  • This is a short video showing the Shuttleworth Collection's 1923 Leyland SG7 "White Rose" being started and its engine running. The White Rose is one of three vintage busses in the Shuttleworth collection, which all provide rides to the public on special event and air show days. For more details visit www.shuttleworth.org

These vintage buses are the great times before rear engine flat nose buses were introduced in the mid 30’s

Must be hideous to drive but such fun for a couple of hours.

Yes the busses can be a challenge to drive but a real privilege too! The White Rose is particularly difficult. Apart from a cramped driver's space, the engine shares the cab with the driver so on a warm day it's like sitting in a sauna!

@@PPPE1957 AEC Militant MK2 were deafening to chugg along at 31 mph max governed speed and no power assisted steering but great fun to drive. At least we did not have to climb and squeeze past levers to get to the seat.
I have taught people to drive vintage busses but never one of that generation.
Perhaps I will be lucky enough to come and see it in action one day. The sound, the smell, a true experience.
