As a Niner fan, the 2009 Cardinals vs Steelers was one of the most incredible games I've ever seen. That game had EVERYTHING: Comebacks, explosive plays, defensive scores, controversial TDs, it was an all out SLUGFEST from start to finish. It wasn't a good half, or even a legendary comeback, it was an entire GAME. As a fan of the sport, anyone watching that one has to recognize the level of play in that game, and for it to be in a Super Bowl just elevates it even more in my book. Again, outside my own personal biased 49ers favorites, that game sticks out to me as the best one I've seen as a FOOTBALL fan. Epic battle both ways..

    • @thomasc.5219
      @thomasc.5219 Před 5 lety +13

Yeah for sure. I think only reason it's not is cause the Bill's didn't end up winning. But you are right it was a great game. Idk if anybody else feels the same but to me football just hasn't been the same since 2009. Everything just seems too flashy anymore. Offense rules the game. I miss those 80s and 90s era games where it was hard nose, hardcore defenses. Touchdowns just seemed to mean more if that makes sense, it's hard for me to explain. It just seems like nowadays it's more about fantasy football and shootout type games. Yeah I know there were offensive giants in those eras but there were only a couple a year. Now it seems like over half the QBs have no problem throwing for 4000 plus yards every year. Getting 1200 yard receiving was a great year, now that's pretty much the standard and it used to be a great accomplishment to have 2 wr do it same year. Not anymore. I miss seeing those stud running backs. Running it right up the middle. Grinding for every yard. There are a handful these days but you dont see those 35-40 rushing attempts by a single back running behind a great fullback. Now most teams use 2 if not 3 and they all have a job. Your powerback, your speedy outside man and reciever/3rd down back. Idk the game just isn't the same. I know times change but it just doesn't seem like the heart of the sport isn't there. Players are so cocky and only care about their fantasy stats. Not caring about what can help team unless it involves them. So many divas. QBs lack overall skill across the league, its top heavy with the elite but then you have a couple good game managers but then huge dropoff in talent. Running backs outside the elite seem a dime a dozen. Very few strong possession receivers that aren't afraid to run across the middle and take out a safety with a strong catch. And dont even get me started on defenses. I know the rules favor offense but God, defense just seems soft. Defensive coordinators seem to not have any idea how to coach simple schemes. I sound like a bitter old man but I'm not haha I'm only 30 and like I said the game doesn't have the heart it once did. Sorry for rant

The Epic in Miami had pretty much everything. A great comeback, a trick play to score a TD at the end of the first half, great performances by both QBs (one a HOFer, the other a career backup). It had a classic performance by a HOF tight end. Despite great offense from both sides, there were big plays made on defense and special teams. If you were a fan of other team, there were so many “we got this game wrapped up” moments which then turned out not to be the case.
San Diego goes up 24-0 early on and SD fans probably figure they’ve got this one. Then Miami comes back, with their backup QB Don Strock to tie it at 24, which includes that great hook-and-ladder play of Strock to Harris to Nathan at the end of the first half.
Then it looks over for San Diego as Miami goes up 38-31 with about 5 minutes left in the 4th quarter, and has the ball deep in Charger territory. San Diego is able to force a fumble and drives down and ties the game up with about a minute left, as James Brooks ran the baseline in the end zone and caught an overthrown pass intended for Winslow. It wasn’t his job, brooks just did it instinctively.
The chargers squib kick it and Miami gets good field position. San Diego intercepts a Strock pass at midfield but fumbles it a split second later (it would be incomplete nowadays), so Miami keeps driving. Now it looks like Miami is still going to win, as they get in field goal range. At the end of regulation, the kick is short as Winslow manages to get just enough of the ball to mess up its projection. The commentators couldn’t even tell it was partially blocked.
San Diego gets the ball in OT and looks like they have it wrapped up now as they get inside the 15 yard line, as Winslow kills them on this drive. But Rolf “Family Feud” Berinschke misses a chip shot.
Miami drives down and looks like they have it won as they get inside the Chargers 20. But this kick is blocked by Leroy Jones.
San Diego drives down and finally a field goal is made on the 4th try between the two teams to win the game.
This should be #1, or at least top 3.
New England’s win over Atlanta probably wasn’t even the best SB they were in. It was the better comeback, but the win over Seattle was more exciting.

Harry Engel the Drive game shouldn’t be that high. The game is rather overrated and both teams have been in better playoff games.
The next year’s AFC championship game between the same 2 teams was a more exciting game. Denver going up big, 21-3 and 28-10, and Cleveland inching their way back in. Byner was the main reason the browns were even back in position to tie as he making countless big plays catching and running, and finished with almost 190 yards from scrimmage. There were a lot of big plays from both sides, and Castile doesn’t get near enough credit for making a great defensive play. It’s always remembered as “The Fumble” and i bet most people don’t even remember the name of the guy making the strip.
I also like the Drive 2 better than the Drive. Houston had a 15 point line early on but did what those Oilers team always did in those playoffs. Blow leads. On the final drive, Elway did an amazing job at helping Denver convert on both 4th and 6 and 4th and 10. And the FG was extra nerve wrecking if you were a broncos fan, the snap again was shaky. A bad snap earlier was the reason why Denver was behind 1 instead of tied.
The Marathon at the Lake, the week before The Drive, was another classic. Cleveland looked dead in the water with about 4-5 minutes left, down 10, and Mark Gastineau certainly did his part to help hurt his team with the roughing the passer penalty on that 3rd down.

Eagles vs Patriots should be on this list. A dynasty vs an underdog. The QB with the most Super Bowl wins and the QB who considered retiring a year prior. A back and forth game that came down to the wire, with late touchdowns and a Hail Mary on the last play. One punt the entire game. One sack that was the biggest play of the game. Tell me that isn’t an amazing game.

Thank you!! The NFL needs to realize that there is a major difference between an amazing comeback and an amazing game. Just because a game has a great comeback doesn't mean it's a great game. With Super Bowl 52, it was back and forth all game, the intensity was high all game, there were memorable moments, and there was drama until the very end.

I agree that SB 52 should be on the list over 51 (SB 51 is extremely overrated) but if we have to put a Patriots SB win on this list 49 deserves to be on over 51 due to the back and forth nature of the game and the shocking ending.

SB 51 is too high. Great comeback by the Pats. But the guy who said "this wasnt a historic Falcon meltdown, it was just great Patriot execution..." That could be the most ridiculous comment Ive ever heard on these. Of course it was almost flawless Patriot execution,& proved why Brady is GOAT,& Bellichek is the coaching version. Patriots have nothing to apologize for, they did what had to be done.
But Atlanta completely choked that game away. Kyle Shannahans play calling, Matt Ryan, the Falcon defense all made multiple egregious mistakes. I'm probably forgetting some as well. It doesn't take anything away from the Patriots, that what great teams do...keep fighting,& capitalize on the opposition's mistakes. I have no dog in this fight, I'm a Bronco fan. But while you must give full credit to NE, ya also gotta recognize Atlanta froze up, & mention how they helped the Patriots a lot. You almost can't have a 25 pt 3rd qtr comeback, without help from the team ahead. Same thing with the Bills comeback from 35-3 in that Wild card round. As an Oiler fan, no doubt that the greatest Comeback of all time should be on here, when the Bills came back in the playoffs against the Oilers after being down 35-3 early in the 3rd quarter, and with a backup QB at that....

Yeah it absolutely belongs on this list. If they weren't gonna include at least one regular season game then the title of the video should just be top 10 playoff games of all time.

I LOVE ME SOME DEFENSE!!! In 1990, week 12, you had a Monday Night game between the 2 time defending Super Bowl Champ 49ers w/Lott & Haley on one side, LT and Carl Banks on the other and it was 3-and-out punt over and over for a 7 to 3 final score.

1974 divisional playoff between Oakland and Miami. Hands of Stone Clarence Davis denies Dolphins quest for 3rd straight Super Bowl title. A must somewhere on this list

The Catch game is not on this list? It's known by a phrase and it launched the beginning of the 49ers dynasty of the 80's, the beginning of the Cowboys slide in the same era, and also launched the legend of Joe Montana, arguably the best SB quarterback in NFL history not named Tom Brady. The "catch" by Dwight Clark is one of the most iconic moments in NFL history. Incredible!

If a team choking makes a game bad then half the games on this list don't belong here

For the first 74 years of the NFL there was no 2 point conversions, only in College Football. Just think, if SB 51 was played when there was no 2 pt conversions Atlanta wins SB 51 and instead of hearing about a so called come back, we're hearing about how Brady's PICK 6 cost them the game.

Superbowl 52 was a glorified, well played pro bowl. An arena league game. Cooks was disoriented, the rest of that game looked like a Texas tech spring scrimmage.

Saints @ 49ers 2011 NFC Divisional Playoff game is the best I've ever seen by far. It was so unlikely that Alex Smith could lead a comeback after Brees got the upper hand in a crazy blowout turned shootout. But it actually happened, not to mention Vernon Davis makes "The Catch 3" and weeps on the sideline. I think people forget it because the Giants would go on to the Superbowl that year after a controversial NFC Championship game against the 49ers... Which if you go back and watch the Niners should have won. Yes, Alex Smith should have played in the Super Bowl against Tom Brady, but I digress. Saints vs Niners, best game ever.
