  • In this video I go through some simple tips which will help instantly improve your balance whilst stand up paddle boarding. This is one of the most common issues raised by beginners and even if you are a more experienced paddle boarder you may learn a few pointers from watching this video 🏄🏼‍♂️
    10 balance tips are:
    - Buy the correct board
    - Inflate your SUP to the correct psi
    - Choose suitable conditions
    - Correct positioning
    - Wide base of support (stance)
    - Low centre of gravity
    - Get used to the 'wobble' on your SUP
    - Put your paddle in the water to regain balance
    - Dont be scared of falling in
    - Have fun, stay young!
    Ultimately, your balance will improve over time with practise! 🙌🏼
    If you have any other tips put them in the comments!

    Great video, much appreciated dude, only had my third outing this weekend, Westgate Bay, pretty calm.....fell in a lot, got my foot caught in the luggage bungie, was prepared, had life vest on ! My paddle is classed as my third leg, oddly enough I'm right handed, paddle better with left side but struggle with balance paddling with my right side......the only negative ive seen recently on the sea is very few wearing any type of flotation device.
    I'm an open water advanced scuba diver, if people won't wear life jackets at least wear a shorty wetsuit for the buoyancy 😁

    • @MorewithMat
      @MorewithMat  Před 11 měsíci +2

      Thanks for the feedback glad it was helpful! Nice never paddled around there but heard good things! Oh no never good, sounds like you had it under control though! I think everyone has a 'preferred' side to paddle, a bit of practice will bring the other side up to speed! Yes not ideal (and I have been guilty of that as well). Wetsuits definitely aid this, but I guess people think that because they have an inflatable attached to them they do not need it (although this could potentially fail with a puncture or you can become detached). Guess its an ongoing debate that will go on forever 🏄🏼‍♂️

    I bought my first SUP a couple of months ago after having hired one, as a trial last year.
    So far, I have only used it in the sea. OK, it limits how often you use it because of waves, swell etc but depth of water and visibility aren't really problems. if you fall in water 20 feet deep, 40 ft or whatever, you won't get hurt. A friend has recently tried inland boarding and he was concerned, the water is so dirty, silty probably a better term and the depth is not known either .. there could be anything under the water to trap you / puncture the board. Maybe OK when you are very experienced and are 99.9% certain you won't fall it, but for a beginner, shallow river water might have unknown dangers.
    Regards from Whitley Bay

    • @MorewithMat
      @MorewithMat  Před rokem +4

      Nice sounds like you’re in for a fun summer! Yes rivers do pose more risk beneath but on the sea you have to think about tide/wind more. Slow flowing river should not be too much of a risk. Happy paddling! 🙌🏼🏄🏼‍♂️

      Thanks mate appreciate that! 🙌🏼 Nice sounds like you’re in for a fun summer! It’s completely down to the individual tbh I use a 5/3 wetsuit for winter and 3/2 or no wetsuit in the summer! My advice is test it out on a warmish day somewhere where you can be back at your car within a few minutes so if you do get cold you can warm yourself up quick enough, and take it from there 🙌🏼

  • @dlsspy
    @dlsspy Před 9 měsíci +1

    A wider stance provides more leverage to make shifting a bit to the side become listing more easily. I’m usually in the ocean on my 9’x26” board with my feet fairly close together. I’d say no more than 1/3 the width is the most stable.
    People who try my board with a wide stance never actually make it upright. If you’re ever in Maui, you can give it a go, though. :)

    • @MorewithMat
      @MorewithMat  Před 9 měsíci +1
