? I'm seeing videos here in the US with people easily reaching the 3 mile, (about 4,800 meters) distance, and I frequently go two miles (about 3200 meters) with few issues.
I'm curious as to when it went out of visual range?? Still visible after 1000 meters?? Couldn't imagine flying much further than that for what I do, so it looks good for my needs!!
I find I lose sight of it at around 1500 feet or so (500m) at around a couple hundred feet up. That's heading away and watching it the whole time. Usually can't see it until much closer coming back. It's pretty hard to spot if you don't know where to look.
Hey I was wondering if you could do a video on the Dji Mini 3 pro with the D-cinelike 10 bit mode at night?
I havenât seen anyone make this video on the 10bit update yet
I ran mine out to 6400m in normal mode at 117m height on the Canadian prairies with zero obstructions. This was with the small capacity battery. I could have possibly gone a bit farther but the low battery warning came on. Made it back with three minutes left of flying time. I was using the rc controller.
Oh cool thatâs good to know I just ordered one and plan to fly here around Alberta for my fishing videos!
this is because your drone is in the FCC mode and you are not use the crappy CE signal mode in Europe that's way worse than FCC signal used in Canada and US. specially with this new RC with screen and no external antenna that's make the signal strange even worse. what dji thinking when they designing this crapđ
Great vid! Excellent range - think to get further distance might need N1 controller or a controller with external antennaâŠ
curious what software you using for video editing?
hey I use Final Cut Pro to edit, however super interested in this new editor thats just launched from artlist tinyurl.com/5cywtvdc
Make no sense to fly so far
@@lucienhikingdroneflying2543 some people like myself enjoy pushing the limits of this tech. Amazing the transmission distance. I wire my.controller to accept any external antenna I choose and the addition of amps to see how much further the range can be increased. That's what I enjoy. Makes no shit to me what you think about that
awesome video Darren, just a question, i also got my all day freewell NDs the one you recommended, when flying with the NDs do you still put it in normal colour mode or the cine-lite mode?
Hey I use d-cine the most but you can use them with either
@@DMProductions Oh i see, thanks for letting us know, those NDs you recommended are actually impressive, better then i thought, you have good taste lol thanks again :)
I like seeing that you are rocking the Good Old Rubber Band !!!
Retro ! Lol
Idk about you guys but flying 2+ k's away with a remote control flying camera is pretty bloody amazing! Especially considering the size of the thing
It really is brilliant
So detailed and clean đ
Nice video and informative too. Enjoy the break.
is there a feature on the DJI mini 3 pro that lets you know whether or not you have enough battery to return to home if you are a great distance from the original homepoint. thank you.
Great Test Video. Thank You Darren.
Very welcome
Amazing video bro, and as you said itâs so boring to fly from A to B and taking the drone so far is not so comfortable. For me a range between 400-1000m is decent đ to get these cinematic shots đ„
Thank you bro I completely agree with you
Great video! It's true that going that far is in most cases useless but as a consumer I can also be disappointed since the capability of this drone is not as advertised from DJI.
Honestly speaking achiving this kind of performance tells us how far we have progressed as humans in the trchnology. Think its that tiny and still u get the video with that little remote ans drone. Scientifically speaking its very hard to maintain. So, i would say this drone can easily do what is advertised in the forests where there is no wifis and giant mobile sim towers.
DJI used to only advertise range capabilities etc. in the FCC (U.S.) system, which does allow for 8-10km range. Whereas the EU has way more stricter guidelines in their CE system, which only allows for around 2-3km range. You can notice that they started to advertise what the range is in FCC, CE etc. for the new Avata drone, because I guess people complained that the way they used to advertise this stuff wasn't quite fair and transparent.
What the problem is .. because of weak signal I canât take my mini 3 beyond a small hill when it descends out of direct line of signal . So maybe you donât need 10 miles but with this which is possible on the North American and Canadian drones FCC , where as we get a weaker signal in Europe . I was really disappointed and if I knew before buying my mini 3 , I may not have bothered . Since itâs no extra distance than the mini 2 .
Sometimes Iâd like to get footage of inaccessible places that the advertised distance is needed to get the drone to these isolated spots . So yes in my view we need a stronger signal .
I think DJI should make it clear in the advertising that if you fly your mini 3 or any other dji drones with supposed up to 10 miles or what ever , But fly in England and your very lucky to get 1500 m with a useable signal with out lag. Also where I live in on my estate Iâm lucky to get just 300 m with all the interference .
I donât understand what the different laws are as if you have a spotter you can legally fly as far as you want . Well thatâs how I understand it .
@@NavdeepSingh-bt2cc wow your very lucky , where are you flying as in England and everywhere apart from North America and Canada like me you will get around 1600 m in an environment with virtually no interference . Flying in a forest the signal will have to penetrate through trees , from my experience youâd get no where near the advertised range
What a great video. I think some drone pilots tend to be gear heads. What your video points out is why good quality work is the primary reason for having a droneâŠ
Hi, I read over a dozen comments but did not see where someone ask you where this video (and the nighttime hyperlapse) was taken, so where, what city & country?
Thank you for your informative content. Always looking forward to your new postsđ
I am lucky to be on FCC and with RC on my M3P I am getting 3-4km range (urban) with still strong signal but for safety reasons I remain in that range as once I pushed it 6km away and nearly did not get it back due to battery depleting very fast.
I did few range tests but not flying long distances unless taking photos/videos of locations with difficult access.
I find that by using RC-N1 controller I am getting 10-15% more range.
nice one FCC certainly has a stronger signal
I knew a guy that did 6kms on the extended battery and returned with near 50 percent battery life. Was done in sport mode and averaged 60kph
Good day, I just have a question. How do you know if your model is FCC or CE ? Thanks
â@@tonykuvthe drone is automatically switches to CE mod or FCC mode dipending on your location..when you are in US, CANADA your drone will be on FCC mode then if you are in a CE country like EU and other your drone gonna be in CE mode..but there's is a hack to lock your drone in FCC mode...
Great video by the way and lot of good advice cheers
Glad you enjoyed it thank you
Is this CE mode? I'm surprised that it's having this signal problem as older dji drones that just use a wifi signal system like the mavic air can go further than this
Great Vid..are you flying in CE mode?
Where did you get that prop holder at 0:05? Been looking for one myself!
Great informative video and looking forward to your holiday snaps đđ
cheers mate
i did several trials with mini2 and it really vary on locations. open space with not much expected signal transmission can extend it further, furthest i did was more than 3km i can extend further but i didnt.. it is a nice trial to confirm range but not needed on most cases. cheers.
Notice he said mini2, mini3 is not capable of that
@@jaycarl1562 There are numerous videos on YT where the Mini 3 goes well beyond 3km, so yeah, it is capable of that - but maybe only in FCC mode.
Just about to get my mini 2 cannot wait đđđ
can you turn the lights on drone for night time flight
Thank you Darren, I haven't hit you in awhile I have not been flying lately this year but I do keep up with what's going on. glad to see this video đč, I still have the mini 2đ
Question for you, I have the mavic 3 and in your honest opinion should I also get the mini 3 pro also? Iâm a complete novice when flying with maybe 30 hours of flying experience. Iâm just curious if I should get it?
go buy a kite and fly that
Very informative, where was the location?
I have had a thought on these range tests. Some donât make it back because of battery. Well looking at the shape of the drone it occurred to me that the drone may actually more streamlined in reverse, and maybe it could go further, easier going backwards. Just as flying sideways must create the most drag. Perhaps a test for this may assist those drone pilots who seem doomed on the way back, maybe it could save the day. A test showing a range test in reverse vs forward may establish an important drone action to perform on returns.
I'm pretty sure someone will find a way to use fcc mode instead of ce in europe, fcc mode surely has lower dropouts?
Good test again Darren
Very pretty for choppy video. Would like to know settings and filters you use for your shots.
Filters I use are linked in description by freewell
I am intending to buy a DJI 3 Drone. As I paraglide as a hobby can I get a wrist control for my drone as with airdog ? the simple device that you can change the height and circle around you.
Have you considered any of the antenna modifications that folks are making to the controller?
yes but for everything that I film and have filmed the signal has been great for me
No one really flies that far anyway. I'm not worried, but in the urban scenario I guess flying higher can give you a little bit more range. For wide open spaces I don't really have an answer except "VLOS". The fact that these drones can exceed 2km is already a wonder all its own so I guess I would already be happy with that and not push the "short range" button repeatedly.
These will go 6 plus miles
I have the DJI Mini 3 PRO. Is it worth it to buy the DJI - Mini 3 Pro Fly More Kit Plus to have longer flight times? Or the "regular batteries are enough to flight in cities were the flying distances have to be shorter due to WiFI interference.
I find the standard batteries are good enough just grab the fly more kit and then stay under 250g
I wonder if DJI sourced range-related components from multiple vendors? That'd help explain why some people have issues while others don't even in similar scenarios.
I made some nice footage 1500 m away and it's really all the distance I need. Perfect drone! You may have an estimate on how close you can fly to an active volcano? I'm on iceland atm đ
Ooo that would be sick! If in doubt use the 2x zoom!
Agreed - it doesn't matter how far it can go, I won't be going there!
I only film in the immediate area where I am, except from the air. If I want footage from somewhere I haven't been, I can download it.
Hi mate, I tried a distance test last week on my beach in North Wales (over 2 1/2 miles long) I managed to get 2077 meters and got laggie, I was on a cliff and took the drone down so it was about 30meters from sea level. At least I know the safe range... As you said in your video, there's no point in flying it this far. Best to keep it close for the better quality shots. Great video as always... I do have an issue and like to contact you personally.. Is this possible please.
instagram is prob the best way :-)
hey men! just sum advice, if u can look at your home point from the drones camera, u are doing it good. if u cant see urself from the drones camera, u are flying too low ur . u wanna make sure nothing is interupting ur rc signal. my range went from
Great video. And as you say, whatâs the point? Not forgetting that weâre supposed to have the drone in sight all the time; I know Iâm old, but I fail to see how anyone can see that tiny drone with the naked eye from that sort of range.
Does this record on sd card though? So the interference or the signal weakness should not show up when you playback the recorded video, right?
Correct yes
I took mine out today. I was on top of a hill and flying over undeveloped land but still right next to a decent size city and I got my drone out to 7500 ft (2286m) without any issues.
Great video! Love your channel. Whereabouts in Majorca is this?
This isnât Majorca, my Majorca videos were around 2 months ago if you want to check them out
Sorry, which location is this? Are you in ce or fcc?
I see you're flying in Turkey. Do they (Turkey) use the CE standard or FCC? I'm guessing if it were FCC, you would've gotten more range, that is, video wise.
It's still crap in town, unless you fire up fcc.
Nothing but before the end of the warranty, write that you want to return the product to them because of the breach of the contract.
The rth is really good, idea in these drones. I got the tello drone for Xmas as a gift never played with a drone before but got hooked since I've had it and now want the mini 2 or 3.
Footage/pictures aren't captured locally on the SD card? Choppy footage just on RC screen, or I am wrong?
I flew my mini 3 to some wind turbines in the sea on holiday 3 miles had no problems but there was no interference but I totally agree with you it gets bloody boring lol but overall its a brilliant drone and like you say how far do you need to go because you want the quality feedback. As usual Darren great video I take it you'll be grabin the new dji avatar đđđ đŹđ§
thank you mate, yes the drone is awesome and I managed to capture some great footage with it, I never to a-b flying in the straight line but I did get some great use of all this drones features ! Glad you enjoying it too !
Another holiday? đ looks stunning, where are you? Excellent video as always đđŒ
Near Antalya, lovely place đ
I seen the Turkish flag and I was actually planning on going there soon to Istanbul when I buy my own Dji Mini 3 Pro
I wanted to ask do you need any special permission to allow you to take the mini drone with you to Turkey?
Any advice will be a massive help thanks in advance
Especially if you want to see a lot of unsophisticated and rude Russians, it's pretty much the only place they are somewhat welcome or at least their money are welcome
Great review. but i still love my mini2
Good to hear
I love the footage people get with their drones but, personally, I like my drone too much to take chances with it. I stop at around 1500 meters (a little less than a mile). I may not get those spectacular far off island shots, but I'm happy with the views I wouldn't be able to get without it.
Thanks for sharing!
Please donât take this the wrong way I really appreciate your hard work and testing but for me a u.k user Iâm more interested in how badly the range is affect in built up area or country side because a lot of users say itâs very poor and as someone that wants to purchase one 300 -500metres just wonât cut the mustard đ
Is it in fcc or ce mode?
Sorry I didnât watch the whole video how far can I fly this in the uk distance wise?
Darren, have you heard about DJI making the new DJI RC compatible with the Mini 2? My Mini 2 does all I need, but I would like to upgrade to the new RC. Thanks for your great videos. Gene
I havenât heard anything, I donât think it will happen unfortunately Gene
Question: when you are in Sportsmode, Obstacle Avoidance is disabled rightâŠ.. so does it switch on when automatic Return to Home is activated? Due to Signal lost for example ? Thanks
Sure does , rth will always work no matter the speed set
@@DMProductions I mean the Obstacle Avoidance in RTH Mode⊠Cause itâs off in Sport Mode
im confused because mine doesnt go further than 150-200meters, it was my first time using it in an urban area.
Super cool video đđ€
Thank you! Cheers bro
I was in Belgium last week and got 3400 meters (11154 feet), before losing signal đ Pretty far, but definitely not the 10 km they're advertising with.
CE mode?
Was this in Turkey what do you need to take it there . Got a mini pro 3 my self now love to take it my self
Is itâs under 500g and you have insurance you good
Agree entirely Darren
Non related question
After editing on iPad and wirelessly streaming on to tv
Footage is very jerky, have now changed fps to 30 from 25
Memory card is good I think
Any thoughts
Cheers
Itâs prob the streaming I would of thought. Try again but upload it to CZcams privately and watch it on the big screen - check results
Will try to load on memory stick and stick in tele, donât want it on CZcams itâs a holiday vid
Have also switched to 30 fps
Keep up the good work
What do you mean it is illegal in many countries to fly from one point to another in a straight line?
so the question is, will DJI make this better range with a firmware update or am I still better off going with the mini 2?
The answer is, DJI lock people from UK onto a weak signal. So unless that changes like in America I'm done buying any of their products
Fantastic video, the signal has been great for me, I never go far either I find it pointless
Good to hear!!
Great video , where is this location ?
Turkey đ
A great video again - as usual. I would not fly that far. I think you said to keep in 500m distance max. so do I. Could not fly that far. Looking forward to your videos from Turkey :)
I flew yesterday over open fields 1000 metres on full signal, started to turn to return & completely lost signal to drone??? Luckily flew back! Worrying though! Great video, very informative đ
Awesome drone I am also mini 3 pro rc user đ€©đ€©đ€©đ€©đ€©
Is your drone a ce model? Ifso that probably explains the distance
Yes it is
England and EU it CE transmission is weaker than the US FCC transmission signal. Some people have been flying up to 12km before losing the signal in FCC.
Totally agree!!!
What was this awesome place you where filming at the start, our kids would love to go there
Antalya.
I think Hidden antennas in the RC and Visible Antenna on the Mini2 RC clearly make a difference.
When in Greece Iâve sent mini 3 into the sea 5km. Nearly lost it because I ignored RTH message,
Hello, first of all I clarify that I am a follower of your channel and I like your videos. On this occasion, I strongly disagree that it is "boring" to fly in a straight line from one point to another. In any case it is "your personal opinion", it is not a truth to affirm. Personally, I really like the "long range" to take the drone to the limit of its possibilities, but this requires a special technique that very few people manage to master. The "long range" is another category and you can't mix the one that flies over close objects with the one that performs "long range", they are very different techniques. Other concepts are necessary for such practice., therefore, something that has to be planned, studied, understood, known to react in an emergency, etc. cannot be boring (in my humble opinion). Greetings from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
How very rude

Yes if you go that rode and want maximum have to plan carefully and watch out for flying conditions such as wind being one of them and so on. Is perfectly fine to disagree. But in my opinion most of creators like photographers are after creating amazing content/art but off course nothing wrong going extreme and pushing boundaries of your drone.
I've had the original Mini, got 5km on that, mini 2, 5km no issues and great pictures and video. Sold those for this mini 3. Pictures and video great, range terrible. I love exploring with my mini, never had an issues with the previous versions, and based on those reputations, I bought this one. Brother you're making excuses for this drone, and I'm not sure if it's biased excuses. 10km advertised. Not even close. I am not confident flying this drone even 1km away.
I can easily go 2500m in a open field but in the trees I can't even go 600m without disconnecting
Same, one of my biggest disappointments with this drone after upgrading from the Mini 2. I do love it overall, but the long distance signal is pretty poor compared.
Saaaaame!
fair play, i rarely get more than 1000m before it starts to drop out... and that's higher up than you were here.
