Greeting Card Sound Player Module

Transcript:
It’s time for another Cool Tool review. This is a greeting card sound module. There are a bunch of dirt cheap ones out there, but this fancy one cost me $9 on Amazon. It’s a straightforward way to add sound to your project.
Sometimes, you’re making a thing, and you want it to make a sound when it’s pressed, or turned or opened. And you’d think that would be an easy thing to do, but it can get surprisingly complicated and expensive to pull off.
One way to keep it simple is this pre-wired sound player module. It comes with a speaker and a button already wired up, plus wires to connect up jack for a 5v power adapter. Or, you can also do what I did and wire up a 3.7 volt rechargeable LiPo battery or 18650 battery to the 3.7v connections here.
Now, there are a lot of cheap, voice recorder modules out there, and I plan on doing a separate video on why those are great, but what I like most about this board is that you have a micro USB connection where you can load up your own MP3 file.
The board shows up on your computer like a thumb drive. Mine came with a little song already loaded on it. Delete the demo file and load up your own, and you now have a button-triggered sound effect that you can fit into your project.
You only get 4MB of room on here, though. So if you want a long sound, like a song, you’ll need to lower the bitrate way down in a program like Audacity. I’ve done it, though, and it works.
Another upshot of the USB port is that you can use it to recharge the battery you have wired up to the 3.7v side. So if you keep this USB port exposed on your project, or extend it to the outside with a panel mount extension cable, you can both recharge your project and reload your sound file.
What I also like about this solution is that it’s easy to hack what’s here. If you want to change the speaker, you just cut the old one off and use the same wires to connect a bigger one. If you want to use an arcade button or tilt switch instead of the included one? Just chop it and replace it. You don’t have to read a schematic or decipher the circuit board labels, just upgrade what’s already wired up.
That said, if you are down for some more intense hacking, a photo on Amazon which I’ll also post on Maker Project Lab, shows all the different modes and options.
You can wire in a photoresistor to make this light sensitive. You can short out some of these resistors over here for different playback modes. You can adjust the volume with this tiny potentiometer. There’s a lot you can do.
My plan is to use this to add a custom horn sound for my go kart, but there are a lot of possibilities here, and I’ll probably order another one up just to have on hand.
That’s a look at this $9 sound module. You can pick one up using the included link. And remember, you can find thousands of reader recommended tools like this at Cool-Tools.org

This was finally what I was looking for after hours and hours of searching thank you. I am trying to build my own custom full size xbox fridge and have it play the xbox sound when opened like the real one this won't be easy but this video certainly helped.
Did you finish it?
Did you finish it ?
DID YOU FINISH IT?
DID. YOU. FINISH. IT!?!?!?
@@chocolat768 To be honest I never started it. I might do it in the future as a cool little project. But no.
Followed from maker update and ordered one of these. Adding sound to “anything” is a nice trick to have up my sleeve.
Lovely! I have a huge nostalgic place in my heart for old flower shop laser door chimes.Have been wanting to learn the basics of making such things.
This was extremely helpful! Addressed exactly what I wanted to know (arcade button). Thank you!
Wow a video thats easy to understand and strait to the point, rare. Thanks for the info!
This is so helpful! Never thought I'd find something but here it is thankyou
Thank you so much for this video, i have been doing this with much more expensive systems!
Pretty simply and intuitive! This seems liek something I might need!
Is it possible to add multiple audio files and shuffle through to choose which one to play?
I am extremely grateful for this video Sir.
I was looking for something exactly like this. 🙂🙏🏻
Thank you 🙂🙏🏻
Absolutely amazing, I bought a little Chinese toy gun and I’m looking forward to programming it to make some other more funny sounds. It’s also my first time doing anything like this and this can be a cool learning experience!
Is it possible to make it play multiple sound files, like a different one each time you press the button? Thanks
Generally yeah, they're used in kid's toys. I'm only actually here because I want to change the sound chip in a bowser themed playset to ambience noise instead of the growling
I can put it on wall with win sound to press after i go to bath shiet ?
TY !
Press win sound after i take a shit ?
Great idea! Plan to add some ambient sounds to my model railroad, so considering this. Will just have to see what 4MB will give me, ideally would like to loop the sound so not sure if that's doable.
Keep up the good work I'm trying to use something for a clock
Hey, I am super excited to make my own audio project, using this tip. Do you have a similar video and product recommendation that I can follow to transfer a 30-second audio-video clip to, so that the grandparents can press a button and see/hear the message?
I'm interested in this stuff but pretty new at it; any ideas for how I can replace the button with a way to detect an object opening, such as a drawer? I'm sure I can just snip the cables and attach them to some replacement for the button, but I'm not sure what - magnets of some sort?
This would be an amazing upgrade to my Knight Rider talking KITT!!!
Love this
Cool sounds
That was pretty informative. Thank guy
Thinking of getting something like this but the model that has the two rechargeable lithium 2032 cells and you upload an MP3 to it by USB since it mounts like a flash drive. My project as pointless as it sounds is to make a sound device that plays the intro music heard on the FX TV network website back in 2001: "are you Xperienced". I just found a copy of the music and a jpeg of it from back in the day.
Plus I can put music on it and play it through my stereo, going to be adding an audio out jack to it.
Great video! Can you please post a link to this sound card? Thank you!
Thank you very much for this video! This piece of equipment is what I was looking for while researching a project. I looked through the details on the amazon page, but I couldn't find out the answer to my question: can the sound be played one time when the button is released (rather than pressed)? My goal is, when the button is pressed down, it will not play. Thanks!
To see if it'll work for what I'm trying to do it it could be really cool if it did
Is there a way to add multiple sounds and be able to change them( switch to the next sound)?
Can you set it to play audio for a few seconds after the button is pressed and released, or do you have to constantly hold it in?
What about a custom pull string voicebox for a sheriff woody doll
I deleted the item that was on it and it still plays it. Is there something I am doing wrong?
Hi, quick question. How do you change the batteries? I have this music box (not a traditional one, one with this module in it) and it won't play well, I think it's because of the battery but they are in this metal casing that I can't get into...
can you play a repeating sound as long as you have your finger on the button, with this module?
If not, can you suggest a module with this function?
I’m a model railroader and I have been thinking about creating my own sound system, I thought about downloading an MP3 of a train whistle but I thought that if I press down the button and hold it the whistle sound will play for a second, I want it so that if I hold it down, it will play for as long as the button is pushed down. Any suggestions? Also can the module handle a few amps? Thanks
Do you have a video on how to change the Play modes, or can you make one?
Very cool, question can you replace the speaker's wires with an audio out jack out for recording into a mixer or something?
this is my question too...... anyone have the answer?
i know this is an old video but i have that exact same module is there a way to place multiple files and have a random one play on button press? currently it is playing one after another
Nice video. Do you know if there's a way to make the sound play continuously once the button is pressed? (until removed from power source)
The thing will come with a little or code manual scan it and there are many diffrent modes it can have just set it to the one where the sound will loop as the button is pressed and soder the button wires together and should do the trick.
Is it possible to add more buttons to make different sounds?
Hi I just saw your video and looked the product on amazon. It looks like they even have an option to have one to play on the loop. I would like to attach a bigger speaker and will attach it to a board for my project. I need a much louder option. What will you recommend? Thank you
Any suggestions to make a pull cord sound, like the pull cord on the Addams family to call for Lurch?
I’m trying to add sound to opening a lid or putting trash through a hole . I’m a vendor at a park and want to encourage kids to put their used cups in a bin I’m painting to look like a big plant or something fun for thing. Will this be durable enough or can you tell me what you recommend ? It is out in the weather and I do want it to stay working as best as I can.
Planning on doing a modern warfare cosplay specifically ghost on mission 1 with the breaching tool planning on adding the Bonk sound on the hammer cause why dapaq not right?
Also there hasn’t been much of tutorials on making custom voice boxes
Can you please please show how to hook up the battery so I can play my module🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I'd like to replace my old crappy door chime with something like this. Ideally I'd power it via a 4.5volt wall wart and then somehow get more volume. Do you think it is possible to add a mini amplifier to the arrangement? Then a larger speaker. Any hints on how to power a 12 volt amplifier and how to couple it to the sound module being the sound module has a lower voltage?
Bay the way how long the music or sound effect to play?
Can you connect it to a horn speaker? How much electric ohm does it support? Thanks very much.
im knew to this, how do you add the battery holder to the sound module ?
Could this work as a steam chuff sound board?
I wonder if this module draw any current from the battery when idling... I mean even in the pico amps... a birthday card doesn't as the thing simply disconnect the power when the card is closed and apply it back when it's open... and the player start playing when power is applied... I wonder if we can reporogram those epoxy potted modules...
How do you connect a photoresistor/light sensor to this board?
I am planning to make my own sound book for my kid, how many sounds can I store
Wish it had a micro sd slot to add multiple sounds.
Can I put more sound files on it?
Can I play many sounds at the same time?
If you changed the speaker to a 3.5 jack mic connection could you send the sound signlinto a computer, would that work?
I’m looking to make a pistol make sound. How would I get multiple shot sounds from the same button?
Is it possible to change the sound or even add a USB port if it's not on the chip?
I know this video is 3 years old but I hope you can answer a question I have, for this sound board do you think the button can be replaced with a momentary switch so that when its held down it plays but stops when not being pressed.
Thinking about adding sound to my Lego Infinity gauntlet, just installed a light kit for it today and I think it'd be epic if I wired the sound to the light switch
I have the same idea, can you share on how to connect the lights?
W
Does it support playing songs in a loop? Also, how loud is the sound?
Thanks for helping repair my pig
Good Project Broooooooo........
could I wire this the a car battery somehow to make it make a noise when I open my door?
anyone knows if it's possible to use a garden solar lamp as a source of power?
what is the maximum wattage of the speakers you can put there?
Great vid, thanks. I see that product is still available, but I was wondering if it can easily be set up to just loop the programmed sound when power is applied.
You have to short out the resisters.

@@rerhart585 Thank you so much for your response, that is totally something I can do. It’s for my screen accurate Flux Capacitor… eat your heart out 🤪
Can you , please create a video tutorial to show us ( if posible) to create one of these gadgets by ourself ? Please ?
Can I do this to my pc power button so when I turn on its chime like a Mac or SGI Indigo2?
Can this module cycle through different sounds? For example, I want to have 5 different audios for the project im working on. Will it play them in the order I upload them in?
Hi instead of a button switch can you just add a sensor in its place ? any help welcome .
thankyou I'm using the light sensor to make a music propsal box
could leds be added to this. And better still, could it be linked to a microcontroller?
Is there a way to attach this to a power outlet? I want to connect this to a night light so that it plays a sound when I turn it on, and a sound when I turn it off would that be possible with this device, or do you know a device that would be able to do that? Thanks!
Do you think you could replace the button with a motion
sensor
Is there anyway to make it to where it could play a few different sounds randomly everytime you press it?
Can you also connect the cables to a movement sensor, instead of a button? If yes, would you please link to a compatible sensor? Thanks a lot!
yes. yes you can!
@rounbe9884 how do you add multiple inputs
Great video. How best to short out the insulators on this module?
Just solder a short piece of wire across the pins.
Can u change the bluetooth amplifier module voice
The instructions seem unclear on how to set this up to repeat upon turning the switch on. Can anyone help me with this?
I see that it says in mine that there are different play modes involving “switches” but they aren’t switches. You said you can short those out. Can you explain that? The way I’m understating it is you have to unsolder the resistors but that breaks the circuit. And I don’t see wires coming through the board to unsolder them anyway. I want it set to 010 instead of the default 000.
Can anyone explain if I may attach a couple of LED lights to light up when it's triggered on? Is that possible?
*casually learns to make a portal Radio some point in the future*
Hi what if i want to make a project that require kids to step on something that has this thing installed. will this thing break easily?
Got this module put a 3 AA battery pack to the 5V section but and put a new button on the end but the button wires are to gound and PL are they in the wrong spot because its not working
Id like to send sound via speakers on surround sound receiver, Would this be possible? Any suggestions?
Hello! I’m making my own mini claw machine but I am wanting custom music for when I press the start button. I know NOTHING about programming or putting these types of things together. Just a mom whose trying to make something happen lol can this be done this way? I’m purchasing a kit that comes with premade music and lights . I’m wondering how I can disable that and plug one of these in instead. Any help from anyone would be great. Thanks!
Im looking to add sound to a toy. Specifically a light saber that plugs in. I would like it to play the on and off sounds when the unit is turned on and turned off. Do you have a guide to do this?
Been trying to figure out how to do this myself but have not found any definitive answers. Have you had any luck? Attempting to add a speaker with a single sound effect that I want to have play once right when the machine is turned on.
i purchased the same thing from amazon from your link and it doesnt seem to work out of the package!
Can someone help me make an engine VTech noise. I want to hook it up to my AirPod case.
Question, do you know of any module that will play 1 file upon a button press and another upon a button depress?
Trying to play two sound bites up9n the opening and closing of a lid.
I’m trying to figure out how to add something like this to a necklace locket but i feel everything i look at is too big.
Can you add multiple different noises?
Is it possible for me to take off sound bites from a circuit board and then download them to a different circuit board?
Hey!
Great vid, my question is, can the different buttons trigger different files on the device?
I actually had the same question, can you go through sounds on command rather than they all playing at one time?
Same question! I want to be able to get this to play a few different files, activated separately, but in order. Will this work?
Same question
Is it powerful enough to be used in conjunction with LEDs on the same circuit?
More than likely, since its switched but i couldn't tell you if the supplied power to the audi would keep it lit with audi playing or just flicker when pressed.
Obrigada
This was a helpful video, but where do you get the thing that holds the battery?
Here you go Sherry: 18650 Battery Case Holder with Lead Wire Bundle,8 Pcs DIY Battery Storage Boxes, 18650 Charging 1 Bay Cell Battery Holder, 1 Slots in Parallel Black Plastic Batteries Case with Pin www.amazon.com/dp/B08H8S84C5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_E74CVK4PTDKQMJ84DC7S
Can you add leds ?
Would ANYBODY know how to add in an LED to this for when the button is pressed it also lights up?? Need this for a project
Cool
Is there any way to attach a motion sensor to this?
