This might be a not so smart question, but I really struggle with understanding the difference between Reading Literature vs Read-alouds. I always feel they are not doing enough reading, yet I see my oldest doing his reading assignments from TGTB and feel that is enough. Then they have to choose an Independent read.. where do I fit in a read aloud? 😅
I want them to enjoy Reading, I don’t want it to be a chore. The fact I can’t figure out if Read alouds are part of a workbook for comprehension or if their independent reading is part of another workbook for comprehension. Which one is their “fun” books, the ones they just read without follow up questions or discussions.
I guess what I am really need is a breakdown on how Read alouds and Independent Reading actually work. Each subject has the potential of having their own Literature sets and I just can’t see myself reading so many books in one school year with 2 kiddos, plus a toddler. I need a special book for dummies when it comes to understanding the whole reading part of homeschooling.
I really hope I make sense! I always see homeschool videos where moms have stacks and stacks of books and it brings me down that I am not even close to it.
I am really trying to do my best, but I get discouraged when I see all these beautiful piles of books and I am lost trying to figure out the Reading part for different subjects.

For Math my kids want to stay using TGTB, so that will remain the same.
