Christchurch East by-election not a done deal
Christchurch East is widely seen as a safe Labour seat, but the outcome may be less certain than expected.
Advance voting has already begun in the by-election for Christchurch East - the seat Labour's Lianne Dalziel left to successfully contest the Christchurch mayoralty.
But despite Dalziel winning the seat in the 2011 General Election, National gained thousands more party votes than Labour - testimony to the popularity of Dalziel over her party.
So how might the cards fall this time around, with a new Labour candidate, new Labour leader, and dissatisfaction with the earthquake rebuild?
Our reporter Torben Akel talked with the candidates, and looked at the factors that may affect this by-election's outcome.
