Just picked up an M2 Competition with a manual. It’s my ideal setup as someone who has always lusted after an M3 in the past. I’m just going to do an equal length mid-pipe exhaust to fix the sound and then it’s perfect in my opinion. Once I track/auto cross more I will probably do front camber plates, KW HAS, and tension strut ball kit.
.........Matt ordered his G80 three days ago. I can almost bet he is going to get one. The only thing saving him was that e46.
personally, I just love the grill. it matches the car entirely and simply looks more aggressive.

Honestly in black the front end blends enough to where it wouldn’t bother me. Plus from your opinion the driving perspective and interior seem pretty spot on
I caught a feed from Chip Foose where he resigned the front end. His rendering was tasty.
That doesn't fix every other panel on the car. This thing is ugly from all sides.

I think it’s time to supercharge the E92 and scratch that horsepower itch. It’s fully reversible if you decide you want to go back to NA. I haven’t gone back in over 5 years though. This is the way.

I think the M2 CS is the real M3 successor. The new M3 is so big, it really is true M5 size.
Well early 2000 m5 size but still quite a small sedan in modern day terms

That sentence at 18:05 is exactly why these new turbo rwd front engine cars don't appeal to me. You have all this hp and torque but you can't use full throttle in these cars until you are in 3rd gear or over 60mph. So on tight backroads you can never use full throttle, either it will spin the tires or traction control will cut power. But in a e92 m3,because of the lower torque, you can use way more full throttle while driving on the street. On the track when the tires are hot and you have more 3rd or higher gear corners its less of an issue, but for street driving the na cars are way more fun to me.
If anyone is going to get a G80 and do it right, its Matt. Going to be dialed in !

You said you feel a little more soul in this car minus the front grill however most people seem to be missing the fact that the new front grill design is paying homage to the old 3 series grill which is more tall than wide... IMO brings more soul to the car as it’s a nod to its predecessor
Not a fan of the grill, I like the looks of the f80 more but it's probably a better car overall.

Let’s face it the only people at this point that think the grills are ugly are those people who are blind, have bad taste or more than likely are just butt hurt because BMW changed the design. Of course there’s a fourth option these people can’t afford one of these anyway.

Every person I’ve shown this grill to loves it. The only people that don’t are the ones who own F80s. This is not very complicated to understand. If you were right then sales would suck for this new car. Money talks and feelings don’t. Man if you hate this grill you must absolutely hate Lexus, most of Mercedes and especially the Alfa grill. That grill is Hella ugly. Lol. However I still say this all comes down to you being butt hurt because of change. Believe me I don’t take that against you because it’s happened to me with many different products also but just because I was upset about change didn’t mean everyone else was also. The same works for you in this case. And if you feel confident about your opinion because others in your exact same circumstance echo it on forums you’re fooling yourself. You and people with this opinion about the new grill make up an extremely low percentage of BMW buyers. So at the end of the day let’s follow sales and then we will know who’s right. And one last thing. Even a handful of CZcams reviewer‘s that I have watched, and I’ve watched at least 100, that agree with you on the grill all still say a G80 is better than the F80 in speed, torque, handling, suspension, interior looks, technology and the rest of the outside of the car with the exception of the front grill with a portion of them saying they’re all coming around to liking it. So your grill hating world is shrinking around you.
@@BrettL250 but you’re missing the point where i didn’t compare the cars in the performance or anything else. i love everything about the G80 except those ugly ass grills that’s it lmfao. lexus and alfa grills actually look good for those makes because they built it around that look. these grilles do not match the car in any aspect no matter how much you say about better sales. yes sales will be better but guess what? everything that’s good about the car besides the grills is what is making the sales go up 😹 people are forcing themselves to like the grills cause everything else is amazing about the car. when chip foose has to make a redesign video just off the grills alone your point of attaching emotion to change is thrown out the window but i can agree some people do attach themselves to no change.
Front end is really growing on me and there seems to be a lot more about it that he liked than didn't like.

Good to see this love your detailing. Drove one today, amazing car, the bucket seats suck if you're bigger and also for getting in and out of the car/general comfort. Front grill looks great 🍻

I learned how to drive on a non-power steering, non-power brake, three-on-the-three manual LWB pick-up truck. I was on my fifth vehicle before I owned a manual. Trust me.. those weren't the good 'ol days.
I recently bought a DSG Golf GTI Clubsport and having two non-sporty manual BMWs and I gotta say, I miss the manual.

Think that lag is because of the break in period ... Once the ECU hits a specific miles , you will get the full power and Performance of the vehicle
@@allen624 they gave you false information.... This is why I don't trust the techs at the dealership ... The car cokes with what's essentially called a " transportation " software ... After your first service " engine oil and diff oil " you get a remapping of the ecu to get it out of " transportation mode " ... Auto topNL on youtube just recently did his service
@@allen624 again , donthe research ... Just because your suv didn't come with a pre installed transportation mode doesn't mean it doesn't exist for a totally different platform ... Go to auto topNL channel on youtube , he has recently Done his .... and he's not the only person to have mentioned it ...

My favorite part of any Matty video is the first four minutes when the car is moving and Matt is just staring at the infotainment inputting "sport mode" on every car. You should make a "Sport Mode" shirt.
Keeping my F80 (M3CS) and F82 (M4GTS). I just can't deal with the hideousness of that G80 and G82, however I do love the new engine - which is why I bought the F97 X3M.
Do u find the ride of the X3M extremely harsh? Two of my buddies said it is with theirs.
@@raheeb1 I guess that depends on what you’re comparing it to. Compared to my M3 CS and M4 GTS it’s like riding on a cloud. lol. If you’re coming from another SUV, I guess it could be considered a tough ride. I don’t really notice it. The fun of the drive outweighs everything.
The chassis is the key for me, the way it sits on the road and handles is solid. Not to mention it’s a beast, it should be noted the manual is less power than the auto and as for the body styling it’s aggressive and suits the overall beast of a car.

It does sound better than the F80. Sounds more natural. I was shocked when I saw how far up in the rev range the torque peak lasts. Very impressive!
This is actually the first video of the new M3 I've watched. Like how you compare the various models of m3 to the new one w first hand knowledge! Sound wasn't bad w new setup in my opinion. And the GT350 comment is spot on. I've owned a '17 and just sold my '19 and the brakes will rip your face off if you stand on them. Lol
Hey Matt, I'm not sure if you're a fan of tunes, but the F80 has gone quite a ways since you've sold yours. A Stage 2 Bootmod3 tune (with % boost reduction per gear) creates a nearly lag-free, linear acceleration, experience. Add to that the equal length midpipes, with Dinan axleback (although, in my experience, the best sounding setup is an AA single midpipe, with an Akrapovic axleback; type "Steven Nguyen Akrapovic" in CZcams). Lastly, a CS suspension (i.e., ZCP dampers, and ZCP rear sway bar) with M Performance springs and a CS suspension/EDC flash is quite the improvement over the stock pre-LCI's F80 suspension.
I can't imagine the G80 would offer much more beyond the aforementioned, particularly at the expense of its exterior aesthetics. Although an F80 to G80 interior swap would be incredible haha.
The G80 is just better overall package compared to past m3 models
Got this spec on order IOMG with Kyalami buckets but in the comp model. I like the grilles, always have since release. I think in person it works much better than photos. No mistaking it for a regular 3 series.
Probably the last M3 with a manual which sucks to think of.
On the other hand, it’s awesome that BMW still makes these cars with manuals. The C63 and RS4/RS5 hasn’t had a manual for a long time now.

Maybe when the break in service is completed it will eliminate the lag. I think the break in ecu programming is restricted
Bmw had so much potential w g80.. this could’ve been the epic model yr. all they had to do was shrink down 8 series design w this powertrain. Then the fruitcake chief designer decided to have a power trip and show the world what he can ruin. So sad :( “not bad design” isnt good enough for such emotional purchase. You should want to look at the car every time you come out of it. And this just doesn’t have that.

Nice review Matt. In some markets like the U.K. you can’t buy the manual, Competition version only. The one to go for would be with Individual paint and ceramic brakes.
I like it. Always have, I think the driving experience makes up for the way the grille looks. I’d like to see you get one.

I might be the odd one that likes the front a whole lot. The dip between the nostrils just looks great to me. The interior on this is on another level, makes the F80 look like a joke.
Hot take, I have liked the looks of these since they debuted last year, I know crazy.
Maybe not as soon as they were revealed, but quickly i liked the frond end. It's different, not just a 3 series with a body kit. It reminds me of a jet plane intake. Newer bmw kept the traditional kidney grills, but got way to big and i find it ridiculous.
The g80 looks more agressive than a c63 amg or audi rs5. Still hope to see one in real life to judge the size, a 3-door would be better for look for sure.
I’d like for him to drive an m2 cs with EL mid pipes and an akra to get rid of the diaper muffler. He’d be in love I think.
Wait a few months for the front end kits to come out. Then make up your opinion if it's worth it.
Not sure how many people are going to buy and $80k car and put an aftermarket front end kit on it.
@@gregs8685 modifying an M3 is very common, I would bet most M3s at some point in their life gets modified. Whether it be cosmetic or performance.

I'm 24 so in between a millennial and gen z, I bought my 10th gen Civic Si that only comes in manual without knowing how to drive a manual. Modern manuals are so easy to drive. I watched some CZcams videos, practiced the foot movements not in a car, went and bought it. Drove home no problems whatsoever. Manuals are not difficult to drive!! Just do it!! They are so much more fun.
Not every manual is going to be easy as the SI, 4 cylinder Honda’s are extremely easy. Just a heads up when you drive other manuals.

I look at the new M3/4 like an awesome girl who just needs braces to fix her teeth, the juice is worth the squeeze. Buy the car now and install a replacement front bumper when one comes out. End up with an awesome girlfriend who has nice teeth too! LOL

Best looking Bmw ever made by a mile, especially in those colors. Rip oem wheels, sad to see it lowered on ugly wheels, but stock it’s amazing
BMW M wheels are so good, it's almost like they have a separate allure equal to the car itself.
Hard to argue with technology
Throttle response is muted until after the 1200 break-in service is completed... or at least that's what a local dealer said, as did some people commenting on another video where the reviewer complained about how sluggish the car felt. The local sales guy said, "Don't judge the car on how it drives at first if you buy one, it really wakes up after the break-in service, and the full potential is unlocked".
That’s nonsense. I’ve heard that about every BMW since the beginning of them.
@@ObsessedGarage I owned the E46 and E90 and both times the dealer only said to limit the revs to break in the engine safely... which is a debatable practice. As for the new G80, with the advancement of ECUs I wouldn't be surprised if this is true. Take the C8 Corvette, it is absolutely true that the car is held back from the factory until it hits 500 miles. The only difference is the Corvette "unlocks" itself while driving. Maybe it is nonsense... and the BMW just has crappy throttle response due to turbo-lag, is so, then that would ruin the car for me.

That sucks man but bmw is only gonna bring cars that will sell in your market. In the US the manual take rate is 25%
Find one you like and have it shipped to you. These things are piling up on dealer lots and they want to make deals to move inventory!
Why do you need a competition package? You don’t. Standard M3 is plenty quick.
I'm not getting what you prefer over F80 besides the sound and seats. This car has huge design issues besides the grill - Dodge hood, weird side character lines, Lexus tails, shiny black lower trim etc. It also sounds a lot more muted compared to F80 and less high pitched, more of a deeper/mature noise. The digital gauges are terrible as well as they are not customizable like Porsche or MB. If you want to experience a good sounding Turbo car - please drive 991.2 T, you will Love it.

Evolve in the UK are going to do a different front bumper for the G80/82. It'll be expensive but the option is there if you want.

I like that the paddle shifters and thumb-sized. The regular paddle shifters are too easy to press for people who are unfamiliar with driving that type of transmission.
Watch this then the auto g80 video - what a difference a trans makes. Manual is only option for this gen

Matt, have you driven a manual 46M with a properly tuned CSL intake?
Hoping you get another F80 in either Comp or CS trim, although CS is DCT only. Beautiful design and way more raw driving experience. Tons of new mods/tuning you can do now to fix sound compared to couple years ago.
M2comp would probably be more his size
He pretty much spent a solid 5min in this video talking about how much he hated the F80 generation & S55 engine.

On your comment about packaging: the F series BMWs are the WORST packaged cars ever. I had an F10 535. Tiny back seat. I knew when you got that M5 you were going to hate that. The 6er Grand Coupe was a monster outside. Even longer but LESS room than the 5 sedan. And the 6 series convertible had less room than the 4 series convertible, even though it was bigger.
Yeah, the entire F series of BMW’s is a huge low point. An F30 3 series....shudder.

I was not expecting this thing to be manual .. at all lol. I basically never see a manual F80 M3 or M4, wasn't expecting different for these. Only manual F80 M3 I seen was pretty much yours. :D And I feel like most of the Bmw farty noises come from the dual clutch when they change gears, idk I could be wrong. I'd like to hear this manual one with an exhaust eventually, for research purposes :)
