Here's an idea I've had. With an mrad ffp scope that has a horus reticle, such as the arken scopes. Zero it for say barnes 130 grain ttsx, and use the mil holdovers in the reticle for heavier bullets, such as 150, 180, 200. I haven't tried it yet, but with a mil scope that has mils and half mils one could probably figure out where to hold over with multiple bullet weights. Then when you make a dope card just document what your mil hold is at 100

Save your brass and/or buy some 300 win mag brass and a press kit. You can save a lot of $$ that way.
I've been eying that rifle, and the vanguard outfitter in 300 win mag. I think if I was to go to a 300 wby mag, Id spend the extra $$ and get a mark v, maybe the Remi Warren live wild rifle

Ya I think the stock is much better on this model than the live wild. Mark v action is better tho

@ExplorersWorkbench That was my thought also, better stock vs better action

Hey got a question I am thinking about getting the rifle you are shooting in 300 win mag and I’m 14 yrs at 140 pounds and I’m shooting 270 really easily do you think that I could shoot this without creating a flinch because I really want something that would knock down an elk or moose in the future.

If you add a good muzzle brake like the little fat bastard, recoil will be no problem at all. With out a brake the recoil is pretty stout in this light weight rifle. Manageable but just depends if you are recoil sensitive or not.

Your 270 will kill elk and moose.

No offense, but why in the Hill didn't you get the 257 Weatherby in the Talon??????? The 257 makes the 300-win mag look like a 30-30. No comparison. I have the Talon in 257. Mark 5 Deluxe 257, next one will be 30-378 Weatherby for big bears and moose and bison long distance. Roy Weatherby's rifle was a 257. He killed Elephant Rhino, Hippo, Giraffe etc. etc. Every Animal I've shot dropped like the hand of God touched it. Never #1 step, just hit, flop, dead. The 257 Weatherby is kind of an open secret. You have to own one to understand. I shot a deer at 200 yards hit him dead center between his front legs, he flipped head over heels and lay in a twisted mess. I was dumbfounded, mouth hanging open surprised. I had a 300-win mag, too much recoil and bruised my shoulder shooting the hot stuff. Sold it. A 300-win mag comes straight back at you. Like a 45 acp does. If you've ever shot a 45 acp you know the thump. I much prefer a 30-06 over a 300-win mag. You can do a lot more with a 30-06 as far as loads and bullets too. Your piggy bank ever gets full again, you buy a 257 Weatherby. You'll never own or shoot a better rifle you can go very long, and it will kill about anything that walks Ron Spomer killed the record black bear with his. Still might be the record big black. 300-win mag is mostly hype. Not many use them anymore. They are finicky and after they heat up, they start walking the paper. If you're serious about accuracy and going long. I'd sell that and get a 257. Ask around. Peace.

Haven't heard much about the 257. I prefer a heavier grain for elk. I'm sure the 257 could do fine, but not much room for error with the smaller load. Will look into it though. With this muzzle brake I could shoot it all day if it wasn't so expensive. The recoil isn't bad at all.

@@ExplorersWorkbench Trust me if a 257 Weatherby can kill an elephant or #3000 lb. hippo with one shot I feel pretty sure it'll kill a big ole elk. People shoot Moose and brown bears with them so, maybe just maybe it'll work, I dunno though. The Yaquis shoot Walrus with a 30-30 rifle all the time and they weigh in over 5000 lbs. Don't get caught up in the it's too small game. Fred Bear killed one of the largest brown bears in the record books with a recurve bow and arrow 125 fpe/ In todays world it's all about bigger and bigger and bigger. And a 30-30 will kill anything on earth. Been doing the gun thing from 6-64. Best rifle ever made is the 257 Weatherby. Flattest, hardest, Deadliest rifle out there. Check the bullet drop at 400 yards and do energy. Then borrow one and shoot it. No muzzle brake required. Yes, I'm a fan boy. But I've owned almost every caliber there is. between my sons and my wife we've owned about every caliber made . And we all agree the 257 is the shytes. Or you can be like me and go through about 40 of them ,before you realize the 375 hurts and the 50 Beowulf is to big. Peace.

@@ExplorersWorkbench You can always get ammo for a Weatherby. Not many people shoot Weatherby rounds. They used to be a Rich man's gun. Still are unless you think 2-3 thousand is not bad. The one I'm getting next is the 30-378 Wby it's a flat shooting S.O.B. and it literally hits like the hand of God. Kept the longest shot record for 40 years in a row. But the gun is 3k and a box of 20 rounds is $100-130 a box. But as in any round you can reload for any of them. the 257 is $49 to 100. If you directly from Wby. They have other brands that are cheaper made by federal etc. I only shoot 100 grainers from Wby. in mine. That's what they are scoped for. From polar bears to deer you're set with a 257. You can even ground hog hunt with them if you want. But they just Poof when hit. A zillion pieces going a hundred directions. You want to go long either of them is 100% ready, willing, and able. You can get the 257 in the Vanguards Weatherby. From $800-to 2k I just bought a Talon from Sportsman Warehouse for $1300 after tax. Being trying to get it for over a year. Everytime it came up next day sold out. Did the same thing this time. Except I didn't wait a day, I bought it as soon as I saw it Available. My suggestion to you is buy the Talon just the stock alone is like $700-800. It's got the twisted barrel ,Brake, cero-coat etc. It's a hell of a deal for that price. I think. Most bang for your money. You can look at them and price different ones 30-378 is on there too. $$$$$$$$$$$ Pricey, but actually cheaper than any FFl. You'll never go wrong with that Talon though. Peace Brother. Holler back you look through them. That Talon will be here this week, can't wait.
