At least it's done now? 🤣

I love how you have that important paperwork binder. That's an excellent idea for me to use with my granddaughter! When my kids were being homeschooled, I did the same thing with keeping their tests, and in front of that binder was where I would keep the important stuff. Everything in it own sheet protector, including the tests.

I am the same way! I hate, hate end of the year stuff. Until I clean up and close out the current school year before moving into planning the new school year.

Same here! :) I'm just starting with the paperwork and hate it too! But I have the same rule. Out with the old! And THEN in with the new! That I love organising the new school year so much, is my only motivation to get the cleaning part done! :D

Thanks for a great video : ) Our state doesn't require attendance records & standardized tests, etc - so I don't need an "important stuff" binder. For the Portfolio, I prong everything throughout the year, into the portfolio. Then at record-keeping time, I can find everything, and just need to take out anything extraneous - no need to hunt stuff down. It's worked great : )

I have 2 early elementary kiddos and right now I just have a box/ bin for each kid during the year. This is our first year homeschooling. My plan is to go through it at the end of the year and make a portfolio for each and then have the work in a separate folder with the child's name and school year on it. I haven't got into high school yet but I'm curious how you determine GPA for a homeschool child? What is and is not included? How are those items graded? Is there a way as homeschool moms we can prove the grading is objective?

I actually love all the paperwork organziation 🫣. I just found your channel, and I’m 5 years behind you. I have two boys as well, going into 3rd and 7th grade. Hard to believe one day (I’m sure sooner than I know it) I’ll have a 12th and 8th grader as well! Giving me all the feels! (I also started homeschooling when my oldest was in 4th grade ).

Good idea about using binders that have 1 tab for each grade with the important details. I think I will use that method going forward.
Right now I have 1 folder per kid per year and just keep 2 years worth of there school stuff. However, I do keep their attendance record and reading list for each kid and each grade.
We also live in an RV without much space and 7 kids (4 "officially" homeschooling, soon to be 5). Our state doesn't really "require" the record keeping, but like you, I try to be prepared with my children's work to prove what we have been working on. We only have to register one time with the state (Oregon) per kid and take the state test in grades 3, 5, 8, and 10.

My state doesn't require portfolios. We have a cover school, and twice a year I have to send a form with how many days we did school (minimum 170), what classes the kids studied, and their grades. Only high schoolers are required grades; my younger kids learn until mastery of a subject, so I put M for mastery. I photocopy the filled out forms and put the copy in our file cabinet. And though our cover school will do a transcript, I also keep my own on the computer!
For some reason though, I keep all my kids' work until the end of the year, and then I get rid of it! I might keep one special thing though.

I use my planner as my record of the year. I have to keep records, but there are no rules about what sorts of records to keep or how to keep them. My planner has all our planned school days, booklists, and all the topics studied for the year for all 3 kids. I plan about 12 weeks at a time, so it gets updated throughout the year. Standardized testing results are stored in a file on my computer that is backed up every time I buy digital curriculum on a thumb drive.

It is recommended now not to put the test scores on the transcript since so many schools are test optional

Really? I didn't know that. Our state template still has a place for it. I might take it off, then. Thanks for letting me know!

Dumb question…. What is a cover school? I’m in NC and pulling my kids out of public school to homeschool next year and I haven’t heard of this before.

  • @gaylemacdonell104

What cover school do you use? We are in NC. Also when did you start keeping transcripts?

    • @mandy-maltz
      @mandy-maltz  Před 23 dny +1

I don't give out my kids' cover school name for privacy reasons (being a public figure). However, there are a bunch if you search for them online ❤️ I started keeping a transcript in grade 9.

Do you also keep your planner/lesson plans from every year?

I do! I can't throw them out. It's like a memory book for me.
