- Tracy Chapman performs "Mountains O' Things" live at the Farm Aid concert in Irving, Texas on March 14, 1992. Farm Aid was started by Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp in 1985 to keep family farmers on the land and has worked since then to make sure everyone has access to good food from family farmers. Dave Matthews joined Farm Aid's board of directors in 2001.

For many years now I have said that this is the most significant of Tracy Chapman songs. I love fast car as much as anyone, but if you were to give me a chance to perform one song, it would be this one.

Female Bob Dylan of that generation. She is a master lyricist, telling of the plight of the impoverished, and the human struggle to find love, equality, respect and belonging.
Her genius will live on for generations to come.
She thinks deeply. I can feel the struggle in her voice. She puts words and experience to an underspoken existence. We all struggle to get mountains of things. I am Soo proud of her.

Very few singers can keep the same quality of vocals on stage as that which is recorded in a studio.Tracy Chapman's voice is just as fine on a live performance as anything you'd hear on a digitally remastered recording. That clear, crisp voice is out of this world. An amazing talent beyond what words can describe.

Always an amazing artist. Those who commented on her physical appearance are caught up in today's paradigm of popular music - performers' appearances are more important than their skills. If that paradigm had held in the past we never would have had a Dylan, a Janis Joplin, a Jim Croce, a Minnie Ripperton, Hendrix and so many other giants of song. If you don't know them look them up. Tracy doesn't fit the models of beauty held by some, but what does that matter? Listen to her. The honesty and truth in her songs are almost without parallel today.
