The best part about this car is that, compared to rivals, it has a more old school/ analog charm. Axing the manual is a tragic mistake.
How does it have a "more analog " charm?
@@Spiritcr1jsher Well, for one, the fact that the platform is over 2 decades old helps with that, especially compared to the new BMW that is the Supra… Also, I have driven previous “generations” and since I haven’t driven a new Z yet, I base some of my opinion on what a lot of the automotive journalists (that I tend to agree with about cars I have driven) say about driving it.
That price AND no stick? What the heck is Nissan thinking?
The NISMO edition is always nice....
Not $22,000 more than the base model nice😂
@@JDMHaze yeah....😅
@@JDMHazespecially when a lot seems to have carried over from the last gen Z
Not when it's auto only either. It's a lap time chaser (at the cost of being more fun/engaging to drive) and yet isn't as fast as any of the other sports cars in it's price range, most of which still have a manual option.
@@Dolby109 right....I see what your saying
Nice, understated trim. Powerful, retro, and not bad.
No manual? Nah bro
Doesn't the standard Z come with a manual? What prompted them to not offer one here?
Statistically speaking, not many buy them. Obviously, alot of us do. But your average normie who wants something like this is gonna want an automatic. It sucks, but it is true.
@@stoneylonesome4062 I don't believe it. Look at the supra. They brought it to play after there was a high demand.
It’s faster than the manual, I imagine that’s a big reason.
The existing manual probably can't handle the increased engine torque without a redesign
@@CyFi6that's what I've heard too, though the torque isn't increased very much really.
Seems like a great option. Price is a little unfortunate
I’d happily pay $70k for this car, overpriced, I know, but I don’t care.
All cars are overpriced anyways
I couldn't agree more too much for a Nissan Z its unfortunate. An automatic naw! all my cars are stick shift my as well get an older Z06.
This is a really nice car at $55k but for $66k its more expensive than the supra, M2 and Dark horse. Not to mention its knocking on the door of the c8, Cayman and RC-F/is500. You're telling me all I get for 25k over the base car is some cosmetics, suspension, seats and 20 more HP and its still going to lose a drag with everything listed above? Come on Nissan WTF is this pricing?
Damn! What a Bummer! No manual?! Otherwise gorgeous car!
It looks awesome.
That matte yellow looks good.
At $66k, this thing is guaranteed to sit on dealer lots as is, not to mention the massive dealer markup thatll be tacked on. Hard pass. Just buy a 370. It offers a MANUAL transmission, and less stupid screens to deal with.
That price 66k (realistically 70+ street price) to performance ratio is way off. BMW, Chevy, Toyota, and Lexus all offer more, and with a standard transmission option.
THIS IS WORTH EVERY PENNY
Everyone talks about performance when comparing cars, but as soon as someone says that the auto is better because it's faster, then it's not about performance anymore
What was 0 to 60 and quarter-mile times?
No manual transmission Nismo? I cant afford this anyway but this ridiculous. Even I still like to step and shift. I suppose I will wait for the MT Nismo Versa.
As much as I like it (and I love it), I’d probably get a mustang instead. This is an amazing vehicle. But I’m looking at value for the money. (Plus: no manual).
I haven't seen one of these on the street. Do they really sell them? This is December 2023.
I love mine 🎉
Upshofts might be smooth, but there’s about a 1/2 second pause in-between you flipping the paddle and it actually shifting. Not a fan.
👏👏👏GREG
I wish Greg was my Dad
How tall are you? Do you fit ok ? Comfortable ?
They need to bring back the classic format for testing. I don't need a 5 minute monolouge from this guy.
I know everyone here bashing and trashing Nissan to not have the manual transmission Z Nismo. But I think it's N's marketing strategy, a smart one. They wait until next week, after getting your attention and your frustration this year, to release the manual version. By then you or we all will be eager to get it and not pay attention that the price tag is up north 60k something.
So your big-brain strategy is to spend money manufacturing cars no one wants to buy, when you could instead spend the same money building cars people will buy, to motivate people to buy the car you could've made from the start...
The normal Z was already overpriced and this is just ridiculous
WORTH EVERY PENNY
@@allentoyokawa9068 nah lol thats Cayman money and thats a fantastic car
@@tangodrizzlethis has better performance than a base cayman. And it doesn't come with a dumb flat 4
@@IScoreUnderPressure4 the Z has 700lbs on the cayman. Its got a little motor but its stout. And if youre concern is straight line speed then just get a base z and supe it up. A base Cayman would make that Nismo sweat on track while being the better daily and better built vehicle
@@tangodrizzle yes its better built and the steering definitely would feel better because it's a porsche, but I think the dunlops and the stiffer suspension would make this car a good competitor for the cayman and might actually beat it on a bigger track
I like it, but honestly a cheaper base model but with the LSD would probably be most interesting of all...
65k lmao, i remember when the GTR new was 69k in 2008. This is asinine.
69K in 2008 is like 110K in 2023 with inflation.
If it wasn't already too expensive (in Camaro ZL1 territory price wise, and likely can't match the SS 1LE on track), the lack of manual is a complete deal killer here.
Even if you want an automatic, what single objective reason is there to buy this over a C8 Corvette?
Or a bmw m2 , mustang dark horse , mach 1 , supra... list goes on
no 0-60 or 1/4 mile blast? who are you and what have you done with Mr. Davis?
this is a first drive not a road test
Greg has been working at MotorWeek for a decade and we don't do performance testing on First Drives...
MANUAL NEEDS TO BE AN OPTION HELLOOOO?
A big thumb down. 66k is basicly a c8 Corvette. Nissan's last days are here.
Coincidentally, it was largely the C4 Corvette that killed the 300ZX TT, again due to noncompetitive pricing.
Tell me where you get a C8 66k? It’s impossible nowadays
@@jz7551 exactly, it's going to be 80k+.
@@kevindavis5966except the z32 was actually on par for what you paid for against a c4. Now this company is striving for mediocrity and calling it a day. Pathetic.
@@gabrielriley2388well to be fair, the base c8 is a steal. Especially considering that car prices are extremely inflated right now
No manual transmission, why not?😢
I think Nissan dealers know that people who buy the Z won't keep it past its short lease or will trade them in within 2-3 years because it's not very practical and fills a niche market. Automatics are easier to resell than manuals are. Corporate Nissan took note of this.
Last z on the dealers lot was a 2 year leftover 😅
66 grand no way I'm paying a little extra for The CT5 blackwing or Camaro ZL1 😊
Yes, but...the CT5 V Blackwing is now like $100k.
The ZL1 is still close in price, as is the CT4 V Blackwing.
I'm strongly considering one of those in manual as my next car.
Just looked at one at my local dealer. Theirs is priced at $79k
❤
I had to put my readers on to see if I clicked on the Subaru BRZ review by accident. Had 2 older ones including a 1990 Twin turbo with light mods. You can keep this one.. no thanks. Sure it’s $70K to boot
I have tried to buy a 2024 Nismo today and unfortunately Nissan is selling their cars through chiselers.
After being quoted $68,500.00 for the car by a Nissan dealers salesperson, I agreed to buy the car.
Two hours later I get a communication from the chiseler/dealer saying there is $10k up charge being applied to the agreed upon price.
Shame on Nissan for allowing such dishonorable sales practices. I have owned a Datsun 240z and 260z and was really excited about the new Z, but now "to be honest" I could not be more disappointed by this business practice, allowed by Nissan.
C'mon Nissan. You know the Nismo-spec should be the base Z-car.
No manual transmission option is a buzzkill
"Hey, let's make a racing version of the Z... but let's take the racing transmission out of it."
Hey, it's 2023
actually it is a racing transmission the 6 speed would be slower.
lol😂😂
@@scott8238 Tell me you've never tracked a manual car (or probably ANY car) without telling me.
@@kevindavis5966 I own a 2019 Z sport with a 6 speed manual the 7 speed auto is quicker on a track than mine.
This is the car that deserves a manual, even if it's slower. Why not offer it?
Manual seats, automatic transmission, fail
For weight savings and the auto is quicker than Nissan's manual. It's proven especially around a track but yes from a old school/heritage perspective offer the manual!
@@mr.hondamods it is called driving enjoyment, we're not talking about laptimes. This is not a race car. I doubt the automatic is lighter
You adjust your seat once. Manual seats are just fine. Such a stupid complain.
@@mr.hondamods 'Weight savings' while weighing more than the base 😂 'Cost savings' might be a more plausible reason. Not giving you shade, btw, just Nissan's marketing.
@@WhatisaLeehave you ever seen automatic adjustable Recaros? Because I haven't
Having owned a 240Z, 350Z, and a Nismo 370Z I’m disappointed with the new Z. Especially the price. The base car is overpriced, but this is ridiculous. Nissan is so out of touch with this car. Do you know what you can get for $66K?
I have a 2011 Z with bolt ons and a tune but I'm pretty sure in a drag race, this Z would outrun mine. If I were to opt for $8,500 for a 500WHP Z1 supercharger, I'd be blowing past a $70,000 Nismo. Nice car, but 20K more than the base with only 20HP/34Torque more? I'm finding low mileage relatively new 370s in the $20ish K range. I'd rather track one of those than an approaching $100,000 car...
Umm okay ? you're argument could be said about many other makes and models...just be happy this thing exists!!
right everyone feels the need to have a war between cars smh@@scott8238
You're missing a huge factor, Red Sport already can make 700hp on stock internals. This Z can make HUGE power with little modification. If you buy the Z1 kit and everything needed plus installation you're look at about 15k in mods. No way a Z34 is making the kind of power this car does. The biggest problem is the internals of the VQ. The stock Z not even Nismo model with a tune/tires runs an 11 flat in quarter mile. I've seen guys dump 20k in there VQ and barely hit low 12's. Still love both but this motor is superior for making power safely.
@rx7sign Then you have a 60k car with no warranty just to still be slower than a bmw , ford mustang, camaro or supra.....
@@Spiritcr1jsher not true at all
Just read the bullet points....ok yeah my fare lady or something. Sure whatever, if you say so. I hear they have an open bar at this thing.
Ummmm where is Mr.Davis?!
Here in Southern California. They mark up to $155+k. Not sure who’s telling truth. Lol😅
Nice upgrade, but needs the manual trans.
Who these people build these cars for ? Must for their elementary school kids, how come no Manulife
That's gonna be the biggest downfall, no manual transmission in the Nismo Z and less hope its not a raggedy CVT. Toyota Supra GR has a manual and I think the base model do to.
You’re living under a rock, pal
No manual, not interested, not even in watching the rest of this video.
I bet this will out handle the supra, M2 and Mustang when all optioned the same.
How much would you bet?
The flashing at the start is not very cash money of u
Glad someone else noticed. A photosensitivity warning would've been nice
Auto only in a car like this is an insult.
Nissan is going to regret not offering a manual transmission for the highest performance model of Z car..😑
They should of dropped the GTR motor in it!
No manual means its a no go for me.
What? No manual? Big mistake!
No manual transmission. Ridiculous.
Amen
Nissan said if more people keep whining about it just like you are then they might make the manual version.
@@jz7551 I hope so.
I dunno, I think people complain a little too much about not having it. You get better performance out of automatics these days, and they can be a heck of a lot more convenient and efficient.
@cessnafun5385 it's about enjoying the vehicle. Everyone jumps to being quicker when less than one percent of a vehicles life is used for racing. And this is an average of vehicles specifically bought with racing in mind. (Street vehicles)
This Nismo with the Auto.. you know why?? The reviewer is driving it with his thumbs out sideways on the face of the steering wheel.. !! They won't sell the manual. Us manual guys.. by the performance model and mod it.. like a true car race guy would do..
Another car with that annoying push button gear selector. Analog gauges are gone too (except for the 3 small center dash gauges). I long for the day automakers go back to analog needles, which will probably never happen.
3 radiator caps, all the same cap.
No manual no sale....
They made head wind by having a Stick Shift vs the Mark 5 Supra! But now the Nismo Version has no Stick Shift 🤷🤦🥴! Nissan went Backwards with this model🤷🤦! SMH ughhh 😖
$66k! O.o
Overpriced warmed over 370.
Nissan just always seem to not be able to get it together, no manual option equals failed!!
Its nismo no z in nismo
no manual = no purchase
So it's Not a Dual Clutch? Lol. Along with it looking like an older TC. It looks heavy and boring.
Renault....the one to watch.
Nissan could rename this car as the 400Z Nismo
No, 420Z. It is 420 hp now 😂😂😂😂
Lost me at no manual. Could care less about it now.
Rather a M340 for that price and get the performance and luxury.
manufacturers can't win these days when it comes to cars people are passionate/nostalgic about. I'd bet money that if it came in manual, it'd get slammed for being slower than the base auto.. Let's face it, despite everyone kicking up about no manual and involvement, many if not most of these probably won't see the track in a big way and if they came out with a manual now, well, there's a reason why the supra took a while to come out in manual. Being quicker on the track won't hide the fact that it would be slower than the base when it comes to the reviews.
Supposedly the tuned autobox is as quick as the aging GTR's dual clutcher too (would love to know if true?) from vids like these it seems pretty accomoplished
It's more testament to how good autos are now and how fickle car fans are (myself included at times!). Me personally, don't feel that involved with a modern car even with a six speed so would rather go faster. tbh I'm more disappointed that we only get black interiors
Look at the Civic Si, manual only, and it got trashed by the gen-z media for not offering an auto.
@@oldtwinsna8347Actually, it didn't. That is why it is still popular
No Manual and only 20hp. What a FAIL!!! They can keep it.
Manual or automatic stop complaining and just be happy well still these kind cars on the . The future looks grim with the CUV SUV and 100k trucks and Jeeps . I’ll take an affordable sports car any day over what’s to come. EVs are coming to get you Barbara 😜
Be careful with that intro, might give someone seizures 😓
Poor format on this, original is far better. Only really interested in the Z because the Toyota is a BMW
a nismo with No manual?? wtf is it a nismo for then ??, a makeup kit??
The Nismo GT-R is auto, this is nothing new.
@@xwarped83 yeah, but the GTR is a super car, and uses a dual clutch as I recall ,, Not a recycled 9 speed

What the hell is wrong with Nisaan anymore, who wants a sports car with a 9 speed automatic? Stupid choice.
Why the fudge do carmakers continue to offer "sportscars" with no manual transmission? Do car buyers even know what a sportscar is supposed to be anymore? You're not an F1 driver. Save the manuals.
Will sell like hotcakes

Meh….
Your reviews are so boring. Typical of this younger generation. It’s hard to watch Motorweek now, show some acceleration tests, braking test!!!
This is a First Drive, meant for our first impressions of the vehicle. We have only ever done performance testing on our full Road Test reviews, which we hope to do with the Z NISMO when we have access to a vehicle in Maryland.
Typical of this older generation. Jumping at the first chance to bit*h about something without fully understanding it.
It's a first drive not a test drive. I am sure there will be a road test coming soon.
That's one ugly car
Probably a very unpopular opinion
