The algae fix is MAGICAL I got it 2 weeks ago and my tank looks better than ever, it was very algae covered but this stuff cleared almost all of it. I need some algae for my little algae eater but it had to much, and this stuff fixed it after only 2 uses. 100/10 recommend
One other question.. I have a 75 and have an Aquasky light. I want to get ground cover plants and know lighting is important. Should I get another light? I do use tablets and liquid fertilizer. Thanks so much

How would algaefix do w bolbitis? Also any reccs for algae w shrimp?
I got a really bad algae bloom(green cloudy water). I believe one of the root tabs leaked out into the water column cuz I saw one of my plants uprooted and the root tab was next to it. So my tank got “poofed” with nutrients in a very short amount of time
Do I need to remove filter cartridges before use?
in my experience livebearers dont do well with the normal dose. to be safe id do a smaller dose at first and dilute it before adding to your aquarium.
i have cladaphora in nearly all of my tanks💀it seems pretty indestructible...i've tried excel and it doesn't completely eradicate it. i'm going to be trying algaefix in my unstocked planted tank first. i've heard the treatment can lower oxygen and increase co2 so i'll have an air pump running. and one of my tanks has a huge colony of shrimp so i'll have to move as many shrimp as i can to an already treated tank and then move them back once their tank is treated and cleared out. big projects ahead, hopefully it works.
I have heard of the Seachem product you mentioned could possibly help with algae. How would someone go about dosing their tank with it?
If you get a smaller bottle it will say it on the bottle. My bottle says 1ml per 10 gallons

only algae problem i've really had that wasn't the norm have always come from LFS plants. most don't care about snails and algae and just want to sell plants.
The reason algae fix is a co2 substitute is because when algae is being killed it releases massive amounts of co2. Hence your tank should be aerated because it will suffocate the fish. Nice tips bro thanks

I've seen many videos that mention doing a water change at some point after dosing with these products, but I haven't heard any clear instructions as to how long after dosing, what percentage of water should be changed, etc. Anyone know this information? Thanks much.
I used it immediately done a 30% change then upon my fish dying I did another 30% water change it killed over half of my fish I'm so 😔
@@aprilmfr8184 Sorry to hear your bad news. I had no recollection of making my post above, but did a quick read of a couple other posts here and someone mentioned that when the algae dies there's a big release of CO2 which can basically choke animals to death, having been robbed of necessary oxygen. Actually never tried using these products because my research told me to keep my tanks as natural as possible and to avoid using chemicals to interfere with mother nature.
would it be useful for disinfecting new plants before putting them into a tank?
It's always a good idea. Some plants are more sensitive so a quarantine tank is a really good idea. Just drop them in with the pot and let them chill for a week. Then you can move them to your main tank.

I had a problem with green spot algae and green hair algae last year because I increased the hours my light was on by too much, hoping I could get some faster growth. Well that turned out to be my biggest aquarium regret ever. I cut way back on lighting, did some blackout periods, and frequently scrubbed and picked off everything I could see but to no avail. Eventually I gave in and used algaefix which killed my algae but did a lot of damage to my plants. First all of my grass died (not sure what kind, but it was skinny, grew >12in, and I think was a rhizome plant). Then my java ferns died leaf by leaf more slowly. All of my Anubias developed yellowing on their rhizomes, some much worse than others. Some I was able to cut off the bad part and others produced a few babies before completely dying. My amazon swords faired the best but were not without damage. Their leaves slowly browned and died off but they continuously produced new growth and the root system remained healthy. All of this damage continued to happen long after I’d stopped using the algaefix. I even wondered about a nutrient deficiency and tried dosing calcium, potassium, and phosphate in addition to my normal regimen of daily flourish excel and 1-2 times weekly original flourish (none of which were dosed in excess). I dose flourish excel in hopes of increasing bioavailabile carbon (maybe I’m fooling myself) so I wonder if that plus the algaefix pushed things over the edge in some way. Fortunately things are finally back on the upswing but only my swords and some anubias survived. I’m taking it as a chance to rescape and try some new plants, but man it was devastating :/ Oh, and some other tank details. It’s a 30 gallon long (weird size I know but I like it a lot), has mixed Nat Geo and pool filter sand substrate, has a sponge filter, and is heated to about 80 degrees. At the time it was stocked with one betta fish, a nerite snail, and a large colony of Malaysian trumpet snails.
It's like the old saying goes: Too much of anything is bad. Your problem was using too much algecide. You said you were already using Seachem Flourish Excel. Excel is used as an algecide already. Then you used algaefix which is another algecide. So using two different algecides was too much for the balance of your tank.
I highly do not recommend this product it also neutralizes your fish even with the recommended dosage you're better off to scrub the algae by hand with tap water
