I went vegan in college by accident. I hated lines and I did t have the time to wait in them at the cafeteria because I was juggling jobs. There was NEVER a line for salad xD . Once I realized I hadn't eaten meat or milk in months, I just kept going. Its been 2 years now, i dont miss it at all, i feel great!
🌿
You're not alone.
Really similar story but the bottom line, all the queues are for non Vegan "food".
Easier to just go for the carbohydrate whilst everyone else is entranced by the Pied Piper of Keto.
The funny looks you get are a small price to pay for the time you save.
😁
Er... Salad dressing and cheese are the majority make up of what people choose for their salads. Accidental Vegan or vegetarian.
Haha that's fine funny
Good for you. God bless!
Oh my I accidentally somehow unmuted the LOUD music I was listening to while screen capturing Neal Barnard's studies right before export. First person to guess the song I was listening to (Even though it was sped up) gets a free shirt!! Hint: it's sort of emo and older.
LOL
I literally played that part back thinking i just didn't understand the joke
Is it I feel you tonight by gem??
@@daniellleposthuma You aren't the first one to think it was a joke that went over their head lol. Just keeping you guys on your feet!
Thought you put that there on purpose like some sort of new meme hahah
I’m high carb. And high fat and high protein. I just eat high amounts of food.
Lol
same I woke up ate. huuuuge breakfast (2 bananas an apple, a cup of mixed chia seeds pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, sesame, with Ezekiel granola stuff like a cup of that. went back to sleep, woke yup ate a. huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge lunch cup of lentils, cup of quinoa, an avocado half a bagel a fistful of spinach a quarter cup of nutritional yeast and a sweet potato covered in fresh onions and fresh tomatoes. then had 4 black bean burgers with like a pound of sautéed onions and mushrooms. im 145 lbs.
Tristin Roberts Okay, but can we talk about the onions and tomato on a sweet potato?
@@Kleo3392 of course. I usually eat all my stuff in a big bowl and mix everything together so the onions and tomatoes and sweet potatoes were mixed into the quinoa lentils spinach and nutritional yeast and I was shoveling fork fulls of all of that into my mouth
@@rockface112233 A very healthy mix of foods!
i always think of myself as a high carb low fat vegan.....but in reality i eat an avocado at every possible opportunity
I hate avocados and other high fat whole plant foods
Haha me too, and then suddenly the tub of nuts is gone... 🙊
Carbs are not essential. Fatty acids and amino acids are. In other words skip the carbs, eat the avocado.
This is because your body is craving meat, I'm not joking - your body misses omega 3 fats. I was vegan for 2 years - i did a meat keto diet and i felt amazing. I know I'm going to get a lot of hate but maybe I can change someones mind and not destroy their health. A vegan diet is possible but there's a lot of work to it like eating 3 brazil nuts everyday, taking b12 etc. Also it's one of the most unnatural diets in the world :) (especially raw vegan)
@@CraziedVideos Nice you write your experience here, but that a vegan diet is the most unnatural diet is totally bullshit, sorry 😄. Take a look at all the other thousand of species. Do any other species drink milk from other species or eat eggs? The only thing what you can say is that body needs meat. But thats also wrong. 1.. We are definately omnivore! Look at our teeth, bowel and so on. 2. Have a look at our closest relatives, for example the bonobos. They do eat more than 95% Plants! The rest are insects.
So sure we can eat vegan. Its the best option to eat and stay healthy! You can get all the Nutrients from plants, like the other animals do.
The only thing you need to supplement at a vegan diet is Vit. B12. You think B12 is only in animal products? No! B12 got produced by bacterias in our gut. If we would eat natural, wouldnt wash our plants, eat it with a little dirt and drink water from creeks we would consume enough B12!
So if you have an argument why a vegan diet is unhealthy/unnatural, tell me
Great video, and good to see you include Derek Simnett. Great vibe from that guy.
"Namastay vegan" is absolute genius.
Your videos have helped me so much to become educated enough to be able to be mindful when I eat, and know why I make these decisions. I can now explain to my friends and families exactly "what I'm doing" with this lifestyle.
Thank you so much!
You are inadvertantly helping me make life better for generations to come!
Ps. RIP Coconut Cream
Newly minted vegan. Doctor challenged me to go vegan and so far so good. I have been enjoying your content. It is helpful for me to understand the science behind veganism.
When ever I tell people I'm vegan and I don't eat processed foods like oils and sugars they are completely shocked and think I'm crazy but I get flashbacks of your videos and know I'm making the best choice for my body!
I’m not a vegan for health reasons really, more for the animals other than the fact I have a milk allergy and meat makes me feel sick. So I don’t really pay attention to macros. But it’s always interesting to watch your videos, I always learn something new! You make learning fun 😂
say gurl!
Veganism IS for the animals!
Well that's a shame, because as an sick or dead person, you can't help anyone, least of all, the animals.
Leilani Puerto it most certainly is 💕
Cerenade Me well tbh hun I’m here for a good time not a long time. Not to mention I’ve already lost 3 stone. I do what I can and what I want to do. I’m young enough that my eating habits don’t affect me currently. I eat as healthy as I can and want to, I just don’t count macros.
My favorite vegan! Thank you for providing sources to your studies and being transparent with who is funding what. I am going vegan at age 15 thanks to you and I cook vegan meals for my whole family twice a week! Science is great!
You should start later in life, those animal products will seriously help you grow very healthily. Even if it's just eggs and milk; but only if they come from a good source. None of the mass produced shit, or you probably would be better off on a vegan diet.
Keep it up! Occasionally circle around on what you’re eating to make sure it’s balanced and you’ll be great!
Makingblah71 I could maybe see the argument POSSIBLY that eggs could contribute to health, but dairy? It's meant for baby cows not humans!
-ah71, remind me, what exactly apart from saturated fat and cholesterol, will those animal products provide as opposed to a varied non-animal menu. I am sorry I did not start much, much earlier.
@@Makingblah71why not start asap if the exact same nutrients obtained from animal products can be found on a balanced vegan diet? What is the difference? I mean negative difference, since there's a lot of positives on quitting meat an all the animal products; so the sooner you ditch the latters, the better.
Yassssssss!! Can’t get enough of this!!
Great video! I love your cozy sweater Mic ✌️
And I love that new shirt-I want
Just love your videos!!! I love the science and research!
Love your awesome info and work!!!! 💟
Just a quick word the thank you for your great videos and information shared - keep up the good work!
Nice sweater ! Looks very warm :) Great video thanks for sharing!
Another great video! Thank you, Mike! I´m surprised no TV channel has picked up your videos. You are entertainment gold! Keep it up, please!
4:38 aaaaaahhh I dieddddd. Keep going man!
I love your T-shirt idea! I also appreciate your balance of intelligence, humor, and general coolness. Thank you for making your sane videos.
Excellent video Mic! You're truly a fun and educational person to watch and I appreciate what you're doing. Keep it up brotha man!
Great video Mic. Spot on 👍
Thank you 🙏 for all the work you put into these videos!! I want a shirt!!
Thanks for this video! Like you, I tend to eat whole foods mostly without counting macros (I'm just way too lazy for that). So covering which foods have the highest saturated fat content that we should consider limiting is helpful. And I loved all the other hodgepodge!
Always happy to c my notification from u 😇
Hope to see some holiday stuff soon!
Thank you so much for doing this. I am from TN so there is a lot of hate for veganism and you have helped me so much for backing up my stance on veganism. ❤
I went vegan when I was living in Tennessee! All the vegan restaurants in Nashville were instrumental, I got so much inspiration from them :-)
I’m a vegan in Tennessee, too!
I'm a vegan in TN, three. 🤗
Great video Mic! Very informative as always. I have sent some friends (that I was discussing with online)over to your channel because of how you always reference scientific articles to make your points. Thanks for all the information!! It’s much appreciated.
🤍
Mike thanks for being the voice of reason and responding in such a professional way relying on facts and not spinning facts to get attention. Love your channel keep doing what you are doing. Happy holidays to you guys!
Mic, you helped me so much with all your videos. I started going Plant-based about a week ago and I'm absorbing all this information. I bought Dr. Joel Fuhrmans book Eat to Live and read it in 4 hours. I've been to many vegan channels and I have to say yours is one of the most informative with best up-to-date info that you have access to plus your personality is awesome. I bet people in your life get along easily with you. Thanks for all you do and helping people like me make a turn around for better nutrition and better our planet in the process.
Thanks Mike. I enjoy your research on these topics.
Thanks Mic! This was very helpful
Great video, thanks for sharing
Always so much knowledge
Thank you so much for this video! I seriously love watching you and I have learned so much! ♥️♥️🍕
Thanks for another great video, Mic! The shirt is "super adorbs" btw, so I just snagged one for me and my hubby on Bonfire! 😍😁🐰🌱
Once again another great video. Thank you so much for your thoughts about Dr. Neal Barnard, he's one of my heroes also. Also, good call on giving up the coconut cream.
top form Mic, authentic reasoning hits the spot again.
Yes such things must be examined and analysed as you have done. Well explained. Thanks.
Great video!!! Thank you
So I get the extremes especially for the folks Esselstyn worked with, but I judge my fat and oil intake by my results. So my cholesterol is also 110 and my ldl is 50 so I ain’t worried. If I see it going up some then I’ll cut it back but it’s hard enough to get people to eat healthy let alone plant based let alone oil free. I work with people everyday so I know how this is. A little oil here and there won’t hurt you especially walnut oil and its fantastic along with walnut milk which is absolutely ridiculous. Sometimes we do a little vegan cheese which is a few grams of saturated fat from coconut oil, but again, this is only once and a while. Check you labs and titrate your food accordingly and you’ll be doing much better than most. Great job as always Mic!
I could be wrong but what's the link between oil and cholesterol? There is no cholesterol in oil, so it is no surprise your cholesterol levels are good if you're vegan. It is however very high in saturated fat and calories. If you're not trying to loose weight, you pretty much don't care about calories, but saturated fat is not healthy.
Also, the argument "[a little bit of this] here and there won't hurt you" is not receivable. I'm sure many vegans heard it already about meat or dairy. Even if it did not hurt you in very small doses, it is the kind of thinking that makes you, in the end, eat too much of it. Once a month is a little bit. Once a week is more. Once a day is too much. But since it's only once, you can keep telling yourself "a little bit is not gonna kill me, so no worries".
But please don't take this personally. I am not judging you, nor your dietary habits, and am not trying to impose my will on you. Keep enjoying your vegan cheese and your oil and, most of all, stay vegan ! ;)
@@tibhamel Cholesterol is produced to facilitate shuttling fats around the body, LDL levels (the "bad" cholesterol) are particularly responsive to saturated fat. It's a complex topic with lots of corner cases and genetic variants - but on average more dietary fat should mean higher cholesterol.
@@LordFuzzandBeak well thank you very much for that useful bit of information :)
@@tibhamel I would also like to add that I have been getting my bloodwork done with my gp. My Total Cholesterol (non-fasting) is at 5.8 mmol/litre despite being vegan for 7 years. It should really be at 4 mmol's or less (You want 3mmol's or less of LDL, or bad cholesterol and 1mmol or more of HDL, or good cholesterol. This can only be explained by my consumption of saturated fat (or an undiagnosed liver problem), as I obviously haven't eaten any cholesterol in 7 years. 5.8 mmol would calculate out as roughly 225mg/dl, way worse than mics 110, but I eat a lot of processed foods and rarely exercise (habits i intend to break).
@@Xelian86 Saturated fat is far worse than cholesterol for your blood chol levels..
*The most important thing you can do is to get s glucose meter and know what your insulin levels are* . Anything above a glucose level of 140 and you are burning up your arteries.
I was eating a high carb vegan diet and had a resting glucose levels of 120 (diabetic levels), with a 1 hour reading of 160-200.
When I got a CT Angiography I was 50% blocked in my widowmaker LAD artery when I should have been squeaky clean using the Dr. Esselstyn approach, and despite having excellent bloodwork scores for triglycerides, and HDL/LDL scores.
I now eat lower carb vegan diet, and my resting glucose level is now 85, and I only peak to 115-117 now.
So my arteries can finally heal and reverse my endothelial damage!
So: *Pay attention to your glucose levels.*
Does diabetes run in your family?
And how are you going now?
@@magnesiumoar9644 Very good. I just got my nuclear stress angiography results back, and I am now 0% blocked. They cross checked the results and confirmed the former blockage is gone.
Shane Creamer wow that's amazing, thanks for your reply! So I'm guessing you stuck to the lower carb vegan diet then? If you don't mind me asking, how old are you and what percentage of carbs would you say you have in your diet? I'm 20 and I'm terrified of having a heart attack one day...
Love your videos! I have been subscribed for a long time now and now our family channel is subscribed!!
The T-shirt is adorable I love it!!
Very good points here! Thanks...
Regarding the suggestion to "smash in those carbs," it could be a psychological thing to help borderline eating disorder folks with carb phobia to get over their fear and get enough calories in. These carb enthusiasts even say initial weight gain is fine. It could be a mindset to set someone up for success in the long term. I don't agree with them but I'm guessing this is where these high carb people are coming from.
Other examples outside of nutrition are:
5x5 in the gym is arguably better for beginners but 3x5 means less time in the gym and therefore better adherence.
Paying off high interest debt first makes more sense but paying off the smallest debts first boosts morale and sets up a habit.
Making the bed makes no sense but it could train your mind to be productive regardless of how you feel.
So these things are not optimal but I can see how they have the potential to set people up for better adherence and success in the long run.
Omfg that tshirt is so cool! Genius
your videos are fab !!!
I'm so ready for the sugar video! After significantly cutting sugar down, I feel so much better!
Hi Mic, thanks for the video. Possible video idea - discuss what you think the best whole food plant based books to read are,. For example, how not to die, eat to live etc.. and then there are more specific books for certain health conditions.
Thanks Mic!
You handled that well! -I agree wholeheartedly with your stance on the matter.
The omega 6 : omega 3 ratio from Chronometer in 85 is TEN to one, that's insane.
That shirt is adorable! I love it.
did you leave your music on during the neal barnard part ? Its way too loud
I use cartoned coconut milk. It's a lot lower. 1g saturated fat for 100ml. So not as big a deal. Get the taste without the fat.
We could listen to you all day Mike!!
Great stuff once again!
Oh and let your hair grow mate, cuz cool ;D
Can anyone tell me which video of his has the pizza recipe that he talked about in this video??
I like your honest reviews...
1400lbs of saturated fat... that's mind-blowing.
And artery blowing.
@@MictheVegan Its carbs that cause inflammation and artery damage, not fat. Cholesterol is sent there to patch up the damage, not cause it.
@@KarasekUS shhh don't question the vegan dogma based on outdated science

I'm convinced it is the best way to eat... thanks for bringing this together!
I put tangerine wedges in my black beans and brown rice with turmeric and black pepper last night. Yummy
That sounds hella good
I put tangerine wedges in my oatmeal. Yum yum
'Others cause some issues' I FREAKEN LOVE IT! hahahah. The word or words Smartass, fit you well Mike. Awesome work as always brother :)
I think high carb and low carb can sometimes be a little subjective. Some people believe low carb to be 50 grams of carbs max or even anywhere under 200 grams. High carb could be perceived as anywhere over 50 grams or +200-300 grams of carbs. Personally I thrive around 200 grams carbs MINIMUM 😂 but I still consume more than 50 grams of fat, so a balanced approach works for me personally!
Isn't "balance" subjective as well? Everyone calls their approach balanced.

Thank you so much Mic!! This is an excellent video, I very much needed to hear that information. I personally consume a high carb raw diet but I also eat a lot of nuts & healthy fats, they are so necessary in my opinion.
That was brilliant! Thanks mike for explaining the 70g saturated fat in that coconut cream!! I somehow missed that one and love my Thai curries! 😱😬😁 love your channel! Keep it coming!
I’m glad you commented on this. Rewatch the video. I’m pretty sure the 70 was 70 percent of the RDA not 70 grams of saturated fat.
7:04 LOL
Can anyone tell me what is considered a ‘low saturated fat diet’
I try to eat absolutely no more than 15g per day but I usually eat around 8-12
If I have an off day then I occasionally end up having around 20-25g but that’s only about once a month or so
So how much should I be consuming?
lower than 15% of your calories, that comes to under 25-30g depending on your average caloric intake
Good stuff; I especially appreciate hearing your final thoughts on the vegan "apostate" trend. TFP!
Hi....
Are ur t-shirts here for a limited time or will they always be available?

@Mic the Vegan
. What do you think of the 20g of saturated fat limit? also is it Lady Antebellum need you now?
Nice video! I thought this is in response to the vegSource video about nuts.
Hey Mic great stuff. :) Ur looking wild, how much beard u going for?
I focus on carbs and protein at home when I want to be cheap. I eat high fat when I go out and I want to live life in the fat lane.
Hey, Mic, when you do your sugar video, could you include other sweeteners? Like xylitol and other sugar alcohols? Thanks! Although all the sweeteners out there probably deserve a video of their own. I use xylitol instead of sugar, in really small amounts, but as with everything on the Internet, reports vary.
could you make a video talking about seeds vs nuts? also considering Omega-6 content. Are both equally healthy or should we consume both every day? thanks!
Thanks this video is informative. I would like a video on sugars please. I got to learn about a few things that I didn't know about nuts and olive oil.
I’m gonna order this shirt!
I don’t use olive oil but love olives! Are they good or bad? I don’t have them often but want to keep them in my whole foods choices.
So..where do I get essentially fatty acids and amino acids from? I’m just trying out a vegan diet but struggling as to know what I can eat that isn’t going to kill me (saturated fats) nuts sound iffy, is avocado ok? I’ve always thought avocado was good fat! Please enlighten
I'm a new high carb, whole food dietier, trying to lose over a hundred pounds pounds, so yeah, I'm studiously avoiding any kind of processed food, limiting my nuts and seeds and avocados, and using the least amount of oil I can currently cook with. I will add avocado and nuts and seeds back, in a few months. If I'm short something, that maybe a problem for future me. I'm eating a lot of rice and veggies right now tho. It's working too!
Mike you've cracked this one wide open.
Hey can I get your opinion on something? Good morning. So I'm trying to incorporate more healthy whole food plant based fats into my diet because my bmi dropped very low ( 13.5) and I lost my period for about 2 months continues. What a healthy not too much percent in a day in your opinion?
Amen to the disagreements bro!❤️✨🌿
Question... I am a very picky eater, so i have smoothies every morning filled with a variety of fruits, oats, flaxseeds, and garden of life raw meal. Then I'll usually have a huge pasta dinner. My cronometer numbers are perfect but I'm just not sure if I'm breaking up to much fiber in my smoothies. My blood work reflected total cholesterol 74, Triglicerydies 49, and glucose at 90. Just curious on anyone's thoughts if this is good long term(did the bloodwork 5 years after starting this lifestyle)
Man i love the outro music.
I need that tshirt in my life!
omg what a cute shirt !!!!! i want it :)
Eating high carb causes my blood sugar to spike so I am needing to eat less starches
Nothing wrong with consuming nuts........in moderation 😂 nuts are fine to eat, stop being scared!
Cr8zystar I agree. Nuts, seeds, avocados, etc. are healthy foods no matter how you slice it.

I can't find the send a message button for you Mic , on your " about " option
I want the shirt! Where do I order it?
Hmm. I think this confused me a bit more on how I should balance my macros on most days. You kinda said if you found out you had high cholesterol you would do something that could be detrimental to your health in another way. Am I overcomplicating this? I have a lot of healtg issues to reverse/help relieve symptoms of so I have been thinking really hard on this.
Came for the video.....left with a T-Shirt!!
