  • We spent a week panning for gold at Lynx Creek Recreation Area in the Prescott National Forest, Arizona. This area is open to the public to pan for gold with hand tools or a metal detector. You cannot use a sluice box or any motorized gold mining equipment. This area has been set aside to no one can file a mining claim in the designated recreation area. We parked our motorhome at the corner of Walker Road and Bannie Mine Road and hiked 1/4 of a mile down a dirt road to Lynx Creek. We used a shovel, a 5 gallon bucket, a soil classifier, a sniffer bottle and a pan to find gold. In the end we successfully found gold flakes in nearly ever pan.
