- I'll be needing a bunch of analog video sources for a future video, so I decided to get a bunch of analog cameras! You'd be surprised by some of these, especially for the price.

When the cable is bigger than the camera
😂 fr
Well... FPV drone pilots need to see where the drone is going while switching from shade to direct sunlight at real fast speeds, those cameras have to be decent.
Good point
About the exposed wire loops, one of the wires removes the parking lines, and the other usually mirrors the image (if you are using it in the front)
thx i was curious
No way! That's actually cool!
Exactly what I was going to say!
I've watched so many FPV videos I could instantly tell which camera was the FPV one during the blind test lol
ahhh, now i remember why i'm subscribed to this channel, because i fricking love analog cameras and stuff!!!
anyways great video, i love it :D
I know they’re awesome! Thanks for subscribing!
You should try old CCTV cameras, used Panasonic cameras don't cost much and often have a C-mount for lens. Those cameras usually have a lot more settings and usually a much bigger sensor than those small cameras.
Good to know!
I was gonna say, if you're trying to get some great analog cameras get a nice FOV drone camera... You found it out it seems!
There are some great ones from Caddx, runcam, foxeer,... They might cost a bit more, but have rudimentary settings you can change, great low light and amazing contrast usually. Plus you can go _really_ tiny!
Good to know!
Super handy no frills info. Love it.
nice video! glad to know you can still get analog cameras on the cheap!
Great channel, and I learned a lot, and it was easy! Good stuff, man!! Thanks
In the future I'd recommend adding a low-pass filter when CRTs are in use, some sections of the video are difficult to watch because of the high pitch being produced by it
Oh man I never meant to leave the audio in for that anyway.. sorry! I can't hear that frequency so it always makes it past QC.
@@SimonVideo yeah it is slightly in the recording, specifically the frequency is at 15.7 khz (15.625kHz for PAL; 15.734kHz for NTSC) , so if you are able to EQ that during editing that'll fix it
Love the style and way you made your vid! (And I love analog cameras and stuff as well! )
Thank you!
great stuff, keep it coming. Would be interesting to see you test some Analogue Thermal Cameras
Love this kind of content! Subscribed
Thanks for subscribing!
Thanks I needed 5 tiny cameras for a personal project this saved me a lot of time
whoah! This channel is surprisingly small! nice video, hope you grow
Thank you! I appreciate it!
I use those ntsc back-up cameras for underwater video for fishing after a bit of waterproofing the connectors.
whoa this is giving me some ideas, cool video
I like this. It is simple low tech on the cheap experimenting.
Exactly!
you can buy lenses too! its called m12 camera lens or smtn
am i going to buy an analog camera? no. was i searching for analog cameras? no. but i still loved the recommendation, youtube. great video simon! subscribed
Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Glad this got randomly recommended. Very fun idea
oh wow while i knew in theory these are still around and fairly small, i didn't expect it to be so easy
btw, it feels funny to see the other side of the parasocial relationship, when a video-maker points at a camera or their setup and says "this is you guys :D" like i get that it's not fr and also it's a useful way to see it when you talk to a lens, but hahhh i'm like "no i'm the camera you record this now, my soul shifted from the first one"
Yeah it kinda breaks the illusion 😂
Man needs an analog watch! Great video!
😂 Didn't even think about that!
Came for the cameras, stayed for the dog.
man you need to love analog era, one format simple wires everything was compatible best technological era ever
Nice video! I've been shooting some videos of JDM cars lately and wanted an older, CCD flare effect quality, but bringing my old Handycam is a no go since the tape mechanism stopped working, and I only have a phone gimbal to mount the camera on. I'll probably experiment on these cameras, and make a case to hold them on the gimbal.
Nice!
It's nice to see someone having success with this. I bought a ton of garbage and spent a small fortune getting a few of them to work badly.
Aww dang
how's the operation at elevated temps? I've got a use case where I need a camera to work at 70C but all the usb cams I've tried dump to like 1 fps when you do that to them. if I can get 60 by just buying an analog cam that'd be great
There's a wireless transmitter for the backup cameras. It adds noise but depending on what you're using them for, that can be a good thing.
I'll have to look into that
I've had fun with a VideoSender, and fitting an aerial to an RF modulator. Surprisingly the RF modulator worked better as a transmitter than the VideoSender. I will note that these devices transmit on the old TV frequencies so you'd need an analogue TV tuner (or just use a whole TV). The VideoSenders can also only be bought secondhand, they are no longer legal to produce. I'd avoid having the signal so strong that it can be picked up outside your property as these frequencies are still in use for stuff like digital TV and mobile phone signals. Not that anyone's likely to notice a slightly stronger signal (unless some genius put three TV channels in the middle of the FM radio band like here) but it's better to be on the safe side considering the legality is questionable at best, especially with the modulator.
Probably better of sticking to a modern wireless transmitter that uses the correct legal frequencies.
Very informative video :-)
I love the VHS-style look these cameras put out. I wonder if you could wrap a wire around the video cable and put noise through that wire to give the video a bunch of grain and lines to make it more VHSy
Yeah I would probably end up using my low power analog transmitter
Don't know how i ended up here, but love the content!
Great comparison
I want to 3d print a tilt, pan and maybe even zoom assembly for drone platform
Analog video 4 ever! I just got a composite input and output working on my modern PC.
“Back in my day” I remember unboxing that same Evertz gear lol I feel old seeing old broadcast gear now in the wild lol
Ohhh man it would have been awesome to unbox it. I already have the video on the caption encoder, but I want to get an Evertz logo inserter next
Props!
Imagine you put those very tiny camera as security camera in your store. Thieves would think there's no camera but they are there.
I think the best place for those would be for house security. Thieves are weirdly attracted to houses equipped with security because they believe there is more value in it. So with those thieves wouldn't see them but you would still cover yourself.
True!
Wow you're amazing at videos. Dankpods has competition!
Wow I don't know about that 😂 Thank you!!
you need to get two of these next to eachother, and splice the video together, and then youd have a makeshift vr 180 video!
So a camera that outputs an Analog RF signal..
OOh. This kind of thing gives me ideas. What if you could swap lenses on 'em? Especially that FPV camera.
That's not a bad idea!
Nice Grip case!
Yeah!!
That FPV drone camera output a better (less noisy) composite signal than my N64 back then lol.
Hey, what's the link to the fpv camera? i noticed that in the description the car backup cam is pasted twice.
I fixed the links thanks for letting me lnow
I guessed the fpv one lol.. awesome video
Nice. Thank you!
Nice. Finally a channel that uses the full screen of my iPad. 4by3 subscribed 🙏
😂 yep! Thanks for the subscription!
look into foxeer and other FPV centered names in analog video. Foxeer has some really good cameras
Red and White are often used for sound
For a Raspberry Pi project, I discovered the other side of this coin: super cheap LCD panels with a composite cord hanging out the back.
Oh that's cool! Maybe I'll pick one up
nice vid!
Thank you!
What about looking into fpv dr9ne cameras? They are incredibly tiny and often have good quality as well as a lot of information on wiring due to the customization of the hobby. And theres still a lot of analog stuff including analog video transmision
Ahh good to know
Are some of the cameras sold out already? Sheesh the microphone one has such good picture, been thinking of making a makeshift ring cam setup
Yeah I can't find the microphone one anywhere. It looks like it disappeared off the face of the planet 😂
impressive, i was thinking #2 would be the drone cam
subbed for the aspect ratio
😂 hey thanks for the sub!
You can get like 1200tvl "semi hd" analog Fpv cams cheap as well as wireless transmitting capabilities pretty cheap. $10 cams $30 wireless receiver, $10 transmitter.
Banggood has all you need.
How times change... Back in my day, last week, they were all random five letter brand names...
i found a black and white analog security camera in a trash pile, it looks so cool
i love watching videos like this and not understanding a single thing
Good video
Top notch. Brilliant hacking with much common sense. Well done.
Thank you!
Just started watching but the but rearview backups lines in your thumbnail remind me of something I tried last weekend. It was the only analog camera I had, but I was trying to do analog video feedback. The lines ruined it; but it's cool how small they are. If mine was a better unit I might consider wiring it into the car.
If the camera you have has the little wires like the one in this video that you can cut them to get rid of the lines. They're actually really good for video feedback. The quality makes everything look either like watercolors or liquid once it starts feedbacking a lot but you have to turn down the brightness really low of whatever you're pointing it at.
A lot of these cameras are actually 5 volts, but they use a (linear , most likely) voltage regulator inside the cable's "lump". It gets hot after some time of running the camera.
Also CMOS and CCD are the image sensor's technology, not the circuitry around it. They're different types of sensors with different imagine qualities, nothing to do with boot up time.
Interesting! I noticed it gets hot. Yeah, I was just thinking a CMOS might take a little more time for the required circuitry to initialize or whatever.. I'm basing that off nothing though just a thought 😂
fish eye + kinda ok NTSC video... Some absolutely sick skate vids could be filmed on these.
That's what I was thinking!
i have the same cooler fan as you lmao, keep up the great work love your content
Let's go! Thank you!
Look at fpv cameras. Runcam, caddx, betafpv m03
just recently(like 2 hours ago) watched your videos, sorry if its unrelated but your voices changes by a lot!
I know! It's weird going back and listening
I have a $75 analog fpv drone camera that looks really good and has good enough low light capabilities that I can fly at night with only the moon illuminating everything
Wow. That's awesome
i am now subscribbled
Hey thanks for the subscibbletion
cmos chips are small and most work just plug i2c via usb.
if want smaller
Bet they're all CMOS, CCD is likely a lie.
If you manage to open them up, often straps (configuration bridges/resistors) can be found inside, which switch PAL/NTSC, mirroring, and parking lines overlay.
Interesting
@@SimonVideo this word has been tainted by Melon Husk.
Look for drone analog cameras they same size but some have really good quality
analog so cool
I like camera 2 the most
How is it analog if it's not on film?
This is analog in the sense that the signal is raw luminance and chrominance and can be stored on magnetic tape as raw analog data. Basically it's just not 1s and 0s
I didn’t even think these exist.
One of the smallest very high quality seft contained cameras is in your mobile phone
Okay but that defeats the whole point of this haha
cam 3 is so good
I know!
Analog?
This video is lot 4:3
It looks awesome on foldables though, lol.
@@TuxraGamer Omg I never thought of that
@SimonVideo hahaha, yeah, there's like just around 100 pixels lost at the sides by adjusting with zoom!
Not too shabby
@@SimonVideo who has a foldable...
man you're so rich
kinda unrelated but i noticed that both of us have a glorius mouse, a keychron keyboard, and a pixel phone
No way 😂 Great minds think alike!
I have a glorious mouse and a keychron keyboard but I have an iPhone lol
@@SimonVideo lol thanky
9:43 people should start filming with these one if they wan to give a 90's feeling on their videos instead of using disgusting filter on adobe.
Wire the backup camera to the brake light? NO you wire it to the backup lights otherwise it will only come on when you hit the brakes.
Oh did I say break light? 😂 Good catch!
FPV cameras..... they usually have a range of 5- 20v and very small latency times. and have bulk settings option. ie pal/ntsc, wdr, contrast and all that good stuff. but get a decent brand like runcam or caddx. also the starlight sensor options. for night use. and up too 1500tvl and usually about 150 to 170 degress fov
the eachine cheapo fpv camera u used here is very laggy. and has poor image quality compared to a runcam swift. caddx ratel is currently the best fpv analogue camera.
hey my name is also simon
Let's go!
God I love 4:3 video
For real
Low res but not unimpressive.
Isn't "analogue" video just film?
Yeah, in this case analog refers to the type of signal. This one has raw luminance data and all that instead of 1s and 0s.
@@SimonVideo Cool. This isn't a familiar area for me. I just searched and was reading about it. Nice that the algorithm dropped this video into my feed. I've been watching a lot of video/electronics content lately.
Its no future if theres "cables" being involve. Its no future invention if vehicles still operate on 4 rubber tires.
Hey Simon, this is from PCBWay. We appreciate your work being done and would like to discuss the possibility of doing something fun together. Any chance we can have a talk?
I'm early.
Sweet! I found a channel that talks about stuff i like! 🤩 consider me subscribed! 🙏🙇♂️
Yayy! Thanks for subscribing!
simple answer... no...because you cant find one that actually works
