    Over a year ago I had a massive outbreak of hair algae. The only long term solution was I doubled the amount of bio media in the filter...that eventually ended the hair algae. Later,BGA.but as I said,nuking with Erythromycin might be frowned on by certain people,but no doubt it works very well on BGA and BBA..brown and red cyano also are eliminated with zero harm to fish,plants,filter bacteria. I wasn't going to let two years of plant growth be smothered.

    How much impact does lighting from external sources like pc monitor, room light, window in a "normal" situation (no algae) have? Should i try and block any external lights for prevention?

    What about caridina shrimp? Is it same with yamato shrimp in terms of effectiveness?

      Official WASABI Moderator: Hi efren, it's just an additional external canister for additional filtration media. We've put large plants in there instead. ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ

    Does yamato shrimps eat hair algae and cyanobacteria ?

    Amano Sensei never suggest glutaraldehyde for algae... so, he was discover Yamato Shrimp...
    but.... nowadays... ahhh... lazy talk...

      Official WASABI Moderator: Hi cristian, Agreed. However, there are times that you need glutaraldehyde, such as removing black beard algae, so it's not to be frowned upon.

    Obviously, Amano shrimp must be cheaper in Japan, here 25 Amano shrimp would cost $125
