I am a Canadian and I am a very good person
After listening to all these people speak. I can tell you that family and community is number one. Human beings gravitate towards each other. So if they could bring that community with them to Canada they would be happy. All they want is security, peace and acceptance. No one is saying I want to be in Canada because of $$$$. It's the peaceful environment and ability to feel secure.
this is sad. 1+1 = 2 . These people and the contribution belongs to NIGERIA not canada. Canada allows people in because of it lowbirth rate. so you can work, pay taxes to support their older population.
CAPITALISM REQUIRES POPULATION to work.
5 people CANNOT keep the phone company door open. The bill will be thousands of dollars to per customers.
A mass population of immigrants move in, order cellphone service, shop at the stores, pay takes, keep rent prices going, keep the power company going, and steal Nigeria youth from Nigeria.
it a sick mentality in Nigeria. were everyone in the country is an expat waiting to leave. 100% of world breaking technology by Nigeria is given to other countries who calls Nigeria 'sh*thole countries".

I can’t live anywhere else. I will be the last person to leave Nigeria if we had just 2 persons left. I lived abroad and had bad episodes of Season affective disorder. By the grace of God I can’t relate with all this bad news except bad governance.

@@BernardineOrji I have lived in the UK for a very long time and one thing you learn is that apart from maybe making money to invest it back home we are not meant to live in any of these foreign countries which is why it's so sad that Nigeria is in such a mess
Canada must be nice. I live in the US and I'm definitely not cutting ties with Nigeria not now not ever. I see myself investing over there and moving back in the future. No place like home. I can't give up my heritage for breadcrumbs in the West. No matter where you are abroad, you're nothing but a second class citizen.
Home for me is where my heart is at peace, where i can sleep in peace, where I can find something to do and earn enough to put a decent meal on the table for my family and I and still have enough for my extended family back in Africa, where I do not need a godfather to survive! Home is anywhere ( be it the Arctic where i have lived and enjoyed, or the Antarctica 😉if its possible) I can be true to myself, my beliefs and still thrive! I choose to live one day at a time. In Nigeria, nobody hands down crumps to you without demanding for the skin of your teeth! Haba!! Patriotism to Nigeria is too stressful and one can even die hoping... I've got just one life to live and I plan to enjoy every second of it, irrespective of where I live.

I studied Law for 5 years with an extra year in law school and still don't have a decent Job. People migrate to have a better Life, home is not necessarily where you are born but a place that gives the best contents you seek and accepts you based on your characteristics. My bro was almost killed by those sars officers during the end sars protest. My friend can't even fend for her 2 kids with a decent Job despite graduating with a first class. Those that want to migrate should migrate, they are not the cause of your problems, if you are angry at the country's bad economy then take it out with the government and it bad leadership and not those who travelled out saying they don't want to return, period.
Once the governance issue in Nigeria is fixed, the country will experience huge growth and development which will spur many Nigerians in the diaspora back home. Nigeria is a treasure and a goldmine.

The governance issues are actually exaggerated except insecurity... aside security, all other issues are exaggerated but even with that people still travel by road daily and nothing happens to them i believe...

@mrrightperiod, human nature is like that,we are insatiable. By the time you get to Nigeria after about a Yr you will also get over the euphoria the little things you also took for granted abroad about orderliness, things working, having electricity,the quietness/peace you will start missing them again and you might want to bail to abroad again.
It seems people are having fun here now until you come live there life and you see that Naija is not for the weak. You can balance it by coming here to do some time and go back but staying here permanently you may regret it later.

I'm Kenyan living in the Netherlands. I feel now I'm older once my child turns 18, I'd love to live in my country.
I admire Canada, and many Africans here once they got their passport went to Canada. I find it cold that's why I didn't come, but have visited Nigeria and want to visit again. I visited Lagos longtime. Hope to visit Abuja. Love Naija food, fashion and culture. I'm surprised most young folk don't want to go back home, but maybe when they're retired. It's all good, build home from outside.

I just laughed hard when they said will not go back home. I’m sure they’re still new to Canada that’s why but I promised after 10 yrs their answer will changed completely. Every newcomers to Canada say the same, then you realize after few years things changes completely.

That's my biggest gripe about Canada's too, the winter and cold. We also need better food/restaurant choices. Wish we're able to have street venders/restaurants.

For those that said they don't plan to move back to Nigeria, I don't blame them. Nigeria today is worse than when they left it, so there's really nothing that'd make anyone wanna come back. I believe the responses would change if Nigeria becomes a much saner society.

Work hard and build a couple of houses back home and put on rent. If you have to buy land, then do so and build in that land. You don't want to get old to the age where you can no longer work in Canada, the United Kingdom, United States and other overseas countries. You don't want to end up homeless abroad? I don't know how many of you will be able to afford a nursing home in your 70s or 80s? it's not fun. We are not used to being confined in our old age. You will really regret if you don't plan to go back to your country when you get old. Do something back home; even a one bedroom for your future return back home.

At the end of the day everyone’s destined for a different life , do whatever works for you, if an opportunity arises for you, take it, some people are born in Nigeria but yet don’t have access to family, die jobless, and so on, some people still prosper in Nigeria, some people go abroad but don’t make it, some people go abroad and flourish, learn to not compare yourself, if not you’ll loose yourself, if you’re a Nigerian please come 2023 vote wisely!❤️

The longer you stay abroad, the more you want to come back home. So if you ask people that are less than 5 years in Canada, the chances of them saying they will come back home is really low.

Everyone misses family and friends...The insecurity in Nigeria is breaking family ties.
I am from Brazil and we feel the same as the Nigerian. We miss the warm weather, food, family but wont go back. Too much uncertainty and violence.

In as much as I am a proud Nigerian. Nigeria is difficult. The laws doesn't work for the rich in Nigeria. Police brutalities , if you don't know anyone, you can't get a job. Insecurities everywhere. Though Nigeria is indeed a fun country. But if I had the opportunity to leave Nigeria, I would never return, I love our culture and traditions but it is hell if you're not rich or financially stable. If you're rich, Nigeria is the best place to be.
I always say if you are rich and live in Nigeria, you are more or less a King. You can get cheap labour, bribe your way through any form of legal case, and sadly you will have millions of people below your social status who will respect and adore you.

You don't necessarily have to be born in a country before it can feel like home to you, there are many features and characteristics a country has that can make you feel at home there. During my time in Iceland I was completely worried about race issue but to my surprise Icelanders are pretty nice at least the ones I encountered, they treat you like you are one of there own and it retained some African features seeing the country is diverse, definitely felt like home even though I wasn't a citizen or born there.
And you be surprised Canada is very multicultural and diverse, my sis sent me a video on a African supermarket located in Canada, there you'd find african food stuffs in that market and also there is an entire church dedicated to Africans which she usually attend, Canadians also go there but it's a church dedicated to Africans.
My friend in Netherlands also experienced same on how the people there treated him like one of there own and also them having bicycle culture which he pertakes in so in essence you don't have to be born in particular country or be citizen before it can feel like home. Hope this helps.

Never forget your home. Build at least a one bedroom in your own land back home, so you can return in your old age, if you live to your 70s, 80s or 90s. Look at the number of homeless people abroad, who are old. Don't forget your family back home. All these people talking are young but work very hard now and buy land in your hometown and build a place for yourself, and if possible a place to rent out so you can get income in future. You will never own anything in these oyibo lands. You will always pay very high taxes, even when you are not working or retired, and the house will go into foreclosure. Think my African brothers and sisters. I know things are bad back home, but don't get old and try to live here. A nursing home is like a prison. We are not used to that kind of restricted lifestyle.
People are homeless abroad because they have sent all their money to their relatives abroad instead of setting themselves up for their old age where they are abroad.

Why are Nigerians not interested in returning home? I really want to travel out but this aspect of not considering returning gives me concern. I have always said if I travel out, I'd like to come back. It's like once they leave, they never want to return.
Everything you mentioned you need money to do. In general, unless you were fortunate enough to get a great opportunity, or your family was already in a great situation, it’s almost impossible to work your way up (jump social classes) back home. Hard work and an education doesn’t guarantee you anything.
I find this very SAD! No place like home, I would hope that some of people interviewed will start changing their minds after 7-10years in Canada. If Africa don't develop, her citizens will never be respected no matter how long they live in a foreign country.
I agree with you but Home is where you are at peace. And clearly these people are at peace here, some may already be citizens of the country so that is home to them. Nigerians problem is majorly the leaders and if things don’t get better, you can’t expect people who have the opportunity to leave not to. Nigeria is draining on all levels.

You don't expect them to spend the rest of their lives trying to fix a country that its leaders do not care about, and you don't even have an enabling environment to thrive, most things are beyond them. Just try opening a small business or try doing something for a community and see your challenges. Home is where you are comfortable and have peace.

Visiting is just that - visiting. Visiting a country and overstaying is illegal and leads to problems. Even with a Canadian passport you need to follow legal procedures if you want to stay in another country legally
