- I remember my dear old friend Tony Lucido talking a while back about how all the stress and pressure of this modern world just keeps getting ratcheted up higher and higher….
I remember him saying “we are all just boiling frogs man”….
Hahaaa…so can anyone out there relate to that???
…if truer words have ever been spoken I’d sure as hell like to hear them…
Stay strong friends…a lot of this shit is actually not our fault.
not to sound TOO cliche….but like I always tell my boys….you just gotta zoom out and try to get some perspective about where your own personal problems fall inside the BIG picture of real problems….
and you GOTTA TRY to focus on the positive
Yes, Tom, a lot of us are here for the music and the wisdom -- and the Perspective. I miss the videos of Tony riding his suitcase to the dressing room. He's good for a line about boiling frogs. I'd like to pile on to your advice. Yes, the world is a dark place. But it has ever been thus. We're much better off today than we were in the Middle Ages -- and we have air conditioning. But times are tough, and many people in power have Dilly Bars for brains. We the People are justifiably upset. A fine outlet for that is trolling and snark flinging on social media -- in small doses. I have found it best to give one's hatred a fine focus. Pick the people of a neighboring town, or people who drive a certain make of car -- pick a hatred you can see in person. It's more fun that way. Hating people of an opposing political party is too much work. Both sides supply enough stupidity, blather, and outrage to feed a voracious social media machine of monkeys-in-the-cage-throwing-poop-at-each-other to start a daily civil war of snark. Remember, hate locally. And be careful hating on gear; Fate may arrive next week and tell you to use it.

You are 100% right about why so many folks are angry and bitter right now man. We are living in crazy times and people are hurting. But, that is why most of us Homeskoolers are so thankful to you for starting this channel. We all love music and guitar and all your cool stories about sessions and touring. You never talk about negative stuff or complain. You are an honest no bs kind of guy which is hard to find nowadays. It’s a joy to watch these videos and so many of us look forward to them. You are truly an expert in your craft and we are all very lucky to have you as teacher. Please don’t let all the negativity get to you. Thanks for everything you do man 🐐

I've been actively reaching out to people when I have something positive to say, usually in DM or email, just to hopefully plant a positive seed that can grow. It's those thoughts where you think "aaah they won't even read that." F-it, just send it. One string of words at a time, if we all did that when it makes even a tiny shred of sense to, can make all the difference. One drop in the ocean doesn't make it move, but a thousand drops makes a gallon, a million gallons makes waves. You never know when that one message or comment helps a person off the floor and into a chair. Life's too short for hate and guitars are cool as f--k.

Everything's relative, I find myself feeling very blessed and fortunate. Tom, as you said, just focus on the good. The absolute freedom and release that comes from recognizing and dismissing of sad and angry folks is truly liberating. By that I mean, when you can rise above other peoples actions and intentions and stay in the pocket of trying to be a decent person, their negativity falls away and doesnt matter any more. It truly doesnt deserve one instant of attention, and most importantly, consideration. Let them have their perspective. Just make sure it doesnt change yours.

Every day I wake up on the right side of the dirt is a good day. Whenever some asks "How ya doing?" I always say something like "Spectacular", or "Awesome", maybe "Splendiferous". It takes people by surprise. But it does change the interaction to the positive side. Pull people up and the world is better if even for just a little while.
Tom, you always need perspective and I do think it’s important to recognize that haters are soo much more inclined to leave comments on social media than normal and appreciative people. This video right now has 504 comments. I don’t believe 50% is negative but if so that would be 252 people that are negative out of 15236 views which is 1,7% not 50%. I believe the absolute majority of quiet people like me support and love you and all the inspiring things you do for us - and right now we are at least 98,3% of the views, probably more. Sometimes it’s good to do the math because social media does not give you a correct perspective of the world or it’s people. Keep it up!

That jam to start the video was nothing less than awesome. I think it is easier to be negative and angry than appreciate the fact you are alive, free, and have the choice to be or do anything. If people were to think about all they have, versus what they don't, the world would change. With that said, I believe some people love to be negative and angry, plus make everyone else negative and angry. Misery loves company.

This channel is my 'escape' from the stress and strain of life. I'm always like, "oh cool, Uncle Larry has a new episode up! Let's hear him play and see what gear he's using this time!". Then, of course, some words/ opinions/ knowledge from a regular guy who feels like a friend. I rarely read the comments. And who could hate on the Go Drums?? I thought they sounded great for being so simple, and even looked into getting some for this tiny room that my gear and music collection are crammed into. Keep doing what you do, Tom. I enjoy every episode. Rock on!
I didn’t comment on the original video, but I thought the toy drum set was cool. I did not get my first instrument until I was old enough to work and could afford to buy it for myself. I can definitely see the value of that drum kit.
