Handsdown the most underrated cuv. It's not for hauling heavy loads or towing but it gets the job done getting you/your family around with a good overall fuel economy
Nick Navata CR surveys to owners rated the Outlander Sport the most reliable SUV.
Actually Dave the big news for 2015 is the optional 2.4 liter engine...you now have 2 choices. Reviewers love to bash this popular, extremely reliable SUV. But those who own them LOVE them.
I bought the 2015 Outlander Sport 2.0 AWD CVT ES in Octane Blue at the end of June. I have been more than satisfied with it. I'm 55 years old now, and am not out to impress with squealing tires and roaring engines. So for me, the lower HP and less responsive CVT was not a factor. Despite Dave's "real world" mileage, I am routinely averaging 27-28 combined and have seen 34 MPG on a road trip to KY and back from Albany, NY. These figures are manually calculated and are actually higher than what the computer displays.
For me, the most weighted criterion is reliability. Previously I owned a 2003 Outlander AWD. After 11 years of ownership and more than 200,000 miles, I never had an issue with the engine. Therefore I knew Mitsubishi was a good bet for my replacement car in the long run. It's a shame Mitsubishi is so underrated.
The 10 year / 100,000 mile warranty is a comforting feature as well. With dealer discounts and a rebate, mine new Outlander Sport came in at just under $19K. The only option I got was the fog lights. I guess I'm old-school, the simpler entertainment interface suited me fine, and I still know how to use a map.
I feel the comments like "tough sell" and "leaves a lot to be desired" are unwarranted. Even though the Honda HR-V has very similar interior measurements, a less advanced CVT (2sp vs 6sp for the Outlander Sport) and less HP and torque than the Outlander Sport, the detailed review of the Honda HR-V was not so unkind. The only stand-out feature the HR-V had over the Outlander Sport was the overall cargo capacity. The Outlander Sport has nearly 2 inches more ground clearance which will be a benefit for those in snowy environments.
Although I really like Everyman Driver reviews (I recommend them frequently to friends and family) I feel they may be biased.
As with everything in life, do not base your opinion on a single source of information. And test drive your final selections and see for yourself.
+Robert Stewart I still feel this vehicle highly underrated and often glanced over. Considering the incentives and warranty, it becomes hard to look at anything else.
Hows it running?
@@kylemas2005 Idk about the op's but my 2014 is still going strong with almost 100k and never had a single mechanical issue with it. I bought it with 58 miles on it.
Hi Dave, i came across your channel 2 weeks ago and really enjoy your car reviews. i had a question, whats that stuff all over the engine bay. thanks and keep up the awesome videos.
Just bought one of these used. The 2.4L variant is definitely got a little more kick but still leaves room for improvement and is certainly a downgrade from my 2005 Hyundai Tuscon's V6 which was a monster at times, the engine is as loud as most Nissans, and it is a little small in terms of cargo space but for a budget car it ain't a bad deal. If you find one going for more than $14k in the used car market you're gonna get ripped off go for deals less than 12k as I got mine for just under 11. The headlights not being able to shut off when turning your car off is incredibly annoying. An issue that wasn't present in the Hyundai but like the Hyundai it still has the good old key ignition which is what I'm use to compared to push starts. As for reliability watch out but since the car is only 5 years old so far parts shouldn't be hard to find. Overall a good car for those on a budget but if you REALLY want a good SUV get one from Honda or Toyota. Both may be expensive to insure (They are a magnet for car thieves) but will last years longer than the Outlander.
I have always liked the "shark nose" look they have, and shopped one when I bought our Cherokee Trailhawk. The seat heater switches and rear view camera look like after thoughts, as does the ignition switch block off plate on the steering column for those models with push button start. Tinny sound to the doors, and cheap looking overall. This all wouldn't be too bad to take if the price was really low, but it's not really as cheap as it should be given the quality of it. Good AWD system, overall look, sound system, and nice paint color though.
Such a shame you weren't able to test the new 2.4L engine for 2015. You'd think Mitsu would want you to test the more powerful engine that's available this year.
The 2.4 liter engine will give you the pop you need. Anyway I watched your off road review as well and she did good.
Can you you install a Turbo on this car? I read that it is the same Evo engine. I looking at this car In stick for a daily.
who's the new guy with glasses and what did you do with Dave!!? - good review
Paul Sumner my eyes are getting worse as I age :-)
Any chips out there to make the engine pop a little more?
Don't listen to the glasses comment Dave! They look great!
There is a 2,4L that produces 168HP 167lb ft torque.
dennisscipio Yep he totally missed that point...
Any idea when the 2016 Outlander model year is supposed to hit the dealerships?
In July.
Hey Dave if you want to try out 1 of the 2015 Mitsubishi outlander sport 2.4 GT let me know I'm In Eugene . BTW 20 horse makes a big improvement . Along with a power drivers seat .
dave moff Thank you, Dave.
Everyman Driver Car Reviews I just took mine on it's first long road test . Eugene to Crater lake and back got 29.9 mpg on the highway with the 2.4 liter . BTW Dave really enjoy your reviews .
I still think this and the Escape are the best looking in their class.
These Mitsubishi's are really cheap however and don't have the weak ass appearance that comes with a Forester or CR-V.
58 seconds. What's up with the splatter on the engine?
you look better without glasses...just saying:)
Meh, when will the Mitsubishi evolution 11 come out?
Constantine Joseph Never, Evo X is last of the Evo's as I think the Lancer lineup as a whole. Maybe, down the road it'll come back as a hybrid, but not sure. I just hope their doing what Mazda did with the MazdaSpeed3, take it off the market for awhile, then come back.
But the WRX STi is lonely and needs his arch rival to spur it forward.
I cannot envision a motor world without these two speed beauties
DazdnCofuzd Never say never...you have no idea what the future will hold.
It's a good looking vehicle, but as he stated it's lacking in some departments. More hp would be nice, little more leg room, and maybe better seats would go a long way. Also, more options to open trunk area, but it's not a bad vehicle overall. O, btw, Dave, if your going to show the engine, make sure it's cleaned up first :)
DazdnCofuzd You know why the engine is so dirty, right? :-)
DazdnCofuzd They do have an optional 2.4 liter...and if bigger is what people need there is the Outlander 7 passenger.
I just don't like the way it feels on the freeway at night
i like suv
what a huge woofer..
김대욱 That's what she said.
Just shut the doors Mitsu.
