How much for a house in Auckland?

- The median house price in Auckland is now $555,000 but there are some that cost well over that figure.
So what can prospective house buyers in the super city expect to pay?
As Auckland's population continues to grow and the supply of available homes depleting, there seems to be no end in sight for the rise of prices.
Our reporter Tony Ng spent a day with Auckland real estate agents to see how much cash you need to splash in order to obtain a home in the country's biggest city.
it look like living in nz is shit not only is the weather crap, but the house prices also it's not hard to
see why kiwis leave nz.
They don't leave, because Australian houses are even more expensive. Moving beyond Australia requires a major change of scene.
the average Auckland dwelling now costs $931,000, compared to $913,000 in Sydney. So since this TV article aired there has been rampant house inflation. Auckland doesn't have the same housing density as Sydney. Part of the issue is that investors are buying up the cheaper properties in Auckland and first time buyers are being priced out by the inflation. Now first time buyers are looking toward Hamilton , Tauranga , Whangarei or postponing getting on the ladder.
Wow, the house that sold for 2,3 mil looks ugly. Everything in it looks really old and the carpets are hideous. It really just must be the location that drove the price way up because there's nothing likable about that house as far as I could see.

Auckland alone represents 36% of the NZ economy. So if you want to work, you do not have much choice in some jobs. That is where the prices come from.
(14 Byron Ave) 1955, one owner from new - you can tell.
It's next to the Bowling Club, and is 5 mins walk to anywhere in Takapuna, Spencer on Byron is across the road, and most of the street is offices. 845m, flat land, prime for redevelopment.
Agenda 21 in every where
Property is worth 3.25 mil now

genius
I rather see the crown give the land back that the abuse and crime rate stop
Same thing happening in Ozz , Chinese out bidding everyone else, So when ever u go shopping see a item made in China, leave it there. Basically is rubbish and just starve them of money,
Somebody should tell those rich Chinese investors that they are being scammed, that there will be no profit for them as no one will be able to pay more than what they've paid for it. It's true that most Chinese people have no idea what local values actually are, it's easy for taxi drivers to scam a Chinese tourist into paying hundreds of bucks for one or two miles. The only solution is this: If you see a house rented out for more than 30% of the median income, do not rent it, do not buy it, let these greedy assholes sit on their properties until they lose value. It's because some foreigner spent millions on a house, every property owner now expects to sell their own property at the same price or higher. As if they were forced to demand ridiculous prices. But it is in fact their greed that drives the prices. They'll be telling you that there is a huge demand and little supply and try to justify things with saying that there are people who still pay the rent, ignoring that some of those people are spending way above 50% some maybe even 80 % of what they earn on rent. But they give a fuck. They kid themselves into thinking that they are some benevolent generous philantrophs solely because they are "generous" enough to let someone rent or buy their property. What you earn is not meant for you to spend things for yourself, what you earn is meant to land in their pockets, and you are expected to kiss their feet, as they are granting you the chance to live in their shitty houses.
@@maythesciencebewithyou first, it is your government that allow us to purchase large amount of properties, so don't blame us. Second, in the end of day, there will be other Chinese that willing to pay higher price for the Chinese that bought the properties in the first place, we don't care about the market, we are the market.
Could you replace the stairs with a ramp? I just find them safer :)
I'd rather live in a van down by the river!
manicmode I’ve lived in Auckland. The houses aren’t very nice. They are behind the times. Many have no means of heating and double glazing uncommon. Auckland is very humid in the summer, damp in the winter and the inside of the homes become damp and cold. You can have heat pumps installed. Many of the homes have open fires as their only means of heating. R3minds me of England in the 50s when I was growing up. Glad to now live in England again in a cosy centrally heated house
+cherry rotella Auckland is not really a friendly place, lots of judgemental superficial narcissists here, and not just the millenials, but then again, what can you do
Government needs to build more houses and apartments so can house prices can come down a bit
1million for that? Dang that's crazy.
It’s NZD, not USD
In the us you could get a house with 6+ bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, a huge kitchen, an enormous balcony, a yard as big as a golf course, a ten car garage and a wreck room for less than 1,000,000. But you cannot deny how nice NZ is.
+medr jake yea in some undesirable place in central america, the situation is much worse in Manhattan so consider NZ as lucky
and you can get just about any car you want in NZ haha
+jakey boy But those towns that have those type of houses are in undesirable places in the Midwest and the South. You can't find that in any Southern California city/suburb, in the NYC tri-state area, in Hawai'i, and in most large cities of the U.S. In my Los Feliz district in L.A., all homes are in the $1million range starting, with 2-bedroom/1-bathroom built in the 1930s/1940s! The 6+ bedrooms you speak of in L.A. would be in the $10million price range. But I know you're being sarcastic, especially with the 10-car garage. LOL
Auckland is comparable to Seattle, but not LA. I mean c'mon Look were Auckland is compared to LA.Since I live in the Seattle area (which is not cheap by American standards) and way more comparable than LA. I can tell you that Aukland is about $100,000 more expensive for median home buying. Plus US homes tend to have more square footage.
Definitely not in Cali or NY
I thought we were bad in toronto with bidding wars for homes but u guys are killing it !!! auctioning homes that's boss.....
ram dat
ya don't auction homes in Toronto?
I have travelled and experienced life in many countries throughout the world. Glad I did because amoung other things, it served to remind me of how beautiful New Zealand is and how fortunate I am to be a part of it.
shameless call those sheds a house, all's just a fuckin' profit.. also a carpet in the toilette, tasteful? really? (facepalm)
hahahahaha classy
I agree all tho I am a new zealand er and I live in new zealand
Auckland is really a small city in paradise - it is expected that prices are what they are - there is a shortage of housing for those who want to live in the city or suburbs nearby. really, the answer is to live elsewhere and pay less. who says that you have to live where it's expensive - that's like saying that you HAVE to live in Manhatten - i'm sure that you pay well into the millions to live there - so do people complain about the house prices there?
Nooo waaayyyyy! I love my country but that...is...absurd!!! (:o - Kiwi living in Los Angeles.
Thats the same in Los Angeles California. Its ridiculous!!!
Wow! the median price is $622,000 now. And look what you get.. Housing shortage or affordability shortage? Auckland is a beautiful city but thats a lot of money for so little. I also see that consumer prices are expensive . What is driving all of this? Can't be just immigration policy.
Now about $ 830,000 + In Auckland
"Standard bathroom but it's always nice to have good light so we have here, a never before seen innovation called a window." Try Waiheke Island- a million will get you an empty chicken coop!
Nice home
i also feel that if you can buy a home her live in it or rent it to NZ people that could use a home
Back then a mill will go along way
Value vs US dollar?
Been looking at cAnada houses and a million $ there can buy you like a playboy mansion house haha. How can we buy houses here?
Absolutely rediculous as is rents even in Auckland
Ok, i think New Zealand needs to focus on its real issue when it comes to Real estate.
Its not "foreign buyers" in general that they should be worried about
Based on the
chinese bank-chinese buyer situation, its clear that china is still trying to corner the real estate market in NZ, they should be banning chinese banks from providing loans in order to stop chinese sent buyers from purchasing them at bargain rates.
I'm a chinese, but i'm an honest person, unlike these china-chinese
shitty electric heating. fuck that
2.5 million house subdivided total lots sold for $10million
In Ireland its the same homeless are growing
Trying to run an economy on agricultural exports from an isolated island.
Surprise, it does not work.
+Bumble Bee NZ is a lot more than diary giant Fonterra.
555k... so cheap is this the 90s or something... wait it's 2013
That's a lot of money
oh wow i can buy a beautiful lifestyle home in the middle of the north island for half the price. Yep its foreigners thats pushed the prices up and nz citizens are left to struggle or becomes homeless.
that's 555k Nzd right
ha ha and the new Zealand central bank just cut interest rates, well i guess house prices will be going even higher
Man,
And they wonder why alot of kiwis came abroad to australia
You can get a house here,
Wayyyyyyy better than those shown on this vid for half the amount there
Whats been an issuse for years, and will continue to be so is the average persons wage..it isnt sufficient to accomodate the cost of living for starters let alone even think of purchasing a house
Its ridiculous,
I actualy went back in 2012 after a 7yr hiatus here in melbourne to be with family,
Only to stay 6months due to the economic bs nz still had
I love my family,
But Damnnnnn...working 2 jobs again barely making it week to week was depressing and frustrating so i came back to melbourne
Forget about the wages,
The infrastructure,
More cars on the road with the population growing,
Still very little improvement with the roads to accomodate
The health system,
What a joke
And the list goes on......
Until the govt pulls their finger outta their assholes,
For a country that is supposed to be ahead and civilised......
is going nowhere!!!
Had it been,
Progressing in the right direction...i wouldnt be here
PERIOD!!!!!!
Come on nz,
Wake the fuck up 😡😡😡
I love Takapuna no way to buy a house in Auckland.
location! means more money
Auckland expensiveBrisbane cheaper.Auckland 3beds, 1bath, 1garage - House cost around $475,000 (yet minimum wage $12 per hour) it's impossible to pay rent, or own a house.Brisbane 4beds, 2baths, 2garage - House cost around $350,000 (minimum wage at $20 per hour) live is easier, plus cheaper groceries
Welcome to New Zealand, the most expensive and most friendly banana republic in the world

Geee that explains why alot of kiwis are coming over to live in Fiji..for a million dollars you'll own a great big house with a Suv throw in an small boat with engine..
anyone watching this in 2018?
How bout 2019?
To much immgrants and overseas investors gutless nz groverment now they made a huge housing shortage they taking forever to fix it any immgrants or overseas buyers should have to live in nz for 5 years before they can buy one house that's fair your only a kiwi new Zealander if you have a nz birth certificate as its says on that certificate where we are born and who we are I'm sick of all the brain washing
What the heck! ridiculously priced
Lol sold 475k 2021 sold 1.34mil
The rich are getting richer. More and more homeless everyday. You see it here in America and I bet you see it in Auckland too !
Kick them out.
Absolutely ridiculous!!!
If the laws was fair that non new Zealanders not born in nz hospitals cant buy a house tell they have lived in nz for 5 years and can only buy one house we wouldn't have a housing shortage mass immgrant numbers and overseas buyers made the housing crisis just the truth even with a pr visa should be banned nz should be for the born kiwis with nz birth certificates only

New Zealand has become a second home for china thanks to overseas buyers
And a second home to Indians
@Cheetah Red yeah, the mainland Chinese hate their own country cos they've run out of places to publicly defecate back home. Now they're going international.
Ugly houses too expensive.
Those houses are so outdated lol serious renovation is needed looks so 1950s gross

2021 and its now worse
Wow!! So cheap compared to Vancouver!! New Zealand, watch your money laundering, or you'll be dead like us.
haha. The kiwi couple who won that bid probably sold their last property with some good profit.
