I am 40 years old. I have been suffering from tinnitus for approximately 13 years as a result of a sound shock as a result of hearing a gunshot close to my head. The noise I am currently hearing is so intense that my head almost explodes. I go to sleep every day and I am full of hope that I will wake up as I was before the incident.

In September of 2007, I had sudden hearing loss while at work one day. I had a strange noise in my ear that sounded like tree frogs. That went on for about 40 minutes. I went to my doctor that day to find out what was going on. He wasn't sure what was going on. Later that night, I had experienced a balance issue. So, I went to ER to see if I could get help with the hearing loss and lack of balance. I was prescribed Meclizine. After about three weeks, my balance had finally returned. The hearing did not come back. Also, I've had a steady hiss ever since the hearing loss. Eventually, I went to see and ear, nose, & throat specialist. He had my hearing tested by an audiologist. I was told I had about an 80% hearing loss. Also, an MRI was done sometime after that. I was told about three possible causes for what happened. A benign tumor, mini stroke, or virus. After the MRI, it was determined it was a virus. For days leading up to the hearing loss, I had experienced on occasion what sounded like shots of air in that ear. At first I thought it was fatigue. Not sure why. Any thought about what may have happened? Thank you.

No but I have constant hissing. I have a lot of ear wax build up and that could be the reason. But I looked online and there are many reasons. I have HBP and that may be the problem. I just live with it. But stem cells are curing so many things, I am going to look into it. You can get the intense stem cells that people have better eye sight, don’t know about hearing but look into it! Best wishes to you and find a chiropractor, they have success with tinnitus!! Could be retracing your brain from the shot gun ! If they did not find anything strict, then it’s your brain telling you that there is still a problem! Hope this helps?

I think the reason hearing aids seem to help with tinnitus is simply because they amplify other sounds so that the tinnitus sounds are not the only noise coming through.

I have no personal experience but I have understood that hearing aids can sometimes actually lessen the tinnitus and not only mask it. This would make sense if tinnitus is caused by not enough nerve information moving from cochlea to the brain (because of damaged hair cells). Tinnitus is the brains response to those frequencies and nerve information disappearing and the brain tries to make up for the lost activity by creating tinnitus where the hearing loss is happening. Hearing aids will boost those frequencies back up so the brain can get a sensation that all is functioning normally again and it will stop creating tinnitus.

I stumbled upon a method of using a vibrator to quiet the tinnitus. The science behind it is to transmit the vibrations along the cartilage from the external ear to the auditory nerve inside the brain.
IT ONLY TAKES A FEW MINUTES. PLEASE CHECK IT OUT.
I used a small electric shaver and placed the non-cutting end to the part of the ear near the entrance of the ear canal. You will probably need to move around that area a bit until you find the spot that gives most benefits.
The vibrating sound can be quite loud so don’t apply it too long. After each try, assess the effectiveness.
Initially, I tried 2-3 spots for 1-2 minutes, they were not effective until I raised the duration to 3 minutes.
Please report back on your experience.

I lost quite a bit of low frequency along with all other ranges. At 37, I quit my job after being mocked as a deaf guy by them for the following 10 months. I was then diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea, proceeded to put on 85 pounds, enlarged liver and enlarged spleen with memory problems. Recently, I switched from Eargo Neo HiFi's to Phonak Lyric 4's with Dr. Cliff's recommendation. I've had success with the Lyric, though, with a high monthly subscription cost. Sounds like might have a jaw or a neck alignment problem. Because of the pulsatile nature of your tinnitus the jaw is a likely culprit. Your jaw muscles are so powerful they can easily pinch nerves and blood vessels. If you have ever been diagnosed with bruxism, or if your pulsatile tinnitus seems to coincide with toothache when waking up, your cure would be very easy. Bruxism is caused by magnesium deficiency. 150 mg of magnesium glycinate in the morning + 150 mg at noon will do the trick. Expect results after approx. 8 weeks. The path to hair cell regeneration is still long but progress has been made for sure, but for example the scientists of the hearing restoration project have identified one of the barriers to hair cell regeneration. I would also strongly suggest checking out Zheng Yi Chen's and Angelika Doetzlhofers' work from Harvard and Johns Hopkins! And by the way, I know that you must feel frustrated that there hasn't been the progress that you might have expected, but it's because of the lack of funding. This seems super targeted ie: Stem cells, Made and programmed exactly correct, implanted exactly in the right position and orientation, in exactly the right amount.
I thought stem cells already had all the DNA and Epigenetic information inside them. As long as they're in the right environment, shouldn't the cell be able to differentiate into the proper cell and, for example connect to the nerve cells just via its own DNA/Epigenetic instructions, and interactions with the surrounding cells in the environment?
Tony Robbins describes a Fire Burn victim (face deformation) treatment as a "Stem Cell Spray Gun" - Spray a coating of stem cells on the face and Boom, The face regenerates good as new (Because the coding for the guy's face is in the DNA and the epigenetic information of face cells knows how the face structure should be, how to connect to neighboring cells, etc.).
In this case I'd think you should just be able to inject stem cells into the ear and they / the body takes care of running the program on their own.
Clearly I'm no expert (or even very knowledgeable) in this area, But I find some of the things I'm hearing recently in this field super exciting.

@@DrCliffAuD Hey Dr Cliff I have a question, If someone is exposed to an episode of loud noise, how long does it take to find out if there was any damage on the hearing? The level of damage can be seeing after the exposure or it takes time to show up? Thank you!

I’m not a doctor but i think right away if the noise was loud enough to cause damage. Sometimes there’s just a temporary threshold right after
