I agree. The Tesla has softer seats for sure but it’s because there suspension is terrible
It's nice to hear feedback from people who just like cars and aren't fanboys of a particular brand. Most people equate soft seats to more comfortable seats, I am a little bit of the opposite, I find a well-designed and well-supported seat to be much more comfortable. My favorite seats are BMW ones with thigh extensions. I owned Model 3 for 2 years, wasn't crazy about the soft cushion but it was liveable but they were just too narrow, I felt like I was always sitting on top of the thigh bolsters.
Cool video. Never heard anyone complaining about rivian seats tbh. But did hear ppl say teslas seats are way too soft so it was surprising to hear. To each its own tho.
I have a Tesla and an RT1 and the seats are perfectly fine in both of them. I have no idea what he's going on about. The Rivian is now my favorite car hands-down.

I own and Rivian R1S, and a model S, previously owned a model Y. I actually think the Rivian seats are fine. Slightly hard. But I like that they’re wider than the Tesla seats. The Tesla seats kind of squeeze your sides like hugging you too much. I don’t like that. But overall, I think they’re both equal to me.
I believe based on researching on seats in general that the firmer the seat is the healthier it is for the actual back. It is something you just have to get used to. it's like buying another seat for your computer desk and initially it doesn't feel comfortable because you're not used to it but then once you get used to it and then realize later it is actually better for your back you'll appreciate that. After a few hrs or days it'll feel more natural
I've owned 3 Teslas. The seats are fine. Most people love them because they are soft but the bottom cushions are way too short for tall people and 3/Y don't breathe at all. Also all of our Teslas were delivered scratched and filthy and had serious build quality issues. Our 23 MY is currently in the shop for the fourth time and the "comfort" suspension is still terrible. Model S and X are better but still very much on the firm side. So yeah, there is a lot to like with Tesla, (which is why we keep buying them) but there is also a LOT of room for other makes to improve. We are absolutely considering jumping to Rivian for the next go around.

I added the powered frunk to my model X plaid. - one of the best upgrades. Pretty easy to install and still works with the screen controls and the emergency button in the frunk and the app.
As a Tesla owner, there are two big reasons I’m not a Rivian owner. Obviously, charging network. More importantly, no service center where I live in NM.
Rivians getting Tesla supercharger access in April. Not sure about the service center situation but they're expanding rapidly, I'd be surprised if they don't open one up nearby soon.
Good feedback, from my Rivian showroom visit I really like the seats. They are similar to the firmness of the Range Rover seats. In my opnion, better then my Tesla Model Y seats.
Driving my R1S for 3 weeks. Did not notice thing about seats. I like them. It’s like mattresses…, some like them soft, some like them firm. Tesla owners:) don’t be jealous:)

I have a 2023 Model Y and seat comfort was an early concern, specifically the narrowness of the mid-seat and the firmness of the wings. The right wing hit my sciatica and I was worried this would be a recurring issue, but the foam seems to have worn in some. (Or I don't notice it as much) The bigger issue was the headrest, which forced my head forward. My head would bounce off the headrest on bumpy roads or over potholes. I took the headrest out and turned it around, and plan to tilt the headrest back so it doesn't force my head forward.
Bottom line - you have to be comfortable in the seat!

Tesla software hardware superchargers is best. Their ability to constantly and quickly improve the vehicle is awesome.
Rivian is going to be able to charge at Tesla stations in April so...
I agree with a lot of this. Seriously I do. I own a quad motor R1T limestone with the black 22. The seat thing I feel it could be that yours are just still new and broken in. However I agree that they are a bit firm, but mine has soften a little over time. And feel better now. My model s plaid seats are good, but they hurt my back on long trips. In my lower back but in the Rivian, it was my butt that hurt. My model s plaid, seat needs to be replaced again, becasue it’s squeaky and sounds like popcorn. However I think the best combo is a Rivian and a Tesla best of both worlds.
Rivian regen, is stronger. You have to get a use to it. The regen in Tesla is very smooth but doesn’t have the same amount of regen power. After sometime you will be fine.
But I do 1000% agree on the acceleration pedal calibration. I much prefer the pedal in my Model S Plaid, over the Rivian pedal.

Agreed on the seats. I have an R1S and almost got rid of it in the first month because of the seats. They are the most uncomfortable seats I’ve ever owned.
I never thought about it, I will need to drive mines and check. What I will say is Tesla’s interior vs Rivian’s is not even in the same level. A few OTA updates can fix the minor differences in software especially stop sign and light recognition
@@marchickman15that’s bc Tesla likes to be simple and not have a bunch of stuff in the interior which leaves more space. There’s no levels, it’s just preference between Tesla and Rivian. Anything you want for interior like ac heater maps music volume it’s all in your screen and wheel. It’s ez af

My Y Performance is falling apart. Bottom trim for both front seats pooped off in the first month of ownership. Spoiler partially detached, back hatch rattles, cameras work whenever they choose to, seats squeak incessantly. Build quality is sh*^t. For $77k?? Let’s not even get started with service. Tesla fan boys can’t handle the truth.
Guess the seats thing is preference. I have and have had all the tesla's except the cyber and the roadster and I prefer the Rivian seats

Your opinion on the seats. I truly think the seats are comfortable. Have driven hundreds of miles at a time and felt the seats were perfect for travel.
Such a timley video! Im cross shopping Model S/X to Rivian R1T/S as my daily highway cruiser.
I own an R1S and a Model S. Definite difference in terms of vehicle - the Model X isn't a real SUV, it's barely a crossover. The Plaid seats don't fold so it's actually less practical than my Model S unless you get the 7 seater, but then it's slower than the Rivian. So the question really comes down to what type of vehicle you need, do you need an SUV or pickup? Or just a car?
Tesla FSD is unmatched if you care about that but Driver+ on the Rivian is very similar to regular Tesla Autopilot. Service experience though is night and day, I'd hesitate to ever buy another Tesla based on the service experience. Rivian, by contrast, has been fantastic.

I was contemplating converting my R1T reservation to an order and this video has persuaded me to not buy the Rivian at this time.
Can you fit an LP cylinder (or multiple cylinders) in the frunk of your Rivian RT? I know my MY frunk is not deep enough, and I’m not storing cylinders on their sides for transport.
You can fit a least two 20lbs cylinders in the frunk of the R1T.

I put a frunk kit in our model x to open/close automatically. Did that to our model 3 as well. Not a big deal. Enjoy our auto doors. Did rivian add the sentry/dashcam yet. I would not want to not have that. Also want the video games, and video movie watching ability. Kitchen is no longer available anyway so that does not mean anything. Visibility in the x in front is great with the windshield over your head which is not in the Rivain. If I want a pickup, I want something tougher like the cybertruck. Cybertruck has rear steering. Also our model x has a third row and can sit 2 more. Do not need drain in the frunk. I would use a cooler anyway because I want to be able to pull it out. The fit and finish in our X is great. Nothing wrong with it. Don't feel the Rivian has better finsih or luxury. I have seen them. X has air suspension. Don't need lowering to get in, I am not a midget but not tall either. I will get the cybertruck for a pickup. Rivian is too delicate and dainty. Sorry, but an X or tesla is not intimidating. LOL. Why? You are intimidated? Buy a corolla then. Kind of a silly video. See comments about bad seats in rivian. Teslas are all very comfortable. Rivian buys seats from another cheaper automaker, I forget which one. Seats are very important. I don't need beautiful. Again, dainty. I wave to rivians too. Cool to see them and the owners. Would not buy anything but a Tesla. Many reasons why.
Hilarious conversation regarding seats, the most comfortable and supportive I've found are in Toyota. I owned a Dodge 3500 Cummins for a couple years and found the seats to be terrible, the seats were just like sitting on a couch, everything in the driver's position was huge, you'd think you were driving a cement truck!!!!!! If I liked the Rivian, and had issues with the seats I would get them redone to my liking. I've looked at Tesla and found so many negatives I wouldn't ever consider buying one.
This guy is talking about firm seats, but what else about the seats? Do the seats have multiple adjustability? Lumbar support? Driver 1 and 2 memory?
I just did a test drive today of the R1S and I have to agree with Armando about the seats! They were really uncomfortable for me but for a slightly different reason. I’m 6’ 8” and they don’t have an adjustable headrest, so it was way too low. The seats were firm but the fact that you couldn’t adjust the height made them super uncomfortable for me. I wanted to love this car coming from a Model Y, but unfortunately, for me the seats are a dealbreaker too
I like hearing the unbiased first-time Tesla X feedback. I realize seat comfort is a lot like bed comfort, some like firm and some like pillow… I’ve owned my R1S since August 2023 (5 mos) and I’ve never thought the seats were anything but awesome and that’s all I’ve heard from passengers. BUT, I prefer a German car seat over a Cadillac. I like both but if I had to pick, I’m going w the German style firmness. So I wouldn’t call the Tesla seat a deal breaker, but I def prefer the overall experience of the Rivian over my Tesla. Again very personal. I also bought a Chevy Bolt EUV for my triplet daughters and I think that car is amazing for the price. By far the best value for the money of any car I’ve ever purchased and the tech they put in that base model… insane value at $21k after tax credit.
I'm assuming 23 Model S seats are same as the X. If that's the case then I think the R1T seats are same in comfortability but can tell they are far more durable. That said, comparing a fake suv to a real off road vehicle is def apples to oranges
Anyone watching this that wants a roomy suv with more luxury and better tech then these 2 cars have i suggest u look into BMW SUVs. Also if u dont want ur car to look like a mini van.. x5,x6,XM,i7,iX
Honesty is great
Strongly recommend taking this gentleman's opinion on the seats with a grain of salt. I enjoyed the more firm upright seats as a taller person trying to maintain more healthy posture. Tesla's seats are fairly comfortable but there is an annoying curve from the back into the non-adjustable headrest that absolutely does *not* work for taller people. Go sit in a Rivian and make your own decision!
14:31 I’m sure I’m the millionth person to say my Y seats aren’t as comfortable as our Chevy Express, Dodge Megacab, Mini Countryman, F350, Chevy Spark, 84 S*itbox K series Blazer and Subaru Forrester. But I wouldn’t trade it for anything except another one because it’s the best thing since cleaved bagels.
I love the Tesla seats but they are a tad on the small size even I am not a big guy. The leg room is a bit short for me in the Tesla Model Y as an example and while it is alright it is something I will consider when buying another vehicle.
My 22MYP seats are good, and it takes hours for me to feel uncomfortable, but my wife can’t stand them.

I agree. If they had regular doors they could reduce the price by 10-15k and reduce weight improving range by 10-15 miles.
I would not have gotten the X without the falcon wing doors. Getting our kid in and out is so much easier in pins compared to our Y. Also access to the 3rd row is super easy with the 6 seat config of then plaid compared to the gymnastics with our Y 7 seater.

I feel like you would not be able to fully open the gear tunnel when parked in a normal parking spot at the store. Where I live most spots are just big enough for you to get into your car. I still like the Rivian over the Tesla though.
I'm glad to see many in the comments here have both Tesla and Rivian as I do. So tired of the camps that people want to silo themselves into like the tired Chevy vs Ford vs Dodge BS. These are both excellent vehicles. I prefer stiff seats for many reasons and the Y seats are great as well. IMO my Tesla satisfies the sport driving experience and the Rivian is my adventure vehicle.
For the low cost of a McDonald's QPC Meal, I will go to your house and sit in the Rivian for a few hours and weigh the seats down. Maybe they will get softer when a fat dude sits in it for a while xD

Good comparison. Still wouldn’t get the Model X because of the horn being dangerously located, but sounds the R1T would require a long test drive to see if the seats are ok. No question that Tesla has somehow figured out seats that even without much modification ability, are super comfortable for most people. When I had my Model Y, I found the seats incredibly good.
The steering wheel has been resigned for the Model S and X for 2024. It now has a real horn button on the steering wheel.

I agree with the seat assessment. Tesla seats are so much better. I test drove an R1T and the only thing that sucked were the seats. They LOOK great though.
Rivian seats are far from uncomfortable, but everyone’s feel is different. Tesla has nice seats and are super comfortable. But no way are the Rivian seats terrible by any means.

I currently drive a 4Runner and absolutely hate the seats in it. I’ve been in the Model S, Y, and 3 and personally for me the seats are uncomfortable.
So, getting a Rivian over a Tesla will be good for me. The Cybertruck still does not compare to the Rivian R1T and when the time comes I’ll still get the Rivian.
Also, I think an R1S is a better comparison, but I get why this was done.

It's like comparing Android (RT1) to an iPhone (Tesla) in category of comfort features.
Elon said himself that the original Model S seat is one of the most uncomfortable seats he’s ever ridden on. After that they decided to do a significant amount of R&D purely on the seats and how to get and even spread of pressure points over your body.
I’m a big fan of the Hamas tunnel on the Rivian. Lots of places to hide in there.

The rivian seats break in nicely after about 5K miles.
You didn't make any mention of the sound of the truck. My dual-motor R1T is WAY louder than my Model Y especially at about 30-35 mph and when regen braking at low speed. Is your R1T as quiet as the Tesla?
Have a R1S seats are comfortable. S/W, max speed and charging infrastructure Tesla is ahead. Where the X failed for me is in the winged doors. Imagine waiting for those doors to close in a hurried situation, a serious safety issue. Plus X has less space and does not go off-road.

The other problem with purchasing a rivian is they may be out of business in the foreseeable future. Eventually they will not be able to raise any more money, and if they don't figure out how to scale profitably they will lose
That's the real problem. No chance I'd write a check to Rivian.
Now that I've watched whole video I agree on the software. Tesla is light years ahead. If I could have my Model S software in my R1T it would be the perfect vehicle for me. Also, off road vehicles have stiffer seats. Need to. Rivian understood that in their testing. I question whether or not the cybertruck is going to hold up once people start actually using it off road alot.
Yea I wondered if the seats were stiff because of a reason I didn't know. Why is a stiff seat better for off-road?
@@Gjeebs Just a lot more abuse so need heavier duty hardware, foams, and surfaces. You figure if your actually doing serious off roading there will be a lot more impact, lateral movement, etc. So they need to hold up to that abuse over time. Love the content overall. Been following for a while. Keep it up and thanks.
I suggest looking into BMW and Porsche their software has actually been rated higher then teslas.

I test drove one last month. Basically had the same feedback except for the seat discomfort. I've had a Model 3 Performance since 2021 and the Rivian almost feels like a beta version of a Tesla with drive-train feel, software and UI. Rivian also felt really heavy after getting out of my 3rd gen Tacoma TRD Offroad (4000 lbs vs 7000 lbs)
Not going to be competition between this and CT.
I’d buy the one with FSD.
And then get overconfident with FSD and crash like a number of people did with no recourse and no compensation from Tesla. People seem to think that “full” self driving really mean full self driving. Trying sleeping with FSD on. I agree that people should get the car with level 5 autonomous driving. Tesla’s FSD on the other hand is a joke.

Wished the MXP was sub 80k😢. Tesla should redesign the S/X to share the 3/Y platform but keep a longer wheel based and delete the falcon doors to lower cost.
Tesla has Rivian beat on tech .. but that’s because they have a 10 year head start. Rivian will bring all those features with software updates. Rivian has been really good about releasing updates monthly and for the most part, are very good updates.
The seats are definitely firmer than Tesla’s. I prefer teslas seats, but my wife prefers rivians. In fact, she hates teslas seats, which I thought was funny.

My model X power frunk opens easily just with my key fob, already open by the time I reach the vehicle. No need to hit some dirty button on by grill.
Rivian has a key fob that will do that too, and closes automatically without needing to touch the dirty hood 😅

The Rivian is awesome. Can't wait until they produce a more budget friendly vehicle. Can't knock Tesla, clearly people love them based on sales despite what some ignorant haters will state here.

I think RIVN, and I’m just being honest as a Model S owner, they will knock Tesla off the throne at least in the US market. The “minimalist” approach is going to get old very quickly……the X and the S don’t suffer that as much, but even they are falling victim to that. I don’t pay north of 50k for a windshield and seats and a tablet
totally disagree about the seats. most comfortable seats ive ever had in a vehicle. seats are not objective, totally subjective.

Rivian is a more grown up car. Model X after 8 years in production is still being delivered with unacceptable flaws.
How about Rivian R1S if the family has kids and needs third row?
Have him drive a Quad! Much faster than a Dual motor.

@@Gjeebs Well, he said a Plaid X is much faster at 2.5 sec...a R1T Quad at 3.0, and a Dual at maybe 3.5...so, yes, he apparently can feel fractions of a second.
