Jim Banks looked like he was still in High School. It hadn't changed much when l was there a few years later. I remember Kerobokan Prison was in the middle of an isolated field and Canggu was just a little shelter where this guy made banana and honey jaffles and sold bottles of Fanta to anyone surfing there. The ride from Kuta had a few twists and turns and someone had painted white arrows on walls or kerbs at the intersections to show you the right way there. No fancy roads or signs back then. All part of it's charm.
