Why no suspension for a title?
Finally a real man showing up for the hard tail community. Rough stuff for sure but it’ll make us better riders in the long run.
Maybe I'm just a psychopath but I love the feeling of getting the shit jostled out of you on a hard tail. It helps me to understand just how fast I'm actually going and on what kind of terrain, which gives me a little adrenaline rush and adds to the fun I'm having. Hard tails are definitely my favorite lol
I wouldn't be hitting those trails at that speed on a DH rig let alone a hardtail. Phenomenal riding, well done man
I rode whistler last week and completely agree. For most of us mere mortals, you'll absolutely want to be on a twin crown at least your first few days at Whistler. My own bike is an Ibis Ripmo and I wouldn't take that bike anywhere near whistler, and it has over 800 park miles from other bike parks on it.
Also for some of those sections you have to go those speeds. Whistler rocks have very little grip, so you have to go fast down slabs or rock gardens there.
The real beauty of a hardtail is going back uphill. without the weight and squish of rear suspension, climbing is a surprising breeze. Long live hardtail, preferably mullet 29/27.5.
When he said "I'm just a goober" I was like "shit, this must be easy !"
Long story short I'm recovering from a painful crash now...
@@mikek9297 wishing u a speedy recovery
This is the type of mtb videos i love. No unreasonably long intros, great content, and generally an engaging expierience. Good stuff!
As always it's not the bike it's the rider. Nick absolutely crushes on ANY bike!
Thank you for doing this. I’m soo tired of people thinking they absolutely have to have fs to do anything. It’s almost like no one watches what bmx dudes do on small rigid bikes.
its not about what hardtails can or cant do , its about is it gonna last as long smashing the rear wheel on big rock at full speed against a FS
@@baronnashor158 Sure. That’s not my point though. Race pace runs would differ from bike to bike of course. But hard tails are plenty capable to hit pretty much anything with the right rider and line choice along with good parts. That’s my point. That being said I’ll still race my hard tail pretty much anywhere without worry of breaking a wheel.
@@Ah022 dont get me wrong im a hardtail advocate , im just being realist. Ride a car with no suspension on the rear and ofc some part of the car will endure more stress. But i get what you are saying
@kevinburke1325 you must of had your eyes shut 😂😂
@Ah022 same cant stand people who think that just cause there's 1 less component it means it can't do anything...someone actually told me any drop I do on my hardtail it will snap...Lmao he was wrong 😂
All I gotta say, man's got talent. He proved that it isn't all about gear.
"it's not as bad as I'd thought it'd be" proceeds to ride the worst brake bump section ever 😂
Goober trying to get down the mountain my ass 😂
Love the shout out to Sam Pilgrim. At least your hard tail is not from Walmart. I loved this video.
Sam pilgrim is an absolutely amazing Contant creator some of his ideas are truly ridiculous examples the wooden bike steering wheel attachment I don’t think Sam knows what a health and safety manual with some of his videos why would you do thank you does example of this is when he gets his brother involved Lewi The sidecar was a death trap and when he put a paraglider fan on his bike just insane that but we wouldn’t. have it any other way and I think that’s why many people love his videos
@@ashleytombsbro took more time to write this than I do on my essays
@@mtbposti4251 This is the reason for double space in my comment
I have learning difficulties and big hands so using an iPhone keyboard is a nightmare for me due to my learning difficulties My spelling and grammar dreadful so use the iPhone microphone so it types it for me and then put in the double space so it’s easier for people to read out of all the comments and Replies I have made this weekend you’re the first person To ask what’s up with the 2 spaces I normally get this reply about 3 times a week but lately I haven’t had any your first one in a while I guess people are used to my comments that’s why I think I’m not getting As many replies saying what’s up with the double space as I normally do
Whistler, on a hard tail? These are the shenanigans I love to see.
Thanks for putting this out. I just bought my first decent mountain bike and its a hardtail. I was worried the trails would too rough to really enjoy myself but this shows that its entirely doable. these trails are much faster and techy than anything we have around here so I have much more confidence in it now.
I sold my fs because I’ve noticed that i was getting a little too confident, not worrying so much about lines and stuff and really just sending it, not having fun anymore on lesser trails. But then i went with a friend for a cross country ride and i was using a focus raven and boy oh boy i sweated my ass off to get down some greens with that thing, bit it put such a smile on my face. Ended up getting a honzo to pedal further and become a better rider, i absolutely love that thing! Im going down everywhere and no trail it’s ever boring!
Your physio favourited this video.
As a total beginner i built up a hardtail to learn how to drive and how to jump. See this give me goosebumps what is possible with a hardtail! Much love 🫰
Absolutely incredible, I get scared from small jumps especially after I gave myself concussion, but seeing you ride with such proficiency inspires me to get back out there and try try again.
Sick riding at the end
Me and some buddy’s rode whistler on hard tail djs with mechanical rear brakes and 100 mm fork back in 2010, we got some looks for sure, groms from Ontario
First time really seeing the trails at Whistler and I can already see how its regard as potentially the best bike park in the world.. tear jerkingly beautiful setting and those trails are pure art, amazing flow. You clearly know them well
"I'm just a goober" - Dude shreds hard.
I love the idea of experiencing a trail from a new and challenging perspective! Thanks so much for posting, Nic!
Of course a hardtail can do it all, if you’ve the ability to do it! Which course you clearly do and we knew that anyway. Me? I did ride just a hardtail for ages, but I “upgraded” to a full squish and it gave me the confidence to progress my riding a lot more quickly. Anyway, fantastic vid as always and great riding as always! 👍🏻🤘💪
The fact it’s a 29er helps a lot for sure.
Epic run on dirt merch with that
Cool
Nice work man. Hard tails are all I have ridden since 1985. A Chilcotin 167 may be calling my name.
I've only ridden hardtails since I started riding about 30 years ago. No parks close to me but we do have good, gnarly bandit trails with drops and jumps. I was worried about breaking the frame on my 19 year old, 26" Giant XTC on the gnar so I bought a real trail bike, a 29" Giant Fathom. This bike is tough, survived some bad crashes with only a few scratches.
That was sick. You're nuts, man!
My back hurt watching this. 😅
My whole body hurt after riding Whistler on a DH bike, much less a hardtail haha
Start squatting and deadlifting
Yes, I was watching and waiting for someone to do whistler on a proper hardtail for sooooo long
Awesome as always! You’re riding abilities are fantastic, don’t sell yourself short!
I feel like parks are probably great for hardtails because they’re purpose built for bikes. A lot of what I ride are multi use so lines aren’t a thought, and the full sus bikes can eat that up, but if I’m on my hardtail I’m more likely to get thrown around/die.
Keep it up!
Lol til you feel how fucking rough it is on your hands.
I'm pretty sure he meant to say, "today's video is brought to you by ankle torture and balls of steel."
I could feel my ankles on that one
HT's might not work optimally in every scenario but they're so capable and fun. Keep feeding that HT spicy food!
That was beautiful. You know those trails so well, which made it possible for you to show what can be done with a proper trail hardtail, like the Ty. Also, nice time of day for riding.
my entire body aches just thinking about doing a day in the park on a hardtail
I rode Whistler for the first time last week. My whole body ached after doing a full day on a DH bike there. It is a VERY physically demanding bike park to ride.
Yea! Lore hardtail content for the masses!
man ur content and voice is just so nice to watch
I love ur stuff keep it up
I have one bike. A Banshee Paradox V3. It is a nice bike.
For that "We alive" I ride my hardtail! 💜
Hardtails are the best bike to learn and progress as a mountain biker. You learn good body positioning, movement and lines for both tech and jumps. And as someone who can't afford a full suspension, I can confirm they can do black and double back diamonds no problem. You have to take it easier on certain places, but no problem.
Hardtails on hard trails is definitely a young person's game though. My 40-something joints don't appreciate the chatter.
@@mrvwbug4423 that's true.
"Who needs suspension?"
Spine: "Am I a joke to you?"
Hahah casually chatting away while SHREDDING it on a HT
Woop woop for Hardtails. Just came back from Bikepark Greenhill shredding Groomer and Mammut. Black diamond tech trails on my Enduro Hardtail Ragley Big Wig 😍 and my buddy on his Raww Madonna did not have to wait for me too long 😅
Awesome video and great riding! Nice getting that second lap in too - you stomped those big drops. One of my favorite memories is bringing my DJ bike up for an A-line lap back in the day. I wouldn’t have considered riding the tech on that one, but man my Tyaughton would eat it up!
This is what I was waiting for... sick dude!!!
Man you're always pushing your limits to create your content, on the lung run I bet you'll gain insane skill. Well not that you haven't got a lot already. Great stuff!
Love this!!! ❤By the way ...lets up the ante and stick with the 26ers for full bragging rights ❤❤ (29s are a crutch) 😂
Sure ... on a DH bike haha
I have a canyon exceed and I love it. You have a totally different ’feel’ for the trail. After am hour and a half through, ya feel it!! Hamstrings and quads especially.
Did you feel more balance on jumps?
I’m a hard tail fanatic and enjoyed the video. I would like to see more hard tail videos from you. Good job
Always good to see a half-squish at a bike park. I've shredded half-squishes at both Snowshoe and Bryce, hitting blacks, and was just fine. As long as the HThas some modern geo it'll be just fine. Plus, the props ya get for riding the gnar on an HT is always cool too!
Whistler is on a whole different level than Snowshoe or Brian Head. Nick was able to do that because he knows the Whistler trails like the back of his hand so knows pretty much all the lines. Whistler is a place where you really want to be on a DH bike if you're just learning the trails there. Nick only started riding his enduro bike there within the last couple years, prior to that he would always bring his DH bike there. Having ridden Whistler myself just last week, it's very different from most other bike parks, everything is steeper, the hits are bigger and the rocks have very little grip so rock gardens and slab rolls have to be taken a lot faster than you're used to.
This guy is the opposite of the phrase “all the gear, no idea”
Epic ride on a hardtail! Props to you man! 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🙇♂️🙇♂️🙇♂️
Damn dude that last run was insane, you are a beast #RESPECT !
Super hardtail! Thank you bro!
something about that Dirt Merchant lap got me so pumped! So happy to see someone else riding Whistler on a hardtail.
Super sick 🔥
Damn that ad is smooth. Nice scenery and image quality
That bike is sick!! You should ride it more.
Soooo satisfying, thanks!
Thanks for the ride!!!!!
love seeing hardtails get some love. still ride my 2014 GIANT Talon, great bike.
Heck yes! So rad!
I remember seeing your bike at the hotel when I was packing mine up, what a beast of a rig you have
This man knows the mountain better than I know the gta map
Dude this is so gnarly!!
That's ma boy!!!! Yasss. Hardtail for life man. Badass. Well done. 🤙🤙
You handled that all to well on the hardtail nice job
Great video! Love taking my hard tail to the bike park.
Great riding!
Hell yeah !
Road gap on a hard tail.
Great video, awesome riding dude
This video gives me hope!
And for the next episode, full rigid! lol I was ducking every branch on the way down. Jesus!!!
That was some sick riding on a hardtail!
Great video. Really enjoyed it. Thanks for making and posting.
That was awesome to watch.
i love riding my hardtail at trestle bike park, it takes it out of you but it’s always a blast. keep ripping dude
I don't normally watch these kind of videos, but I loved it! I'm sure it helps I ride a cherry red hardtail
my hands hurt after one half day of riding there with a dh so you definitly deserve my respect for you doing all of that on a hardtail.
All those braking bumps remind me of my time learning on Mt.Washington... 25 years ago riding my Cove stiffie with 4" of beautiful Judy XL suspension!
One of your best vid 💎⚜️🥇🌟
I was working at Whistler/Blackcomb in the early 2000's and rode hard tail. Since I lived there I was able to ride a lot and became a faster rider than most of the full suspension riders. I was definitely one of the only ones riding hard tail at the time and got a lot of looks and compliments.
Heck yeah! Rad to see what a hardtail can do! Dag! I already miss Whistler!
Great footage! I love underbiking. Riding a hard tail makes you a stronger rider, just remember to do your safety checks. You don’t want anything to shake loose.
I went to kicking horse a few weeks on my hard tail, ill admit, it was rough but had a great time . My first time in whistler about 15 years ago was also on a hard tail.
Whistler on a hardtail...while narrating it 😂
Did you change any pressure in the tyres or suspension before the ride? Nice work. 🤘
I love taking my ht to the park. It’s really not bad it actually makes the trails feel completely new. The only problem I have is it really seems to wear you out a lot faster then my big bike.
Great video man! ! have been riding my NukeProof Scout HT all summer long at the downhill bike parks here in Idaho. Have an absolute blast! It does wear my calves out pretty good getting shook around all day though 😅
Great Video, Loved the whole ride down with you at Whistler, even though it was only a virtual ride down for me here on CZcams. I also love riding Hardtail down trails like these even though i also have a Full Sus bike.
you killed that
woah this is insanely inpressive
Line choice is Key! Nice, riding! Hard, tail forever!
Line choice become so unforgiving if going fast on a hardtail! Becomes all about the rider for sure 💯
just the video i needed! as different as it may be i prefer riding 'gnarly rough stuff' on my hardtail even though i've only been riding for a year, but i always use the 'no-rear suspension' as an excuse to back out of certain sections even though i want to do them and i know i can do them. thats why i love these hardtail videos cause they basically show you that the only limit is the person riding!. would love to see more hardtail action and thanks for posting these vids, big fan.
The hardtail excuse is awesome. And when you hit something your friends don’t you’re a hero. It’s a win-win!
haha! for sure@@danwebber9494
Once you hit fade to black you started absolutely hitting lite speed
What a cool fun video! I freaking love my HT!
I’d hurt myself hiking those trails, no mind riding them !
Dem Skill Boii
This speed...on a ht... you are crazy 🙂 i need more of this stuff....
Do you run your rebound the same as your FS bikes?
My voodoo has the same frame design gives alot of confidence.
