It's so crazy to think that like a year ago I would just eat whatever, like plain white pasta, smothered in butter with some chicken, or just chocolate cereal and milk for breakfast and I considered that a meal. But now after going vegan I watch informative videos like this and really think about what I'm eating and am definitely getting far more nutrients and less of the bad stuff. And yet, my parents are more concerned about what I eat now than before ... it baffles me.
Same story here. I ate McDonalds every day for an entire year. Got very sick and was loaded with acne. Now I am on a whole foods vegan diet and my parents tell me it is unhealthy and I eat too much carbs. Lol, oh well. They will see some day, hopefully. Honestly I am concerned about their health...
i hear that lol..
Mmmm, sketti and buttur.
If they are too mean about it, challenge them to go get their blood pressure and cholesterol tested.
I'm right there with you. heck, My mom encouraged me to eat frozen pizza of all things just for the sake of me eating some dairy. dafuk?!
I've been vegan for 2.5 months and I feel amazing! I had no idea what a whole food even was a year ago. Get that message out there!!! 💕

Where ya get yo protein?
@@goku445 Plenty O' healthy protein in plants and if you add nuts, seeds and legumes - you will probably get more protein than carnivores get.
@@shtroizn I'm getting twice the RDA as a WFPB vegan.
@@goku445 Along with animal hormones, saturated fat, cholesterol, antibiotics and god knows what else. I suggest you do some research into why WFPB is the healthiest nutrition - check out websites like Nutritionfacts.org and www.dresselstyn.com
omg i audibly said thank GOD when he said that bananas are ok blended
Same!
Ha ha! :-D Of course they are.
I dont care il never give up my fruit/veggie smoothies
Contradicting. Ripe Bananas are already high glycemic. I would only juice low glycemic fruits like many berries
What god?
"That doesn't mean you need to eat the tea bag" - 😂😂😂
dont i feel silly now..

It's easy to forget as a vegan that the general population really has no concept of 'whole foods.' When I talk about health and nutrition with other people, they're on such a different page to us... we were all in that mindset once. It's sad because these people manage their diets terribly as a result, and obesity across the western world resulting from people doing what they've always been told is right. Keep up the great videos mic., you are easily CZcams's most promising vegan content creator and you're going to go faaaaar.
Actually there is more evidence to suggest that despite dietary recommendations, even by government bodies, that a large portion of the population do not follow these recommendations. Even people who follow a vegan diet often come-up with deficiencies that people following a conventional diet will. People overall (ie. vegan versus non vegan), generally have a poor understanding of proper nutrition.

Veganism is bad.
Donald Trump I know you're a troll but the point is we want more people to know this. Not that we're showing off what we know.
You're trying too hard, Donald and it isn't working. Nobody has called anyone stupid, nobody has believed themselves to be superior. Saying that the population doesn't have a general concept of whole foods is undeniably the case. We live in an age where there are 1,000 diets recommended to people, and the vast majority of them are total bullshit. Whole foods plant-based is the only one proven to deliver better long-term health and yet it gets nothing like the air-time of things like Atkins or Paleo. Now crawl back under your bridge, you came here looking to 'call out' people who think they're better and you didn't find any, so you just had the argument you wanted to have anyway.
Donald Trump
well now your just presuming to understand how freedom foxs mind works
Overytime I ask myself a question about nutrition or veganism, Mic post a video to answer it !
I read that as 'OVARY-time" LOL ...and yes, I agree! thanks Mic The Vegan!
Aaaaa thank you for addressing the whole eating disorder aspect. That’s so helpful and respectful
Had a discussion with a colleague about the difference between whole fruits, juice and smoothies. Three hours later I get a notification that this video's been uploaded. It's like you knew somehow that I needed a good link to send him! Great video, thanks for putting it together!
Good content, mate.
Thanks, I know this isn't a super exciting or sensational topic but I felt I needed to make it.
+Mic. the Vegan I am excited! 😊
The more research I do, the more I find out how backwards our society is.

Loved your comment about the emotional effect vs. the physical effect! Eating super healthy instead of just healthy and relaxed is not worth the orthorexia
Well eating a whole cow is impossible. Now I see why meat is unhealthy.
you're so underrated here man
Ahhh thank you so much for this!! This is the best video I’ve found about whole foods! I really loved all the details :)
Whole foods are a good principle, but to ease over from fully processed, I use things like salsa. I could not eat my rice and mashed pinto beans without salsa or some flavoring. I would like to modify my recipe by adding a very hot sauce and removing the salsa. That way, I can use less throughout the dish, and I believe, and use less salt and other things as a result. I need to have minimally processed hot sauce though.
I have been a vegan for 2 weeks. I have a very static diet and do not require variety. It turns out I am never hungry as I was when eating junk food, diary and meats. Something about those causes my appetite to be too high for the number of calories consumed.
I feel much better. I sleep better and I feel general well being and relaxation. It is likely my cholesterol is down significantly from unhealthy to healthy. My imagination is more vivid, and my thoughts are far more clear.
You helped motivate me, Mic. Thanks to you and people like Dr. Mcdougall I have strong resolve to help myself and the planet.
Track your nutrients on chronometer for a couple of weeks just to make sure you're getting what you need if you're not already
@@jesusclause4164 I did that, and I'm off the switchover food like salsa now. I eat whole wheat bread, whole wheat pasta with black beans, spinach, and tea with the occasional fruit. I checked the nutrition carefully. This is easy and works so I'm very happy now, and healthy, still very healthy, same as the beginning when I got real healthy.
What’s wrong with salsa?
I came from SAD to WFPB after watching FoK. I'm youngish (34) and convinced my husband to join me in giving up meat, dairy and vegetable oil. We were pretty good for the first month or 2, but we've gotten a little lax (about the vegetable oil) this 3rd month. We find ourselves asking many of the questions you addressed in this video (particularly about nut butters and plant milk) so THANK YOU! Very informative! We both still have weight to lose, and your evidence reinforces my belief that we should continue to avoid highly processed junk like oil and overly processed carbs like tortillas, bread and pasta.
I became a vegetarian a few days ago with the goal of eventually becoming vegan. The whole food vegan goal seemed unattainable for me at this point in the process, but this video helped clarify a lot of my concerns and I think I could get there eventually! Thank you!
I think that's OK, just try to eat more vegan foods. Some vegetarians aren't so healthy because they are basically replacing meat with dairy instead of trying to incorporate more variety into their diets.
This video helps me so much. Probably my favorite of all of your videos!
Thank you Mike!!! For making these videos, I love them!!! They are very informative and helpful🙏🏻🤗🌺
I cant watch all your videos fast enough!!! Love your down to earth way of being so informative!!
Awesome video! Thanks for clearing all this up, I was wondering about a lot of this.
I was thinking of this question recently for ages, so glad you made a video address it!
I'm actually confused by this all the time, this helps a lot! Thanks man!
Can you do a video on the Soy controversy
Love your level headed approach to most everything
You should SERIOUSLY become my Doctor!!
the more I watch your channel the more I'm addicted to it! You bring out such good points
Yay information! Glad you like it.
Absolutely love your channel!! So informative and to the point! Thank you!💗
This was really helpful! It is far more clear now and less confusing. Thanks.
Thank you. This helped so much! You and your chanel truly are a Godsend
You rock dude, FANTASTIC summary!!!
Thanks a lot for this video. I was asking this recently on your plantspace forum. I was getting really confused about all this stuff. I feel much less worried about it now and can enjoy my food
You explain things so well and I feel like I have a much better understanding of this now.
I need more videos like this about vegan whole foods, it's really helpful. Thanks Mic.
Thanks for this! Clears things up a lot for this newbie!
sharing this!
Aww I appreciate it! :)
Thank you so much! you are a phenomenal resource for me to make sure im at least in the right ball park diet wise
Great video! I am really looking forward to the one you mentioned about cookware!
Thanks for clarifying some details!!!
Thank you I was wondering about this *whole* thing lately !
Thanks for touching on the eating disorder bit, it was helpful and tbh a bit of relief to continue to be going in the right direction.
Thanks for all your videos!
I swear this is one of the best videos I´ve ever watched!
awesome!
I like this video, because it feels like the next step in the discussion after why you should become vegan. How to be vegan is really important to me.
Thanks for the clear explanation! Always enjoy your videos:)
Great video! Helped me SO much.
Wow this was extremely helpful! Thank you!
Nice Mic. Thank you very much. You are appreciated. You the best.
I had an ad about diabetes before this video... lol!

You're videos are soo helpful!
Really thorough video! Thanks :)
Extremely helpful!! Thank you!!!
this was so informative! thank you!!
i was thinking about this today and you did a vedio about it. awesome!
Could you do a video about spirulina, chlorella, barley grass juice powder ect?
Emily Wilson probably falls into the low calorie and dosent cause the blood sugar/fat spikes
My cow is what ehh, early early God
Great video. Keep up the good work!
I don't think I'll ever eat fully whole foods (unless my health forces me to haha) but it's still interesting to hear more about it. It does inspire me to eat a bit healthier and less junky :)
As always super informative and interesting .i'm making the transition to vegan , your info is priceless, and its because of guys like you that have helped do this for me.
Loved the video! Really excited for the oil-free video bc I am transitioning away from oil right now. The only oil left in my vegan diet is a tsp of salad dressing (with sesame oil in it) but I'm hopeful to be oil-free within the next month. Trying lots of oil-free dressing recipes!
Awesome video Mike! I tend to go for the grade A type of foods but i totaly understand your point of view, some food is in the middle in terms of processing!
I used to really dislike content on CZcams and I feel like I found my niche with your videos, you couldn't be doing a better job of explaining your position. Thanks so much :)
Keep making these videos. You rock.
This video was so helpful thank you!
I was just wondering and worried about some the topics you brought up today. I will start following Dr. E and his son more closely now. I have their books on Kindle and hard copies but had not really looked at them yet. I just went plant based whole food last November and lost 30lbs so far but kind of confused about the details . Thank you for your videos, they are always so factual, on topic and helpful!
Thank you! Great information here 👌🏼
Great video, thank you!
I just wanted to let you know that with olives, they have to be picked off the tree and then processed before eating. They aren't really eaten straight off of the tree because of the bitter fruit water.. it tastes so bad hahah. So the jars your buy in supermarkets aren't olives in their natural form
Amazing series!! I am not vegan but aspire to be one... glad I came across your work... You're ahead of the curve... the world will catch up one day.
Great video! I didn’t know lots of this, as a vegan whos on the lower end of healthy weight and overthinks a lot, its good to know how healthy stuff is and then just moderate amounts. Cleared up my confusion on smoothies and nut butters and syrup and just yep its not an all or nothing thing like my mind sometimes thinks! Slowly improving my diet but working on adding more healthy stuff instead of cutting out less healthy stuff as I’d like to put on some weight (often neglected in wfpb talk)
Your content is amazing. I really enjoyed this video :)
Excellent video! Well done! 👍🏻
very informative! Thanks for this!
great description!!!!
Great info!
great video, as always!
I've been researching the vegan diet for a couple days now ever since watching 'What the Health' on Netflix last week. Very informative. I have not yet started the diet, although i am getting prepared. Just bought a few cookbooks, but we are finishing up the meats we bought recently and stocking up on the vegan diet foods to replace my unhealthy eating habits. I've started eating more fruits and vegetables this week than i ever have and hoping i can adhere to this lifestyle for a better future! The best part is not only am i bettering my health but saving livestock and the environment just by being more healthy! Never thought much of veganism until i watched the documentary. GREAT VIDEOS MIC! Keep em coming and keep me motivated!
Just FYI meat has been part of my diet in just about every meal I have eaten my whole life, so this will be a challenge. I love burgers, brats, ribs, steak ,etc. but knowing how my mother passed away from cancer and the fact that she was also diabetic. She always as concerned about my health as well as her own and after losing her and knowing what i know now after watching 'What the Health' i don't think i could stay ignorant to the facts i learned without giving it a try and see how much my health will improve and hopefully never have to go through what she did by changing my eating habits.
I friken love your beard! great video definitely needed
That was really helpful. Thanks :)
Very helpful, thanks!
I love your videos dude!
this video was so helpful!!!!
TIGHT video brother!!! Sometimes we vegans begin to become so obsessed with this "Whole Foods" idea, that we lose sight of simply being reasonable. It's OK to consume some Sunflower Butter if you prefer it over Sunflower Seeds. People are getting too obsessed these days. Let's just focus on getting as many phytonutrients and Fiber in our diets, even if that means getting having an NB smoothie per day. As long as you don't down the drink, and you drink it over the course of 5-10 minutes, it's fine. It's better to get the extra (for ex) 2 servings each of Fruits and Veg in a Smoothie, than to avoid it over concerns of Fructose separating from the Fiber. However, people are confused over a smoothie versus Juicing. Juicing is another story since you're removing most of the fiber. So in that case, we obviously don't recommend it. Great job as always, Mic!
thank you for teaching my mom how to feed me. x
This is crazy helpful. I'm gonna start transitioning to a whole foods vegan diet over the coming months and this is a great jumping off point.
it was confusing for a new vegan like me until you said B may be for disease prevention, and i was able to see things a little more focused. i really like your videos, they encourage and inform me without making me feel like i need to be extreme
I love your videos! It makes my day!
eating brown rice, lentils, green peas, broccoli, spinach and carrots all mashed together while watching this . :P
hook a brother up!
Love these videos! Thank you for making them. I'm day three of transitioning from mostly carnivorous to lacto vegetarian. I'm wanting to slowly but surely transition to a grade B whole food lifestyle! **If you haven't already can you do a video discussing getting the best options while out of the home, like Starbucks... Olive Garden... etc... I have dinners with investors & clients a lot & im not sure how to still eat "normal" while eating out. Does that make sense?
Got it! Thanks for this video it explained a lot. A simple whole food diet is safer. Thanks for sharing 👍🏽
This really clarified a lot for me
Great topic!
Thank you so much for making this video! I've been asking myself the "whole food question" about maple syrup for some time now... :)
now it's probably because I'm coming from a background of mental health issues( and I revisited this video), I appreciate the broad view without it losing it's point of looking at what a whole food is. Pointing out that there is a gradient of what foods make the "whole" food cut, while still holding to a level headed approach is really refreshing and encouraging.
Looking at Grade A and Grade B tracks; addressing the health benefits to reversing disease and the mental health aspects of if you need to eat something not so great go ahead if you're in an airport.
The fact that you are delving into topics that span into the mental health realm such as eating disorders and offering to interview someone...
THANK YOU!
Great video as always:)
Thanks Mic. I did throw out my micro like 10 years ago... but you have helped me step up my diet another step. I still cheat a lot, but now I'm grassing on something whole food everyday.
Great information
great job!
Love the critical view on green smoothies, even though I like em. Any idea on reviewing the presence of berries to that? Greger is a big fan of adding berries to reduce the speed or sugar absorption.
Very useful video, Mic! I have a request for one of your next videos: could you do one on non-stick pans? Which are better to use, Pfoa free, aluminum free, etc. That would be much appreciated!
I love your videos! 🖤
Since going vegan, I've had trouble keeping fat off. But then again, I had less of a better chance beforehand. Maybe it's just because of getting older and messed up hormones. I've realized that a major positive result I've gotten from going vegan is MENTAL HEALTH! My depression has improved greatly, and suicidal thoughts aren't there anymore. 💚
