I remember when my flowerhorn got hexa. I hand fed him for a month through a syringe with metronidazole. Everyday i change the water for fifty percen and add some anti bacterial. It is such a desperate and tiring attempt to cure him. many told me it was crazy but i wont sleep at night if i just let him be when i know there are a lot of procedure i havent tried yet. He did not survive but at least i know i did everything i could.

Anyway I came too this video for affirmation that I'd done the right thing. When I read "bat crap crazy" it really made me laugh. That's exactly how the "peas thing" makes me feel too.
Hello Denise. So sorry to hear about your fantail. It is a tough decision to make even when it is the kindest decision. It's never easy. I've had swim bladder issues with a ranchu and a ryukin and no amount of peas or epsom salts on the planet were going to fix the fact they had a permanent physical condition. Thank goodness for people like Jennie who put out content to help us through. Take care.

I'm sorry for your loss. I am surprised to hear that some (many?) people think that dropsy is curable - everyone I communicate with on forums and such seems to think that once your fish begins to pinecone, it is really too late to do anything for them. You did the right thing for Sophie
Sorry for your loss. It must be harsh. My black moor suffered severe illness and I was 100% he was dying, after a lot of medication a miracle happened and now he's back to normal. I was so happy, I upgraded the tank to 80 gallons and got him a lot of company. Having said that, my other fancy died earlier this year because of bullying.

I'm so sorry to hear about Sophie. That's so sad and definitely one of the downers of keeping these beautiful fancy goldfish. You can do everything perfectly, yet their lifespan can still be very short. But seeing the babies you have was a nice pick me up.
Your babies are adorable! I am so sorry for your loss of Sophie. I just lost my second betta to dropsy three weeks ago (one week before his first birthday too). He actually had tumors cause swim bladder problems and ultimately caused his dropsy.
I hate how people act like fish are unimportant and like just flush their fish and are so chill about it. Fish are such cool creatures and the longer you have them the more attached you get. I love fish so much, and they are very important.

It would be great if you could make more content about disease prevention that you have learned, or that may not be common knowledge. On the fish forums, I always get the same answers: feed them pees, change the water, feed them less, feed them more veggies, ect. I always find the best information on your channel, and you would be a great resource to many.
Yep. If your fish was born with a damaged swim bladder then it can't be fixed. If you do have a fish where you accidentally damaged its swim bladder, then it can be fixed by putting a bit of salt into the water of a separate container then move the fish with the damaged swim bladder into the separate container. And like your case Jenny, i have also never experienced a fish being floaty due to being constipated :)

I'm not sure what to do with it, he/she has been getting larger from about June 2016 (9 months ago), but lately has appeared bloated for a few months. I did the 'suggested' pea thing, but now the poor fish is upside down and struggles to stay upright. I suspect more complex issues, and it's already over 3 years old, so I think their days are numbered. Looking forward to watching more of your video's, they are very helpful. Jeni

Sorry for your loss I have a common goldfish that's about 6 years old, he got a pretty bad case of Dropsy last summer. Mainly because I was always working and didn't really get a chance to do frequent water changes. I put him in a quarantine tank with epson salt and antibiotics for about two weeks, and he was cured. Maybe I was just lucky, idk but it worked for me.
Billy Esposito Sometimes dropsy is from kidney failure and there is nothing you can do. Yours most likely had an infection and was cured by the medication

When you started talking about the scales rising on your fish and that it was a sickness I got scared. Last night I noticed that betta's scales were raised and I am going to see if I can find a cure.

I ALMOST had my 2 yo black moor die this summer due to a fungus outbreak, but melafix cleared it up really fast. Hopefully they'll find a way for us caretakers to help our buddies, so it's not always inevitable death.

I know this is probably kinda late, but usually red veins on the fishes tail or gills is from too much ammonia in the water!
