Jack Betts: My name is Jack Betts and I’m playing Mickey.
Movie Clip: They don’t dare take your seat. Uh, uh, look at that collar. Oh, I should’ve cut your eyebrows.
Jack Betts: And I’m very fortunate to have Barbara Bain playing my wife, and we’re having a ball because I know Barbara Bain from the Actor’s Studio.
Title: Years countdown back to 1967
Jack Betts: My agent out here called me and said, “There’s an Italian director who’s looking for someone to star in three (3) Western films in Italy.” The Italian director, he said to me, “Do you ride a horse?” And I said, “Oh my gosh, of course, I’ve been an equestrian for a long time.” I’d never been on a horse in my life. He said, “Do you shoot the gun?” And I said, “Yes, as a matter of fact, I won a sharp-shooting prize about three weeks ago.” I never had a gun in my hand in my life. He said, “Can you be in Rome in three (3) weeks at Cinecittá?” And I said, “Si, si, si.” And I had to change my name when I went there. I was Hunt Powers for seven (7) years. Living in Rome. And had a ball. Had the time of my life.
On set: You want me to look at her or not. Not at the top. Just like, you’re happy.
Jack Betts: Rosemary (Rodriguez), who’s just so wonderful to work with, wow, it’s a joy.
Movie Clip: Now if you had only taken that job with my father, huh? I wanted to be a teacher. I wanted to be an educator.
Jack Betts: Elia Kazan said. “It starts with a good script.” And when I read the script, I said to myself, “Yes, I’d like to do this.” Because it really has something to say. It’s very timely. And the attitude of everybody on this set is absolutely wonderful. We’re all very fortunate to have that. We really are.
