    I don't remember the rain, though there are some brollies visible in some of my photos. I was working on site at the time, so saw a lot of the preparations. It is always impressive to see a low loader, complete with a huge steam loco, being reversed dead straight for 200m, ending up correctly positioned on the traverser, I was also early in the queue for tickets (and parking!) for a full car load.
    It's the only time I've seen an A4 relegated to the second rank in a display of engines.
    I remember the organisers harassing Railtrack to get them to write off the track access fees for visiting locos as a donation to the charities.
    A couple of years later the rails where the Crewe Pacifics had stood were sold for scrap.
    I must get a video of my stuff together.

    It would have been nice to see every AVAILABLE class of diesel and electric locomotive, all lined up, from left to right, along the tracks on the traverser. W😲W.!
