    Excellent vid! Tips are right on the money. People give me crap for how "hard" I work to keep my lawn beautiful. I just laugh and tell them none of this is hard work. It's just about getting the details down (like sharpening your mower blades). It's the little things that take your lawn to the next level!

    • @LawnTips
      @LawnTips  Před 7 lety +3

      Thanks mate! Some people don't understand it takes a lot of work to look after grass. Even when people make comments about me working on a golfcourse, "you just mow grass all day don't you?" It's so much more involved! It's always fun and rewarding though putting effort into your lawn, cause you see the results!

    • @mikenotta7079
      @mikenotta7079 Před 4 lety

      If you are mowing often enough it will not contribute to thatch. However, in spring the grass grows a lot faster and you might need to bag for a bit of the start of the growing season.

    Hey, I have just completely dug up and levelled my backyard. I live on the Mornington Peninsula and my soil is fairly gritty, light grey loam over clay. What type of lawn would you recommend which would tolerate children and pet traffic?

    • @LawnTips
      @LawnTips  Před 6 lety +1

      Troy hey mate! That’s in Melbourne right? If you have pets either kikuyu or couch but they do go brown in the winter. Otherwise I would recommend tall fescue. Goes really well in Melbourne. I know quite a few people that have tall fescue in Melbourne and they love it.
      Will be alright with Pets. Will get general wear and tear but any grass will. Only thing is it’s not self-repairing.

    Yo mate, what up. I'm really liking your vids, they're really well done, keep it up.
    Got a question about tips 3 & 4. If you're using a pre emergent twice a year (spring and autumn), when do you suggest to do a lawn renovation?
    Do ya kind of have to bite the bullet with the weeds and just skip a pre emergent dose somewhere or is there something I'm missing?
    Cheers mate.

    • @LawnTips
      @LawnTips  Před 6 lety

      Hey mate, thanks!
      So if you are planning to do a Reno, you skip that round of pre-emergent.
      If you aren’t seeding and just doing a Reno with a core, scarify and top dress you can still apply pre-emergent.
      But yeah as you say you have to bite the bullet with the weeds and attack them later!

    • @mattferrier9466
      @mattferrier9466 Před 6 lety +1

      Legend, thanks for the clarification.
      So if you had a lawn that was a bit of a bitza (60% kikuyu, 20% rye and 20% summer grass / crows foot / winter grass / other crap) how would you propose to tackle it?
      I was thinking Barricade in autumn to suppress the winter grass, barricade in spring to suppress the summer grass and see if the kikuyu can thicken up a bit more?
      I would like to oversow some kikuyu into the areas where it hasn't made it to yet, but i don't know if I should do this before or after tackling the weeds...
      I also imagine I would have to do this in spring to give it the whole warm season to establish?
      Thanks again for your time and effort mate, so much good info in your vids.

    • @LawnTips
      @LawnTips  Před 6 lety

      No worries!
      Yeah you would have to do an oversow in the spring so the kikuyu get a good chance to grow.
      Yeah barricade in autumn to get rid of the wintergrass, then I reckon do a renovation in spring and seed and don’t apply the barricade.
      If you get anything like summergrass you can hit it with other herbicides once the seed matures a bit. As for Rye you could spray that out as well!
      If you want to talk a bit more send me a message on Facebook and we can chat out a plan of attack 👍🏽
